I have a question about Facebook that has been bugging me for a while now.
More specifically a business page selling to B2B customers.

Having had the pleasure of working for some great brands in the past, all have varying successes on Facebook. It seems that the Facebook business pages for B2B get the lowest engagement - and since there new algorithm change, its become a pay to play game.

I admit, I am not good with Facebook, I just can't fathom putting the effort in to make a post, just for it to end up in the twighlight zone. However, I do anyway because "its what everyone else does".
It really doesn't make sense to me.
The experts tell me that I should use it but most of them sell courses - so I am always sceptical of their advice.

So, what I would like to know is:
A) Does Facebook work for B2B?
B) How the f**k do I do it?

I thank you in advance for the assistance.

Facebook = Arguments & Advertisements

I can't delete it entirely, I use it for work although the personal aspect of it is dead to me.

Quick Hack:
1) I went and joined a shit ton of groups, ranging from professional business groups, real estate, local marketplace groups, local neighborhood watch (very good for real estate scouting) groups, etc. Maybe more than 30 groups. They have groups for everything

2) I started to ACTIVELY delete and unfollow any and everything that's not business or productivity related. Effectively manipulating Facebook's newsfeed to be a productivity feed. This includes anything related to politics, trump, hilary, election crap, friends and acquaintances that bitch, companies I "liked" back in 2008 when Facebook was different, etc. Unfollow it ALL.

Took a few weeks but it started to clean up my facebook feed. My feed is now a productivity tool that only shows messages and posts from groups that I find value in. New real estate deals, local neighborhood happenings (I dont watch local tv), business stuff, Networking, Freelance groups, etc.

Its become a tool for me now. When I go there instinctively to kill time, I end up getting motivated to do some work.

Not perfect though, Facebook still has an insidious way of somehow delivering toxic news and connecting me to Joe Schmoe in Idontcare, USA about his view on x, y and z.

This is for people who want to stay on Facebook, yet minimize their use as much as possible:

As long as you have a bit of self-control and can actually only use the tools for what you originally wanted (Facebook groups, messaging friends/"friends") I believe is ok to stay in, however the problem is many people will think "just five minutes on facebook" and will stay for hours watching random videos lol.

One thing I did was:

-Delete weak ties or people you haven't spoken in years.
-Use messenger app, not the Facebook app.
-Check it once every two days and then go into once per week when you get used to it.

Also I find nowadays Instagram is much more addictive than Facebook. Any thoughts on this?

Only using it for groups as well. Killed the news feed a couple of months ago, and it has been fantastic.

Thinking about quitting it for good though.

Spent way too much time on Facebook a couple of years ago. Couldn't stop looking at the damn news feed 117 times a day, and I wanted to take a break from it without deleting my account.

So to make myself unable to log in and force my self to stay away, I logged out on all my devices and made my girlfriend change my password to something only she knew, so I simply couldn't log in on either my computer or smartphone. Worked like a charm.

Hmm, not sure about that. I struggle with the same stuff as everyone here. Focus being one of them. To be honest, it shouldn't take me YEARS to write a book.

Well, in that case, I would recommend it.

It's kind of funny, it's written largely targeting people in corporate America or Academia and, in a way, teaches them to fight the Script to go further in their profession.

Because the Script tells you to get a 9-5 and 'work hard'. But, it also tells you to answer your emails ASAP, attend meetings, stay late, etc. To race the other rats.

Deep Work is an unscripted way of tackling a 9-5. Shut off your social media, limit your emails, etc. Don't race the rats. Take a different path.

Newport is a college professor. He 'should' be attending seminars and administration meetings. He 'should' be working well past closing time every day. That's what you're 'supposed' to do.

Instead, he works on what matters. He's published books and studies. Even as a grad student, he rarely worked past 5:30.

Many people who say he should be at 'the meeting' are behind him academically/professionally.

Lesson: There's no shame in a 9-5 / Corporate Career, if that's what you're happy with. At the end of the day though, you still want to go unscripted . The Script tells you to work longer for less. You don't have to be an entrepreneur to tell conventional wisdom to F off.

When my mom wondered why I wasn't her facebook friend anymore, I told her I deleted it. My dad was sitting on his chair in the background, and must have detected the slight tinge of pride and self-satisfaction in my voice. He's like "Congratulations, you're 32 and aren't spending your time like a teenage girl anymore. I'm so proud."

Just saying...

Guess I'm the early adopter here.

I've deleted Facebook from my minds-eye a couple years ago. I still have the accounts, but me visiting Facebook is like me going to the Mutual Fund retirement conference.

And if you want to help me out besides the ten dollars you spent on my book(s), visiting THE FORUM and contributing HERE over Facebook helps me tremendously.

Mark Zuckerberg don't give a sh*t about you.

I do. ;)

I have found FB to be quite useful to me. I only check it two or three times a day for a few minutes total. I have joined groups where people have similar businesses and goals that provide useful information.

Facebook is one of those "only if it makes me money" things for me. (along with Instagram & Twitter)

Otherwise I just never saw the point of social media.

I can't for the life of me understand how people actually get addicted to it.

99% of it is attention whoring and FAKE.

I guess I'd rather whore for attention face-to-face instead? lol

But really, the average person is glued to their phone and social media. And I really don't want to be average...so I don't do that.

Visit people. Call people. Say "Hi" and shake their hand!

Stop in to their office and leave a sample! If it's the morning bring them a coffee!

Or just be a tech zombie like everyone else...'cause somebody needs to see my FB ads!

After joining a business group a few months ago I think I've looked through my feed twice. Otherwise I just use it for my business page. Basically I go to Facebook and see if my picture has any notifications. If so I login. If it isn't the business group I log out. If it is I check it out.

For IG I've been unfollowing pages that don't provide value. I've gotten it down to mostly business and cars now.

For other areas I've turned off news notifications on my phone and deleted some of the apps. Too much negativity there.

It's been a process cutting out the useless crap and replacing it. Instead of listening to music walking to class I listen to podcasts like Andy Frisella's MFCEO.

One thing I've noticed is how bad people are with walking around with headphones in and staring at their phones. If I have to look at my phone it takes forever to do something because I keep looking up to watch where I'm going.

I do think people should use headphones less. Tonight I was walking to the gym and it was quite pleasant. Sun hadn't finished going down yet. It's been warmer recently. Birds singing. It was very relaxing and just nice feeling more connected to the world. As much as I like listening to music and podcasts, not hearing the sounds of the world cuts you off a bit.

If you're in the college party scene, FB is crucial.

Interesting, I thought FB was uncool for the younger set.

It seems that the Facebook business pages for B2B get the lowest engagement - and since there new algorithm change, its become a pay to play game.

I think this is what caused me to say "F*ck Facebook and F*ck Zuckerf*ck" -- my FB Business Page at one time had over 160,000 likes. I was so proud of that page and any content I shared there would get huge engagement, sometimes upward toward 100,000, comments, likes, shares, you name it.

When they changed their algorithm, now anything posted there is lucky to see 2,500. But FB has made damn clear that I see "BOOST THIS POST for only $5!"

F*ck them.

And just think, some people worked their butt off to build a huge FB fan following, only to have FB throttle it down and muzzle it.

Yes, even I get harsh reminders of The Commandment of Control.

Exactly! The paying can kill you.

I think that is why more people on FB have been trying to not 'pay' for marketing.
They turn to content marketing strategies, making tons of videos and content, but its also not free....in terms of time.

And that makes the marketing saturation even worse.

We have some folks who aren't supposed to advertise online.
I have MLM friends who use FB to do 'advertising'. Not paid ads. Just spamming the feed with regular posts.

When I ask them if any of their views or likes is going to return a single dime of profit, they just say, 'But we see our top MLM directors doing the social media thingy. Why can't I?'

I am becoming more convinced that I might have to cut out social media as a major means of marketing. Maybe it is contrarian. Maybe I am wrong. Or I have been taking to heart @Kak's threads too much:rofl:

At the end of the day, Facebook will still need a recurring source of revenue. They can't stay jacked on financing forever, thus the adjustment of algos to make you pay more! FB's revenue model just makes me sad...

Visit people. Call people. Say "Hi" and shake their hand!

Stop in to their office and leave a sample! If it's the morning bring them a coffee!

Or just be a tech zombie like everyone else...'cause somebody needs to see my FB ads!
Most of the time people are just window shopping on FB.

Even if Facebook can be a source of social proof that can make people buy stuff, can they get the social proof from somewhere else?

Or, are there better forms of social proof than a bunch of texts on FB?

Facebook doesn't always rule the social proof market, IMO.

It seems like everyday I'm trying to convince myself that social media is something necessary, but I'm finding fewer reasons to use it. Both for personal and business reasons. It's to the point where I don't have any social media app on my phone anymore and I don't miss it at all.

I only use FB for business related / advertising purposes but it's not going anywhere.

I was on board when it first came out, deleted all my stuff probably 10 years ago at least now. The honest reason being I just didn't have anything I thought was worth posting. haha.

Now FB has become the spot for older folks to bitch and complain and surf and play games, etc. basically the older folks have now become the drama queen teenager....mostly about politics and news stories. I suppose it's because they never got to experience social when they were young.

Younger people still have FB usually, but they are all about instagram now. Snapchat is still popular but not as much so anymore. I think we're prime for a new social network to come around soon for the younger generation which will eventually grow to become what snapchat and instagram have become.

With all that said, Facebook isn't going anywhere. Not with all the advertisers that will continue to spend money on there until it doesn't work anymore. To ignore Facebook would be to ignore the advertising tool it has become (from a biz standpoint).

I'm not addicted to FB, or any social media, so no real need to delete it.. yet.
I check FB once or twice a day, amounting to less than 10 mins total.

I do have a major problem with their page engagement algorithm though.
I still owe them almost $150 for ads, but f*ck em.

While I can easily pay it, I've decided not to, because I feel I was swindled.

Like being told at the door of a club that there's so much fun and dancing inside, once you pay this here cover charge.
All excited, you pay up and go in with a wide grin. You approach the first hottie and boogie down to your heart's content. You think, "wow! This is great."

You do the electric slide toward the next hottie, but out of the darkness, the bouncer blocks you.
He says "sorry Mr. Electric Slide McGee, but it'll be $5 per person you dance with from here on out. You're free to dance by yourself all you want, but almost no one will see you or join in."

This is exactly how I felt about one of my business pages in 2013. FB sold me on optimizing ads to get followers who would ENGAGE. I did just that, and the engagement was great for about 1-2 months, then they made that algo change. Suddenly, almost no one could see the posts anymore. A reach of <1% of my 22k people per post.

I had already paid over $1k for ads, but as that happened, I've been looking at the remaining balance sitting there, as a f*ck you to them.

Facebook is straight up evil. I've been using the "News Feed Eradicator" extension for over a year, which replaces your entire news feed with a motivational quote. I keep it for groups and to discover opportunities and hone my ideas from relevant communities. No sympathy for any "difficulties" they're having now.

What I did years back was literally just block everyone who isnt immediate family , now its basically a rolodex and a feed of hobbyist groups (well and advertisements I guess)

I don’t give a shit if Facebook could make me money. I’ll find a different way to make money than cutting Facebook in on my efforts.

None of my businesses currently mesh with Facebook for advertising anyway.

Basically describes my entire use of social media. Although I wouldn't explicitly say "if it makes me money" but more like, "does this hit my audience?" -- the big conundrum for most of us is this: If we're selling hot-dogs but hate visiting the ball-park, avoiding the ball-park could be bad for business.

I deleted the Facebook app off my phone yesterday. Mostly because I don’t use it anyway. Messenger is a separate app and I use it a lot to keep in touch with family. I can login to Facebook once in a while from my PC.

Facebook is a bit like LinkedIn for me. I forget to login to LI for months on end. When I do I’ve usually got a few hundred connection requests that I mass approve.

A few months ago I had a bit of a concerted effort to post content on social media platforms but got bored of it super fast. It’s not the same as posting into a community in a forum or even a Facebook group. People don’t really get to know you on social media platforms. Posting on social media felt to me more like speaking *at* people rather than having a conversation *with* people.

The science is stacking up on digital involvement. Constant dopamine release accompanied by diminished interactions with people and nature. Leads to misery. Happiness level in the US are plummeting. I had Facebook for about 6 months years ago. What a miserable time suck. And they changed their feed algorithm to give you what they want you to see. Not necessarily what you're interested in.

Another question is this:

What if there are more people buying hot-dogs in places besides the ball-park?

Also, someone provided the hot-dog seller with the buns and the sausages to cook and sell. Why isn't that someone in the ball-park with the seller?

I'm thinking that Facebook shouldn't be the box that keeps us entrepreneurs in, as @Kak spoke about recently on Amazon.

Wow I knew people disliked FB but I didn't know people hated it so much lol!

On the business front, FB has made me alot of money, and it seems like it's made alot of other people on this forum alot of money.

On the personal front, I have a profile, and have found a whole bunch of long-lost old friends through it and it's now a way for me to stay in touch with my loose connections, wishing people happy birthday and hearing about their milestones etc.

So yeah, for passing a little bit of time and for staying in touch with loose connections, FB does its job and does it well IMO, I've deliberately placed it in a FOLDER on the SECOND page of my device, probably that helped abit lol.

But yeah, I guess I have to say I kinda like FB despite all the scandals etc.

i deleted it some months back, even before this latest bru-hah-hah, but my college daughter had a conniption. It's her primary way of sharing her life with me so i'm back on it. I have no "friends" other than my wife and 3 kids and then there are some decent groups i'm in (4 to be exact).

I often get asked by people i've un-friended and the rest of my siblings what going on and i tell them i only use it for the kids, all other is just noise i don't need right now.

So I find out today that someone is impersonating me on Facebook and sending all my contacts SCAM messages via Facebook Messenger. And because it's messenger and not a profile, it continues to happen.

You think Facebook has an easy way to report this?

Nope.

And now I'm forced to login into Facebook and spend MY valuable time trying to fix it.

Whoa?!?! The gall of people.

It wouldn't even occur to me to impersonate someone on Facebook. If these scumbags are smart enough to think of cr@p like that, then surely they're smart enough to build a legit business?

Low lifes...

Deleted facebook years ago.

I could care less about how people see me or how attractive and successful people try to make themselves out to be.

Currently only use whatsapp and cyberdust. The people who really care about me are gonna be on there asking me how I am. I like these apps because I feel like they take my privacy seriously. Facebook would stab you in the back without a second-thought.

I think the next generation of social media platforms opportunities are gonna fill this gap of distrust of government, big corporate bureaucracy and "false friends" and more towards authenticity. Huge opportunities in these areas.
