"It takes disipline, and some intellect to position yourself on the right side of luck"

The amount of overlap between the skills needed for a poker player, and a successful Investor seems to me to be too great to ignore. - So I guess, I won't ignore it at all. If you could look into my head, you would see, a box therein - and inside this box, would be the "target". You see.. my Ni - it really won't stop trying to figure "things" out - and I have discovered that its a really good idea, to give it something "tough" to chew on.

Making money with money in the stock market, has been the task keeping it busy the last few years. Lately, there seems to be little left to learn, and I think its time to remove "Stocks" from my target box, and instead insert Poker. It's the dawn of a new Adventure - let's monitor how it goes.

Do I know anyone that plays poker?. no.. not really.

Is it even legal to play in Norway?. Well, thats "complicated" - and convoluted to say the least! There are however now a Norwegian Championship in poker once a year. There are however no casinoes where you as a private person can just go and play poker - this of course does make it slightly more challenging to get started. So while I wait for the politicians to realize that allowing betting on horceraces, and bouncing balls and "banning" poker, thats actually "skill based" is very peculiar indeed - my plan is to go across the border to sweden when Im ready for some hands on experience. There they have casinoes run by the state =)

My ulterior motives? Lol - creating "spaces" for my Fe is totally a thing here. I used to spend lots of time painting miniatures, and pondering about strategies for how to play them, and then have lots of fun going to warhammer tournaments. Just the social aspect of meeting "friends" and going up against one another in mental combat, it really appeals to me as a person. I made it a priority some time back though, that most of the "stuff" that I think about, should in one way or another contribute to making me money. - hello Poker!

Another is the freedom to go anywhere in the world, and bring my "work" with me. To leisurly explore the world, seems like a thing I would enjoy doing. So investing time into a game that I could play "anywhere" seems to me like a very good idea.

Then there is this need to see if I've figures myself out yet. Im perfectly willing to "figure" out if Im able to do this or not. And pay the penalty for failing, if that turns out to be the case. Reason being, that its my intuition that really put it on the table in the first place, - and as an Infj - ignoring your intuition - is really not the way to live your life.

And then I would welcome a chance to focus in on "persons". Stocks rally did NOT do this for me. Despite popular belief that your "playing" against other persons in the stock market - well - your not. The person your playing in that game, is found in the mirror, and nowhere else. In poker though - there is actual - persons - fighting you. And you can start studying the persons - to gain a upper hand in fighting them - and that appeals to me!

I will throw my Infj personality into the pit, and see how well its able to survive. And like in the roman days, your welcome to enjoy witnessing both my failures and successes. - you could learn from both i suppose.

My first goal, would be to participate in the national championship here in norway, around september 2022. So - I have roughly a year of preparation - and starting at pretty much Zero experience there seems to me that there is little time to waste.

People are attracted to the stock market and poker because they love the idea of money but the idea of having to produce something of value is icky to them.

Unless you're parking extra money in a fund. That is different. No problem with avoiding inflation that way.

I love poker and won a tournament not too long ago. I do not recommend it as more than a hobby.

Im interested in playing the mental game against real people - and focus almost as much on playing the people, as playing the actual cards - so that kind of rules out online gaming for me. What the heck I might need "soft skills" like that for in the future, I have no idea - but Im pretty darn sure - this is a part of a bigger picture that Im just not aware of yet. Like I said, much of the skills Im planning on using, will be "converted" stock investor skills. What Im planning on adding on top of that - is the mental games in going up against people of flesh and blood.

I really like the Daniel Negreanu tips =) He most certainly would be the kind of player to catch my fancy!

For me - the poker quest has very little to do with money. Its much more of a shadow work integration thing of sorts, with some beneficial softskills sprinkled on top.

I've met and played with Negreanu, he is amazing poker player whose public image is a little off from the reality. Nice guy but has made some serious mistakes in the last few years mostly around ego, but than again most professional poker players are blind egomaniacs.

Would not it be smarter to market yourself as an amateur rich weirdo with terrible spending habits and get on the table with really rich dudes? Professional poker players are usually not welcomed on high stakes games.

It's gonna take a new poker player years to be professional and jumping into high stakes as they will get their clock cleaned even with bad rich guys as the new player won't be rolled enough and even understand bank roll management which is the key to poker victory. Better to play some 1k to 10k tournies to learn the lay of the land or whatever that Norway tourney buy in is. Good thing about those tournies is there will be tons of lower tournies to join built into the schedule and also should be side cash games. High stakes poker is pretty high standard, like 50k or more buy in. Mid stakes runs pretty high to 50kish. Low stakes can go even up to 5k cash games BI.

Im really curious to see, all the benefits that might yield from pursuing an idea that your gonna be able to defend yourself in the game of poker. The Range of skills involved, seems pretty impressive to say the least.

You must get your emotions under controll - and in particular with regards to money.
You must learn to work with probabilities - a somewhat fickle subject to begin with, and then its affected by your opponents personalites - yet another fickle subject.
To be honest, the list of stuff worth mastering, is a long one!

Heck, perhaphs we all should pay to master poker! Could be one of the best arenas for personal development out there =) Know thy Self!
I guess trying to play poker without some serious knowledge about your strenghts and weaknesses, would be folly. In my entire life, I've only played one game of poker, and let me say one thing, my Se inferior, was totally overwhelmed with all the sensory input, combined with my laking knowledge of the game, so I struggled to just keep track of the friggin button!

This was right before Covid closed down all borders in 2020. And I really had no good idea why, I should be playing poker, as I said, I just followed my intution. Now though, I begin to have a pretty clear idea, that the skills needed to "do" this, - will be of great value to master.

Funny how over the last 3 days, poker, has gone from being totally absent in my mind, to becoming the thing in hyperfocus. I guess, its time to learn Poker! haha, life sure is funny.
