I have seen @MJ DeMarco mention picking up the phone and being on time is now a value skew in some industries. It’s ridiculous that it’s so true.

I’m looking for a simple lawn mower part. It has the name of the company that machined it, and the part number. Taking it off, I was like “lucky me” this should be super simple to track down.

I was wrong.

I called the store I bought the lawn mower from. I called three small engine repair companies. I searched Google. I called the actual lawn mower manufacturer and I called the company that machined the part for the lawn mower manufacturer.

I literally want to give someone my money for something I know each of them has had at some point.

No luck. Remember I have the part number and the name of the company that made it stamped right on it. Best I have found are chinchy part websites with back order options.

I’ve spent too much time on this. I’m just going to buy a new lawn mower unless @Johnny boy has solid parts guy for me to call. :rofl:

Did you Google the part number? Bidding on part numbers worked pretty well for a hydraulics client I had a while back.

From personal experience, like @Lex DeVille I found our person to be beyond useless. I was told that SATs don't matter etc. But that was decades ago. Worst advice possible came from counselor. I don't want to generalize, maybe he didn't give a shit about me specifically but helped someone else. I'll never know.

The sessions are private, but the time you spend with a school counselor only happens (happened) during school hours, so it was obvious when anyone was taken out of class to see one, which was extremely rare. Normally we just had one very rare session every few years or so to discuss our academic goals, pick classes, etc. Nothing mental health related or anything like that, which a lot of students probably need.

Although... the last people I would trust with that are public educators, the government, school system, etc. There will always be an agenda based on who is doing the "molding" of young minds.

Tack on six figures of upper-level psychology educational debt and a fancy-sounding degree, and the hour per year spent with these counselors really doesn't sound like much bang for your buck (or theirs).

He is travelling quite a bit soon so maybe he is already on the way, might be without internet in transit.

We just buy Home Depot mowers and throw them out when anything breaks lol
 
@Kak @Johnny boy I'm friends with the owner of a large local Honda dealership. He actually services lawnmowers in the back of his auto dealership and has every single part you could dream of. Does tons of business with local immigrant-owned landscaping crews.

That's were the disconnect lies, I thought we were talking about people who "guide you" towards your future. Not a therapist that's fixing mental health problems. Luckily, so far, I know nothing of what shrinks actually do.

Right, I think we are talking about the same thing. Their education is what is supposed to be helping students pick the right path in life. But if there is too much "fluff" in those meetings, things like "you can be whatever you want to be, but if you don't get your grades up you won't go to Stanford"... it's not very useful. We all struggle at that age with figuring shit out (hell, many struggle at 2x or 3x that age still). It's helpful to have someone bounce ideas with, especially if they have relevant experience/knowledge. For me, I didn't get that from our high-school (decades ago... mind you, might be very different now). Best I got was a pep talk on how to apply to Universities and where to find the flyers (back then we had brochures and fliers on a physical wall!). I still remember the guy: Garth. And remember being pissy about him not being helpful and having to do all the work myself. Looking back, maybe it was me who was an entitled little jerkoff kid thinking that our guidance counsellor was supposed to be more helpful. Why should it be that way? If he saw I was going to be OK, kicking me out of office may have been a very intelligent move. Do the work! Not bad advice.

Having every student focus on their own mental health will exacerbate the problem even further, as true mental health comes from being more often able to look outside of oneself and one's own feelings, not getting better at navel gazing.

1) I realized that with increasing use of AI tools, I'm working my brain lesser and lesser. This probably applies to many others as well. In future, our brains may evolve to become smaller and less advanced (while AI becomes more advanced), and the number of people with dementia/alzheimer's may increase considerably in the far future. Maybe brain/cognitive supplements will be hot in future.

2) Currently, many AI tools are difficult to use and install, and many are hosted on Git (which non-techy folks find confusing). Many are open source with messy command line stuff. And we know how shitty open source tools are in terms of usability. Some of these projects come with APIs. They need easy UIs to connect to. Maybe there's a hole in this niche.

Very random question:

I have a very low rate mortgage (just under 3%). I don't pay it off because I'd rather invest the money and get a higher return. But that got me thinking: the mortgage company would love for me to pay the mortgage off so they could loan the money out at the much higher current rate.

So here's the question: is it possible to negotiate a reduced price to pay off my mortgage fully given this scenario?

Unless it’s a portfolio loan (and it isn’t one at sub 3%), I doubt it.

Mortgage companies don’t carry the paper even if they still manage the monthly payment stuff. They have unlimited money to lend at the going rate because of the fact that they sell the paper up the chain.
