Hello everyone in this community. Currently, I work for one of the largest e-commerce companies in the linens industry. I have been there for 10 months and I'm doing most tasks a Vice President used to do. I do everything from digital marketing, to SEO and some basic programming/photoshop.

Today we broke records in sales and my work has helped restore a 35% gap in revenue YOY compared to when the old VP left. (I'm not VP I'm a regular guy who does most of the work the VP used to do) Prior to working for this company, I was a software engineer testing aircraft applications (a job which I hated). I have spent the bigger majority of the last two years learning about e-commerce and I overworked myself writing blog posts and trying to make it online. I jumped into all of this the day I paid my student loans with my old job as a software engineer. I quit my job with a couple thousand in the bank.

Currently, I'm doing okay in my company but is still a lot of work and they don't pay me much based on the results I have got so far. The President doesn't recognize what I have done and the effort I have put is one of those cases where I can stay a happy sheep or walk out the door. Anyway! I'm hoping to follow the advice of some of the people here and see if I can finally manage to create a source of income of around $200-$300 per day. I just want more time freedom.

I have failed massively in the past and have lost a few thousand in my journey but I will try one last time since I found this forum. You guys seem legit. I'm yet to read the books and I'm looking at the Gold and Notable threads on here.

Sounds like you're getting the shaft, while the owner is getting the sizzle! Ahh the benefits of being in control. (Not that I would not reward an employee who is killing it!)

These people had been dropping 40k on ads per month. 25-30k of which had been targeting a magento build specific for mobile. Full of bugs and hardly operational. I noticed right away when I tested the site and searched analytics for conversion rates.

Beyond that I did a lot to improve the SEO. Fixed years worth of 404's that had accumulated and recovered all accounts for services. When the VP left us he left us with nothing. Not even a password database. I made one for them.

Honesty this owner is not too smart. He will lose Amazing talent. We got 8 people on site. I will wait until we roll out a new website based on Magento 2.0 and probably go elsewhere if he still refuses to give me a decent salary.

Meanwhile I learn from you guys and share some of what I know where adecuate. I still got tons to learn I'm just hard working. I'm just happy to see this place growing again and the brand building stronger.

The great part of this is you know you have what it takes and you proved it by applying it within the owners company. Now just gotta do the same for yourself. I'm originally from Miami myself. PM me if you'd like to meet up - would love to hear more of your story.

Read threads by @Andy Black, take the actions he recommends, follow one of the many people doing the local/ecom lead gen hustle, and you'll probably be ok within 6 months

I've done it

That's really amazing what you have done in a short period of time. And you are really lucky to be there so close to the mistakes somebody make. I will be watching this thread.

I've done it

Recently I checked a podcast he was in. I know the power in building niche sites. Better google ad score. More targetted. Bigger conversions. The way he suggests to build a website for products and services for which people are searching for is brilliant. Intuitively I know all these things but sometimes I consume so much information I forget them. I will check out more stuff from him in the near future for sure.

Some interesting thought. Some legendary members here say they don't do SEO anymore due to the fact Google Shopping is the first thing to display when doing a search query on Google. These users prefer Amazon as a sales channel due to. Authenticity, prime shipping, more organic terms get ranked on top. I also found interesting how in the long run Adwords does better (overall) than Facebook does. I'm still trying to validate this for myself. Many people say many different things.

In regards to SEO. My experience is it counts hugely. Knowing the right set of keywords to target in any industry is invaluable. There is a lot of interesting content in this forum. I wish I found it sooner.

Sometimes I can be obsessive about things. When I take action. I take MASSIVE action. I pretty much spent 9 months consuming everything I could on the world of e-commerce. I used to go some 14-18 hours a day. I used a lot of what I learned back then to help the brand recover.

Now they're on track to much bigger growth but I will need to look deeper into automation or building a bigger team because it will be impossible to handle the load with the current team. I'm sure I will find good threads on automating the business here.

You're doing great job buddy!

For me it sounds like you already have all it what it takes to start offering your services for clients!

You should consider creating your own digital marketing campaign where you offer your services. (Different packages for pricing and services)

Either on your own or with help of freelancers, of course depending on can you take care of all the things by yourself and what you offer!

It easily brings you 500-1000/mo per client, if you can make things happen.

Take a look at Ruan Marinho on YouTube he has lots of valuable stuff about, how you can create campaigns and price them.

PS. I'm also into digital marketing, I think we could add value for each other. Let's connect?

All the best!

Welcome to the forum.

Sounds like you have a negotiation opportunity on your hands.

Try looking up youtube videos of Chris Voss - then negotiate a pay raise.

You don't have anything to lose.
  • If he fires you, you were leaving anyway.
  • If he pays you what you deserve, you have that much more to fund your fastlane journey.
Sounds like you've built an amazing skillset with proven results.

If you haven't done so already, I'd take advantage of the current access you have to the company files to get exact statistics on what you did to improve their results. For example...
  • I took their sales from $X to $XXXX
  • Fixed X number of 404 errors
  • Earned X backlinks
  • Wrote X blog posts
  • X Blog posts rose to page 1 on Google
  • Content marketing strategy grew our traffic from X to X individual visitors/month
  • etc.
That's the kind of data that will make it a piece of cake to land your next opportunity, whether it's getting hired in traditional employment or attracting freelance clients.

I have failed massively in the past and have lost a few thousand in my journey but I will try one last time since I found this forum. You guys seem legit. I'm yet to read the books and I'm looking at the Gold and Notable threads on here.
None of this sounds remotely like failure to me... from here, it looks like you're a beast at learning skills that make a real-world impact on the projects you undertake.

I fixed my resume already and wrote down some of the numbers. I had some places contact me in regards to employment opportunity in digital marketing/SEO and e-commerce. I still got more to learn where I am. Honestly, I can't take all the credit for everything. This company does outsource SEO and development tasks to other two great companies that have been very important to achieve some of the success we see. Part of what I have tried to do is build a culture where the teams communicate and work together to fix problems.

The thing is. If you are running so much traffic to a website which is barely functional how does that affect your Google rankings/customer satisfaction? So many metrics are slashed down. Including time on page and conversion rates. Killing that traffic on itself made a difference from 2xs to 7xs and spending 1/3rd the resources.

The other big impact had to do with Google shopping. Our media company reported some 600+ products which had been disapproved. Did I fix that? No. I just submitted a report and asked Google for help. I wrote a nice letter to them. Within 4 days they had fixed 90% of all issues that could be fixed. Since Google shopping results are now showing up first on google this also boosted visibility for the company. However, I did fix 3000+ broken URLs which took tons of work (over two weeks of consistent effort). I did not see any meaningful results until 4 months later when all of us started to see a spike in organic traffic and rankings.

And then I learned tons about growing brands and customer satisfaction. Treat customers like they are royalty and they will keep coming back. Our company no longer focuses on making profits but instead is all about providing the best service possible to meet the customer's needs at the best price possible. We don't believe in upselling instead we try to give our customers a coupon code so they can be happy at checkout.

I still want to see how new technology is going to change the game for us. Once we are actually able to target mobile devices I expect the number of leads to double or triple. We will be able to buy so much more inventory at auction at cheaper rates than desktop. Revenue should double or at least 1.5xs what it is now. I'm talking changes that will turn 30,000 visitors per month to 100,000+ in the span of 3-6 months after launch. A lot more business opportunity and growth if the staff can keep up with the demand and there is enough resources to actually fulfill that demand. Adding more products and targeting other sectors of the market may be needed to grow much more into the million visitors per month.

If then still the answer is "There is the door". I will have an awesome website to show my future employer and I will have gained tons of valuable skills/experience. I'm getting the bad end of the deal now but I don't even have two years of experience in the industry. Gotta do the dirty work. It could only get better with the results which are to come. I had to tell my boss some hard truths in order to motivate him to make so many of the changes we have made. Including the adoption of new technology.

I will consider this path but I would not go this route unless I build something for myself and I get all the results off of my own work. This brand had been there 10+ years without me. I just brought a new perspective after failing hardcore for 9 months.
