I've seen a few posts like this recently from the younger folk out there, and I hear ya. I just want to share something with you that came across my desk yesterday:

Wanish.jpg

Two things:
1. This kid is 16.
2. He's been working on this idea for several years.

Know where he didn't start?
He didn't start by saying "I want to make x dollars in x amount of time. What business can I start?"
I get it. I made the same mistake. But you're approaching the equation from the wrong side.

This kid just freaking started man. He went for it.

Now his products are in our grocery store, and we're going to blast our audience of 20,000 people today about his story and his great syrup.
Maple. F*cking. Syrup.

Just start guys. Find someone to help.
Go on the honest search for a way to deliver something of value to someone in need.

It gets said all the time by @ZCP and countless others.

The moment you get out of your own head and pay attention to others is the moment you start to live like an entrepreneur. Turn that focus outward.

That's a joke. Referring to @Odysseus M Jones suggestion that the Discord server is required for all newbies who ask questions like "is this Fastlane?"

It's this kind of post that confirms why I returned to the forum. Seven months in the waste land, I needed reinforcement. This speaks volumes in what's NOT said. All the work that went into making this a success and all the work yet to be done. I'll bet if anyone asked, should I get into maple syrup?, the answer would have been NO with a lot of reasons why it wouldn't work. This kid just went and did it. Here's some of what he must have had to figure out along the way:

1. how to collect sap
2. how to cook it into maple syrup
3. how to grade maple syrup
4. FDA and food safety requirements
5. Cooking hardware and systems
6. Bottling systems
7. sales/marketing: how, where, etc
8. finances
9. all the other stuff

Thanks for posting.

I'm glad it fell on someone with a good mind that needed it.

May it serve as inspiration to anyone else who wonders if it is worth it / has some limiting belief.

Get going.

Or, don't.

Be happy with your choice regardless.

Just get F*cking started.

From the story, decide to do it AND put all your efforts into achieving your goal.

How about a quick exercise:
when you were 16, what is something you could have done similarly?

Here’s mine: I was always mowing lawns for people back then. I didn’t put together that if I invested in some equipment, I could have had a flourishing business. Instead, I was happy trading my hours for dollars and then spending my paycheck like it was a job instead of saving it and building a service that could be productized into a monthly retainer, eventually hiring others to do the work.

Also, I was always wheeling and dealing in bmx bikes and parts. Could have done that too.
