Hi everybody,

as mentioned in my Introduction post I distribute the book The Millionaire Fastlane in Bulgaria. I am collecting feedback from people who are reading it and this is what a client told me three weeks after she bought the book "The book is great but the author was lucky to catch the beginning of the Internet".

I don't consider MJ as lucky but the rest is true. Well known fact is those who participate in the beginning while a system is created are the ones who profit the most. Few days ago a friend of mine admitted that because of the low entry level he is capable to have a software company which wouldn't be possible for him 10 years ago.

Thinking about those conversations and living in time of pandemic and separation I have started noticing a new niche, big as the internet in 90's, which people need 10 years from now. It is a system for building relationships with people. Business is trust so no matter you are a salesman or an entrepreneur you won't have any distribution problems.

I have started my system using knowledge from my mentor so if you are interested let's talk about it.

Best regards,
Ivan

I personally think space is the next internet. Totally unrealized value out there that could change everything.

As far as luck is concerned, I don't care what business you start, someone will always find a way to claim that you got lucky... The reality is you either play the cards you are dealt and seize opportunity available to you, or you don't.

Electric transportation will get bigger and bigger, and I wouldn't be surprised if Canada & the US would follow (especially with our government leaders)

I'd like to see more affordable options, and think that would be a good industry, here in Vancouver electric bikes and scooters have been becoming more and more popular.

Electric planes or boats anyone?

About space... I remember listening to one of your earlier podcasts and you were giving an example of all the businesses that work together to bring you your cup of joe.

Imagine all of the businesses that likewise will go into space! Businesses that will help other businesses get to space and businesses that will help businesses that are already in space! It's limitless!

Shared economy (Air BnB, Shared Kitchen etc.).

Cryptocoins - the questions is which one will become the new standard?

Meatless ... meat. And labgrown meat.

Internet of things - 5g.

I personally think it'll be automation, granted that we are automating a number of things since the 80s. However, the scale that it will hit will impact a large number of low wage workers (I work in manufacturing) and I see it happening from a rate that it took years to months.

New machines are getting cheaper and more accessible. This is also an opportunity for middle class people to get in and do their own 'flavor' of product and grow before markets get saturated.

I was thinking about this yesterday.

There are two answers to the question: the next "internet" is

1. Something someone will come up with.
2. Something you will come up with.

"If you don't know how the future will look like, design it".
- Peter Thiel

That being said, here are a few sectors of the future.

- Food: lab-grown food seems to be the future. Personally, I don't think it will ever work and would not invest 1 euro in it.
- Transportation: whether we bring back and update the Concorde or establish a hyperloop, it will be faster and less polluting.
- Weed and psychedelic: more people get f* by the day and I believe in the power of psychedelic to help heal. As social security weighs too much on governments' budget, they won't have the choice but to legalize.
- Tech: VR, blockchain as a system (not only for money but for any type of contract), AI, etc

If we aim at 20-40 years in the future, we'll probably see tech merging with everything else. Tech + biology, tech + chemistry, tech + social sciences....

What I believe is that while the Internet was still an easy technology to get started with, this won't be the case for future technologies.

Want to start a fake meat company? Go first do a phd in bio-chemistry.

Want to create a technological organ company like Carmat? Go study medicine, then engineering, and we'll talk about it.

I think wealth creation will be increasingly reserved to the Einstein of this world, as technology and problems become harder to solve.

Let's be honest. The richest people in the world happen to be also the smartest. Wealth = problem solving and problem solving = IQ.

That doesn't mean you won't be able to be a millionaire! Some small ventures will keep on thriving!

- Manual ventures: plumbers, electricians, cleaning
- Accounting ventures
- Supermarkets
...

The US cannot produce enough electricity to replace all gasoline and diesel powered vehicles.

Unless they want to burn massive amounts of coal. Which they don’t.

Figure out how to cleanly burn coal. That’s a solution to a worldwide problem. Not a bandaid or a half measure.

Coal is cheaper than natgas and gas/diesel.

The thing is that they can burn coal or natgas safer because when you burn coal
and just distribute electricity you can have heavy industrial filters at
a power plant.

When you burn gas/diesel in a car you're limited in what you can filter out
(and how much).

That's why Norway can do regulation like mentioned.
They will still burn a lot of fossil fuels (so no problem with lowered income)
but it will be a bit cleaner than combustion engines.

"The next internet" is like talking about "the next electricity".

It's not just an industry. It goes as deep as how any and all industries operate.

It's an infrastructure. It's as basic as the concept of a road.

Any of these things that we can sit and discuss as being "the next big opportunity" that is similar to the internet must be able to hold weight against being compared to basic infrastructure systems. Are autonomous vehicles like electricity? Are they like roads?

Ask "who really got rich from the invention of these infrastructure systems, and how?" and look for patterns.

Transport is very unpredictable in my opinion. Hydrogen vehicles are possible alternative too.

I'd say that a low-entry opportunity with a reward as big as the Internet pre-2000 won't happen again.

Before the internet, you had to pay for your knowledge. Information flew slower. Some businesses were profitable simply because they had information that others did not. Including those early internet businesses.

Today, you can become an expert in almost anything without paying anyone else than your internet provider. Information is almost free.

In other words, information is worthless. Mastery is not.

Why is that? Because mastery requires skill, skill requires time, and time is valuable. And since information is almost worthless, mastery is higher valued today than pre-2000.

And mastery takes time.

So, to profit on the "next internet" you must invest a lot of time. Way more than when the internet became a thing. And you must invest your time before your competition. Before it's clear if the "next internet" will become a thing or not. You have to enter the industry before you know if it's profitable or not. And you have to invest a lot of time.

Low entry opportunities cannot require mastery. That would make them high entry. Therefore, I believe that there will be no such thing as the "next internet".

Rather, it will the opportunities will come in all kinds of industries, not one big one. But they will all require some kind of mastery.

So many things, man.

Decentralization will be significant. Look at all of the Twitter censoring, social media, and political bias companies.

Decentralization will be huge.

LMAO!

The value is really in discovery IMO. There is so much of value that I hope is yet to be discovered. Space is a vast frontier of unknown and therein lies potential opportunity. The potential could be meh and not worth it, or it could be limitless.

I agree with you that building real relationships with others is extremely important. My belief is that we were not put on this earth to progress and walk alone, but we need others. I am very interested in learning more about your belief system on this topic.

Very few people are talking about the ecological impact of batteries. What does it take to mine and ship the materials, Build the battery then recycle it at the end. It's not just about generating electricity. How about EV repair shops and EV accessories. No one wants to be forced to go to the dealer for everything.

I completely agree. Although it won't be as cheap as the internet frontier, it is sure to be more profitable. Mining, commercial flights and all sorts.

1) Automation (web/tech) and robotics (esp manufacturing) in all industries
2) Telemedicine and Tele-services (You see it accelerated by COVID)
3) Space (STARLINK will literally dominate the internet provider market)
4) VR in large industries such as education/job training/ healthcare
5) genuine artificial intelligence (esp healthcare), automated diagnostic evaluations
6) Anything with green energy and green mobility

Move up minimum wage to 15/20 USD/h and we will see siginificant technological advances in previous low wage jobs. Automation is going to consume many jobs. Prime example Norway.

If you can think of a business which automates or reduces HR footprint for companies and therefore reducing cost it will always be profitable.

The internet changed communication forever.
The inclined plane, cogs/wheels, levers, pulleys, axles, screws, wedges, transducers, resistors, transistors, etc. changed technology (and thus societies) forever.
Money changed trading forever.

The next internet is like the next wheel. We'll know it when we see it, but it's fun to speculate.
Here are some contenders:
  • Augmented reality/cyber implants
  • Virtual reality
  • Space/ocean mining/exploration
  • Internet of things/"smart" cities
  • Genetic editing
  • Sustainable architecture (solarpunk)
  • Sustainable transportation
  • Automation/robotics
  • 3D printing
  • Machine learning/artificial intelligence
  • Decentralized, anonymous, online services
  • Quantum computation
  • Sustainable energy
If I had to pick one, I'd bet my money on the first one on my list. I think that will change how we view and interact with the world.

The new internet is probably just a new thing in the internet.

Many of largest internet companies in the world are not even born at the 1999-2001 era.

A lot of start-up before 2011 were focused on recommendation algorithms and failed. This is before Steve Job made smart phone a possible thing. The human to PC connection has to too little to support a good foundation for recommendation algorithm to work.

We have blockchain and digital currencies now.

Probably you do not have to be too creative or have a great foresight. A lot of things are happening right now and being too early might not be always good.

I have no idea what the new Internet is as it's very difficult to predict which trends will grow to such incredible size and importance.

But if we were to discuss just big emerging trends as many of you have in this thread, I'd say that the pandemic and the mental health issues it has exacerbated will create a huge need for products and services that address mental health. It'll go on for many, many years.

Russell Brand discusses it in this video:

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-ZaBPnGJVY

This will create huge opportunities in both the morally right and the morally wrong directions depending on how people approach their mental health issues:
  • psychedelics,
  • stress relief products,
  • anti-anxiety drugs,
  • therapy/meditation/mindfulness/religion/spirituality/journaling/breathing/sleep apps,
  • outdoor workouts,
  • nature and houseplants,
  • weed,
  • pornography,
  • social media and other ego-boosting technologies,
  • virtual communities,
  • living off the grid/moving to the countryside,
  • gaming.
And probably many more I haven't thought of. We're only beginning to enter the period of despair and I think it'll last longer than people think. In whatever way you can help people deal with uncertainty/bad emotions, you'll be probably making a lot of money (hopefully not by helping them medicate with bad stuff).
