Hello! To anyone who's reading this post, my name is Farrel Hakim.

I'm 16 and as you may have guessed, still in high school (based in New York). I'm currently reading Unscripted and How to Win Friends and Influence People -- always trying to stay ahead of my fellow peers. I'd like to think myself as mature, but hey, I'm 16.. I slip up at times.

I found out about this forum-site through a friend of mine who have read and reccomended Unscripted and Millionaire Fastlane to me (I chose to read unscripted first for no apparent reason) a couple of months ago and I've been searching for value and happiness ever since. Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of entrepreneurship is all I'm about these days because of the books I've started to read. Although, you may be concerned and ask yourself, "If this boy found the forum months ago, why did he only recently post?" Simple answer is... I was afraid. I had fear of judgement, but now I want the real truth. I want to start making mistakes now so I can be financially free in the future. I want to start now.

I guess my first question to people who are successful and have used this medium to give and take information is: How do I get started? I want to start making money, so what do I do?

I'm very eager to come out of my comfort zone, I want to push myself further and I want to feel, look, and BE successful. Success to me is more than money, more than what people perceive me as in school or in the vast world. Rather, success to me is happiness --- continuous happiness. I want to be free, liberated from the confines of normal scripted lifestyles and social normalcies. I want to be me-- to be unique and to be powerful as myself. I want to (this might be very insignificant to you) actually BE BUSY instead of pretending and making girls think I'm busy.

Some things about me: My TRUE passion is to help others. I love the little tingly feelings it induces and the smiles on their faces, or even the results they get. One of the mediums I use to help others is fitness (another huge passion of mine), I'm not "big" myself and I'm still not content as to my shape and my results, but I'm getting there. I usually help my friends out by giving them advice I've researched and experienced since I'm not a certified expert, I look to other experts as a gateway to my own results and regurgitate information in digestible bites for others to understand. This was my main attraction of my week, banging it out at the gym and helping out my friends.

But it was consuming my (family's) financial situation (my family and I being low-middle class) and also my individual time since I wasn't earning money. I couldn't start charging them because I can't force them to pay me--- Im their friend, I tried it for only $10 a month which is super cheap, but no one was willing to pay. So how do I start a business venture, small at first, and especially with the smallest amount of expenses possible?

Lastly -- as I've said before, I want to become an entrepreneur and I know that going to college is against the unscripted way, but my parents would like me to unless I show them I can make money without it. I'm extremely eager to learn and listen, most importantly, act, how and where do I find a mentor? What should I look out for as to the dangers of scams and paid mentoring? (like someone agrees to give me their knowledge 1 on 1 for a fee?)

Thank you for your most valuable time. All advice are welcome.

Hi Farrel, thank you for sharing your thoughts about your plan to be an entrepreneur. I admire your passion and willingness to learn everything to be a successful entrepreneur.

You have all the ideas how to start equipping yourself however being an entrepreneur requires a lot of time and hard work.

What I can advise you is to study and understand the following:
1. Marketing - Basic 4Ps and 7Ps of Marketing (also called as Marketing Mix) will help you identify the first phase of implementing your business plans. This will help you a lot on what product/service you want to sell, when to sell, how much are you selling, where to sell, etc.
2. Passion - Now that you've identified your 4Ps/7Ps, evaluate your passion. If you're passion is with arts and being creative then be an entrepreneur that relates to your passion. It would be easy for you to work on something you really like to do.
3. A/B Testing - This is what most of the online/digital marketing/advertisers do. Always do trial and errors to see what works and what's not. Of course, it's not always gonna work so you have to keep trying something different to make it work.
4. Time and Maturity - Don't rush. It's never a race. Take time on understanding your product/service, the market trend, online channels and social media, your target markets, etc. It's not gonna all happen in one day. Experience is the key.
5. Education - It will help you. Get a degree. It's not going to hinder you being an entrepreneur. Get more knowledge. The smarter you are, the better you can apply it on your future business.

In general, there's no assurance of being a successful entrepreneur. It depends on how you define your own success. But few things to keep in mind is to always bring a smile, have fun, be positive, and never give up.

I hope this helps you.

I'd like to think myself as mature, but hey, I'm 16.. I slip up at times.

Glad to see you here so young. I'm new to the forum here myself, but it's gold... Pure gold. Be a sponge.

How do I get started? I want to start making money, so what do I do?

I think that's putting the cart before the horse. Firstly, what are you good at? What do you enjoy doing? How can you use what you know now to provide real valuable to others? There's tons of different ways to do this.

Being so young, you have so much time to figure out your "why", but from my experience in business, the way you start making money is having something that other people value (whether a product or service) and sell it to them.

I had fear of judgement, but now I want the real truth. I want to start making mistakes now so I can be financially free in the future. I want to start now.

Totally legitimate. I too worry (to an extent) about what people think of me, but listen... You're here and you're trying to better yourself. At the end of the day, the only people who will judge you when it comes to developing yourself are the people who don't try and develop themselves...

If people want to pass judgement on that, then that's their deal . I applaud your efforts.

Im their friend, I tried it for only $10 a month which is super cheap, but no one was willing to pay. So how do I start a business venture, small at first, and especially with the smallest amount of expenses possible?

There's a ton of different things you can do, but $10 IS super cheap. It all comes down to actually STARTING your business. It's not personal, but it's business... so, as far as friends go, if you're providing them a service that benefits them, then it's totally fine to charge them (because like I said, even $10 is really cheap.)

Spending your time without getting paid is a mistake, since we all know TIME IS MONEY.

I'm extremely eager to learn and listen, most importantly, act, how and where do I find a mentor? What should I look out for as to the dangers of scams and paid mentoring? (like someone agrees to give me their knowledge 1 on 1 for a fee?)

That's great to hear because you need to be. Just keep in mind that just because you think somebody's an expert doesn't mean you should believe everything they tell you. I just watched a Larry Ellison interview, and that's what he said... It's true. I think becoming an active member in this community FIRST and getting to know people here will help you build relationships with others that are where you wanna be.

Start with that because you will learn a hell of a lot without having to pay a dime (besides buying MJ's books)

There's well more than enough info and resources here to start your journey.

We're all hear to help and offer you wisdom, advice, and motivation. Cheers!

Hi! I would like to thank you for taking the time to read my slightly lengthy post and for your advice, this will definitely help me along the way to becoming a successful, free, entrepreneur. Also, regarding marketing and passion, I really love to talk and "mentor" others on what I've learned, and definitely listening to what others have learned and any advices given. I believe my primary goal is to have a business to customer type model where I sell my product, for example "coaching" others on life skills, etc. in a program, or maybe even fitness. I'm planning on creating a school club where like-minded people share out ideas and learn to be confident. Anyways, I'm rambling. All I wanted to say was thank you very much for your time and your advice, it's greatly appreciated and it's really given me motivation to really seek this out.

Wish you all the best, stay happy!

Thank you so much for your well needed encouragement and advice, honestly, a few hours on this forum have already skyrocketed my motivation and my perseverance to actually become something that I myself can look in the mirror and say "You've made it." And yea, you're definitely right about time and money. Do you have any recommendations of posts I should take a peek at?

Thank you so much for your time, best wishes to you. Stay happy!

Don't make money from your friends. Not because it's not ethical, I couldn't care less. It's because friends are bad customers. Making money from your friends is for people in pyramid schemes.

If you want to get paid for fitness..
*
Get some good shots of yourself looking fit

Post a local craigslist ad for your personal training services

Get some clients and put them on a recurring billing schedule

Film some sessions with them

Make a website

Put content on the web as you get better and better, showcasing yourself working with clients and building authority

Get too busy

Charge higher prices, sell courses to the people who aren't going to pay you $500 a session.
*

Along the way you'll learn copywriting from writing your ads, sales from meeting with your clients, client management as you get more clients, marketing when your ads don't work as well as they could, design when you need to make the creative for your ads, taxes as you start to make some more money, management when you get employees to help you, etc. You'll learn the 10,000 things that a real entrepreneur knows about business by getting your hands dirty and just starting. It's probably not even a very good business idea as so many other people do it. But you'll become much more lethal when it comes time to build your app idea that you have in February of 2022 or whatever. You see my point? Just start.

Everyone "wants to help people" because it's a placeholder that makes you feel good. My girlfriend used to say the same thing until I called her out on it. Wanting to help people is not a career path just like how putting "brush your teeth" doesn't really belong on a to-do list.

Also, forget what your parents think. Do they have the lifestyle you aspire for? Then that's all you need to ask. When my parents and extended family tried to shame me into listening to their advice I would look them in the eyes and say "Did it work out for you? I don't want your life". The conversation would always end there.

know that going to college is against the unscripted way

Not necessarily, it just isn't the right decision a lot of times. Culture makes it ALWAYS the right decision which is a big mistake.

Welcome aboard, impressive intro my friend.
