Hey guys,

I'm getting into eCommerce for the first time and I want to make sure I sell a product that is in high demand, strong margin, good niche, low competition, etc.

Do you have any tips on finding strong product opportunities?

I was thinking finding current trends every month and sourcing/selling products around those trends?

Thanks

Your question is way too open, we do not know your economic conditions, demographics, expertise, etc.

Start with identifying a need for a product and see if you can fulfill that need with whatever you decide to sell. Help one person at a time and learn by doing!

to find product ideas, various ways:

  • Look at hobbies, interests, occupations.
  • use software like jungle scout/ terapeak
  • search amazon best sellers/ movers shakers
  • search popular/ trending items on ebay/ use watchcount.com
  • find vloggers on youtube see what products/ trends theyre promoting
  • pinterest, instagram, etsy
  • I got a great idea for a product yesterday from something my wife pointed out in a local store catalogue that although currently isn't hot, i'm confident is going to be trending this spring/summer.
  • Look at what people around you buy, their interests, vlogs they watch.
  • look at ecommerce businesses for sale on empireflippers, bizbuysell, flippa, shopify exchange for inspiration.
I currently mainly focus on accessories in various different markets because they're
  • cheap with good profit margins
  • easy to store and ship (and dropship)
  • consistent year round demand
  • impulse purchases
  • often repeat purchases

Where I live there is a game called corn hole. It uses bean bags that you throw. How about bean bags? Not sure on margins.

I looked through all of the threads you have created and compiled a list of them. Here they are:

•WTF Should I sell?
•Fundamentals of SUCCESSFUL eCommerce
•Which business model for $1k/week in 4 months?
•What should I do with my life?
•Which Business model is best?
•Just inherited $2M land
•The Cannabis Industry
•Copying Business ideas
•What will boom? 2018-2023

Can you find something in common? Nearly every one of them starts with Hey guys, and then you ask a question. There’s a thread around here somewhere about how we can’t answer your life questions. I can’t think of the name of it.

You need to stop asking these hand-holdy questions and just get started. Your idea doesn’t have to be a home run. It could be a complete failure. If you want to find out what makes a successful ecommerce business, make an unsuccessful one, and then fix your mistakes the next time around.

What problems are you looking to solve in other people's lives?

A product/service can be birthed from genuinely getting to the bottom of that one question and of course, by applying the logistics of everything we speak about daily on this forum will help you refine that product/service.

However, you are clearly seeking shortcuts and not a Fastlane business but a FastPace, Get Rich Quick business, you are mixing up the concepts and that doesn't offer a happy ending. You will easily waste away years of your life with empty get-rich-quick-and-selfishly schemes. I wish you luck.

@GetShitDone You're catching a lot of grief on this thread. Please keep in mind it's all in good fun. Everyone here wants to see everyone else succeed. The problem with your question is your asking how to find the holy grail which may or many not exist.

The answer to your question is there is no one perfect product. It all depends on your expertise, target market, marketing strategy, sourcing strategy, and a whole host of other variables that nobody knows but you.

Take some time and think about all of those variables. Look at some of the other threads on the forum and come to your own conclusions. Nobody can answer this question for you because it's different for all of us.

I recommend biophase's post:

An old coworker was building cornhole boards and just putting designs on the face, whatever you wanted, and throwing some cheap LED lights around the hole and couldn't build them fast enough at 275$ a piece :) all word of mouth might I add.

Hey guys, very humbled by the responses and I appreciate your bluntness.

There were both answers directly to my question and also overall attitude changes.

I will read the threads mentioned in here and I will figure out what would work for my specific situation.

Have you read UNSCRIPTED ? These are the kinds of questions that piss MJ and the real entrepreneurs off. Seems like you are looking for a shortcut. Just got to start moving. Guys on here won't make money for us.
