Then listen to the dozen podcasts which says specifically not to change anything.

Guys if you are jumping on the thread without listening to any of the podcasts then your advice is going to be way off. The main point of this challenge is you don’t change or adjust ANY of the rules and you follow everything 100%.

This isn’t a fitness challenge - it’s a discipline challenge. Changing things automatically means you broke the rules = you 100% fail.

Everyone is free to do whatever they want but don’t try talk about a modified challenge in this thread - it isn’t 75 hard and anyone doing the challenge for real is just going to ignore it anyway.

It’s one gallon of water a day.

No more posts on “can I” modifying anything - it’s very very clear you can’t if you listened to the podcasts on this challenge.
Listening to the podcast turned this July 4th into Day Zero.
Workouts outdoors are easy during Maine summers, and not too hard in winter when it's a twenty-year practice.
But starting 75Hard in Maine in mid-summer and passing up 100 local microbrews, homemade wine, bloodies and G & T around boating will be a bad, bad time, much harder than daybreak seaside workouts at 15F in January. A blizzard, on snowshoes, woul be easier than passing up an offshore Bloody Mary. It cuts. Picnics with a sweetheart who wants to drink pear wine. God help me.
Because of stubborn, primitive daring and pride the subfreezing physical challenges are to live for.
But no alcohol in Maine in the summer is like temporarily amputating a limb.
Bring it. I'm all in.
That rule will make life hell. So it's the one that matters most of.
Brews and campfire, a glass of rye under sail power, wine and song, goodbye to all.
No further questions.
Bring it!

@Fox I'm in! I love the challenge. I added somethings as well that will make me work on some of my weaknesses and keep me accountable

1) Strict Diet – No cheating, not even 1 bite, and No alcohol

2) Two Workouts* per Day – 1 has to be outside and both have to be at least 45 minutes

(*this can mean jogging, swimming, yoga - doesn't have to be gym)

3) Drink 1 Gallon of Water per Day – Nothing but clear, plain water counts

4) Read 10 Pager per Day – From a non-fiction self-help book or business book

5) Take a Progress Picture Every Day – So you can see the progress at the end

6) No porn

7) No naps

For 75 days with no days off.

Today could actually have counted for day one, but I did do number 7 so it doesn't count, I'll update my progress every day.

Welcome abroad.

I got no porn/fap as part of my challenge also.

A great app to track that side is called "brainbuddy". It works on resetting your dopamine.

Downloaded! Interestingly I also wanted to limit phone usage as it affects my dopamine and attention levels really heavily...

I am surprised by the number of areas that we cover in the thread, and that are crucial for well-being...

Btw I once heard / read somewhere that the best way to stop is to see yourself in a mirror when you do it :D

Hey everyone, hope you all had a great 4th, and welcome to those of you jumping on.

Last night I went out for fireworks. I finished everything before going out except my 10 pages of reading, including my one meal for the day.

Afterwards we went to a mexican restaurant where everyone got margaritas and some damn good looking food. I sat there with my glass of water and enjoyed exercising my iron-will. It honestly didn't feel difficult, because I am committed to this challenge 100%, but it was a good test.

Got home at 11pm (late for me) and finished my reading. Today is day 36, almost at the half-way mark.

I have another piece of advice for anyone that has trouble remembering if you've taken your progress pic for the day. What I did is create a separate album in my phone's gallery, which I named 75Hard. Every day when I take my progress pic, I move it into that album. I can look at how many photos are in the album and if it matches the day of the challenge, I know I'm good.

Quick story:

The first week of the challenge, I had a dream that I ate Pizza for lunch. In the dream I instantly knew I'd lost the challenge and was so pissed at myself. It was so visceral that I didn't realize it had been a dream until a few hours after waking up. I hadn't had a dream like that since I quit smoking the first time, when I would have ultra-real dreams of smoking a cigarette and be devastated the next morning.

So not strictly challenge related but I was having crazy vivid dreams the first few weeks of doing this. I was waking up with the pillow soaked in sweat and my heart racing.

I figured it was the amount of water but turned out it was some supplements I was taking. I have stopped taking all supplements the last few nights and am sleeping way better and deeper.

Day 22 today I believe. Nearly 1/3 there.

That might actually be right but for me honestly, it's always a habit that I've had in the past and I know that at least when I take a nap, I'm truly being lazy. I know that I could get focused on something else and be productive but instead I listen to that instant gratification that my mind tells me to take a nap even know deep down, I know it's only my habit, so I want to break it, that's all.

Thanks, I just installed it. I can keep myself out of porn pretty decently, far from perfect though, and I'm thinking of doing no fap at all either, but at the same time, I feel that if I fap just with my imagination, it might be good to make my mind think stuff, but at the same time, I'm sure it must drain energy so I'll do no fap. For the workout part, I modified it a bit. Instead of having 2 workouts of 45 mins, I'm having at least 1:30 of workout in my day. I'm training for a big triathlon so I'm often doing long session so that'll be a little modification that I think is totally fine. Thanks @Fox for sharing! One of the part that'll help me a lot I feel is the one of not eating crap. I mean, I eat pretty healthy at home, but when I get invited to eat out, I tend to follow where people want to go and let loose a bit. That'll help me to stand my ground and say no to people, not always be a people pleaser (which can be one of my weakness)!

I've been thinking about this challenge for a while now while traveling abroad. Traveling makes being disciplined and consistent even harder. I managed to keep a daily habit tracker and Mark off 12 daily habits each day for a month. This was my warm up for 75 hard.

I am going to start the challenge on Monday. Yesterday I parties for the last time and started keto today so I would be entering ketosis around the time the challenge begins for me.

I'll be doing the challenge by the book with some extra daily habits such as limiting internet and media exposure.

The diet is keto. Meat, fat, and green veg. I'm growing my own veg and will be eating home grown eggs and organic meat from the store.

I ordered some keto strips to pee on and measure my ketones. I'll only do this long enough to get the hang of keto.

I expect days 3-5 to be really hard. I've done low carb before and the brain fog was brutal. Hopefully it hits the worst part on Sunday so Monday I'm not slipping.

The reason why I'm doing this is:
- I gained some weight while vacationing for 3 months
- I've been craving some structure and discipline
- I believe habits determine my future so this is like a reset switch for my habits. Since I'm living in my hometown for the first time in 5 years it's a good time to ditch old habits and make new ones
- I've wanted to try keto forever. Mainly because I want to eliminate things from my diet and assess what my body likes and dislikes

I'm pumped to get started and try to enjoy the process. I'll take the parts I like and are sustainable and make those my habits for the rest of my life.

Good luck to you. You can help combat brain fog by adding salt and potassium to your water, and taking a magnesium supplement.

"Supplement with electrolytes. “Keto acts as a natural diuretic, so to counteract that you have to make sure you’re giving your body extra sodium,” Suzanne Ryan, best-selling author of “Simply Keto” explains. Replenishing your electrolytes is a great way to start feeling better fast. Take note of the key players – potassium, magnesium, and sodium. If you aren’t getting enough of them from your diet, which can be difficult to do on low-carb, incorporate them by way of supplements.
  • Potassium: Eat fish, meat, leafy greens, winter squash or supplement with 1,000-3,500 mg per day. If you are battling cramps, constipation, or muscle weakness, go for potassium.
  • Magnesium: Eat spinach, chicken, beef, fish or supplement with 300-500 mg per day. Magnesium helps with keto flu symptoms like muscle cramps, dizziness, and fatigue.
  • Sodium: Particularly important if you are exercising or live in a hot climate, supplement with 5,000-7,000 mg per day. Cramping is alleviated with proper sodium intake"

Today was that day for me - - I ended up with a 90 minute walk outside at 1 in the morning (wearing a reflective vest of course!) to get in my workouts for the day.

In it to win it!!!

I have been sick the last couple days, so atm both workouts have to be light walks which kinda sucks.
Even after just one week i started to see small physical changes.

Also I have lost 5lb.

Can't wait to hit the gym hard again.

For the first time in years I was at a party and in a cinema without eating snacks and drinking softdrinks.
I almost stayed home because I thought that I wouldn't enjoy it.
But I was wrong. I still had just as much fun and as an extra I feel good about myself too.

Day 49

This shit isn't fun anymore lol. This is my third (and final) attempt. Here's what I've learned:

Day 1 - 5
This is when excitement and motivation is high. It's fresh, it's like a new relationship, your as nervous as you excited. But you still need to get over the 'hump'. You jump on Instagram, make some inspirational posts get a few likes and comments from your mates.
"What's that challenge called?"
"Is there an app?"
"I'm starting Monday"

Day 6 - 20
This is when motivation peaks. You've gathered momentum, created new habits. Your unstoppable. You even start thinking it's easy. And likes keep pouring in. But you start to notice something. None of your mates are jumping in. Or they're doing it wrong, not following the instructions. Constantly making substitutions and justifying them. Oh well their loss you think, you've got this. I mean it feels easy right?

Day 21 - 50
Motivation starts to wane then eventually disappears. It's not fun anymore and it's no longer easy. The likes and comments are dropping off as well. Your friends have moved onto the next thing. None of them joined you or they did for a day or two then tapped out. And now what are you left with?

Motivation - that fire has all but burned out, now you notice how tired you feel

Validation - no one online cares anymore, something else is trending

All you have left is discipline. Discipline hangs around long after motivation F*cks off. Discipline will see you through. But you must be diligent, you must constantly work at it. Day in, day out. Left foot in front of right, right foot in front of left.

This has truly become a grind. And I love it lol

Well said. I'm definitely feeling the grind at day 37, on one hand I'm only half done, on the other I'm already half done. The weightloss I am experiencing is helping a bit with motivation, but man am I tired of working out twice a day. Drinking a gallon of water is a lot harder on my days off work as well.

Agreed that gallon of water doesn't get any smaller as you progress, no matter what it's still a gallon ha. Although I have been finding it easier recently as I starting eating only once a day at dinner (around 10pm). So I have all of my water drank before I've eaten. I find it much harder to drink a lot of water if I'm eating regularly throughout the day

I would just say if your tired sleep. Also your work load is insane, 2.30 hrs is a long time doing any thing.

Are you eating those gelatinous franken food energy gels triathletes love? I don't know if you are or not, but if your eating a lot glucose you may be experiencing crashes after massive insulin spikes.

I'm being presumptuous of course, I don't know much about your situation.

Week 1 completed, today is day 8.

I failed to check the weather today and it's supposed to thunderstorm from now until 1am so I may have to do another post-midnight walk. If it was just rain I would be out there toughing it out but definitely don't want to get struck by lightning.

I like walking at night though, it's peaceful with nobody around and you have time to collect your thoughts on the day and the plan moving forward.

My energy levels are much higher on keto and it's nice actually feeling full after a meal.

Been doing my progress pic and reading in the morning which I think is working better than doing it at night. Getting those crossed off the list first thing feels good.

so I’m totes a recovering ppl pleaser right? I encourage everybody. Smile everywhere. Always care about everybody but me. To everyone in my life I come across as bouncy, hyper, energetic Tinkerbell.

But the longer I do this the more serious? Focused? I get.. and as far as other ppl are concerned?

I just. don’t. care.

It’s weird but I think it might be kinda healthy. Like today, after the 2mi hike in the woods (98 degrees out) with the kids we stopped to get food for them and an iced coffee for me and there were these snooty tatted chubby millennials behind the counter. Normally I’d be all “oh god I look like crap sweaty gross ughhh” but today when they gave me the hipster judgy glance (cuz I was in a super rich part of town) in my muddy sneakers and t-shirt?

I just looked at them. I tipped. Got my drink. Left. They have no idea how much brain fog I battle every afternoon and it really doesn’t matter. (I started taking extra B12 and magnesium yesterday)

And right now? I’m at the pool and I’m having a blast with my boys right? They’re wearing me out (cuz I’m doing everything with them, until just now) going down slides and diving boards and jumping across those floating lily pads.. but I’m just chill in my brain. All the time.

I’m not glancing at my phone for a text from a guy. I’m not feeling anxious or stressed, even though I have stuff to do. I’m not worried about my body in this bikini or my future or my friends or anything. It’s like.. white space? Maybe I’m just tired but I feel so calm lately.

If this is “grinding” or self-confidence or whatever.. I dunno.. but I’ve never had it. Huh.

I’ve worked out everyday for 25 days. That’s a first. Technically I’m on Day 10.. I just.. I dunno.. I feel like this challenge really is changing me. It’s good.

Sorry for the long essay.. but you guys are the only ones who understand kinda.

Anyhoo. I appreciate y’all. Omg too emo. I’m gonna have some guacamole now.. lol.

Sorry for the long essay.. but you guys are the only ones who understand kinda.

Anyhoo. I appreciate y’all. Omg too emo. I’m gonna have some guacamole now.. lol.

I resonate with some of this for sure, especially the anxiety. I don't know if I'm too tired to care about the crap I used to worry about from the exercise, or if I've gained more self-confidence from being disciplined. Maybe it's both. Keep grinding!

Back to F*cking day 1. After a 2h30 min bike and 30 min run I just F*cking took a nap, I felt so tired. I know I didn't need it though and I could have got through my day without it. Anyone has any tips? Back to F*cking day 1 guys, it's going to be brutal but worth it!!!!

Scrap the nap rule man. Its not needed.

You are pushing your body super hard - the odd nap is fine.

Even Arnold and co would take naps back in their bodybuilding days - you body wants that time to recover and build muscle.

I went for my usual forest walk yesterday and found out there was some kind of race on. After seeing two people run by me I thought I'd try to follow them for a few minutes just for the laugh. I ended up getting into the middle of a little pack of about 10 people.

I had only started as a little joke for myself but I didn't want to quit with a few people around me so decided I would just stay going. Ended up running around 35 minutes up and down all sorts of trails (it was a kind of mud orientation race). They looked like fairly experienced athletes so I was pretty proud of myself ha. At every checkpoint, I would hide behind someone else and just mutter some stuff cause I didn't have a race number.

I ended up doing a full lap of the circuit (I think around 7km) and only two people got past me while I managed to pass a few others out.

What kept making me laugh so much was I was holding my 1.5 litre bottle of water, was wearing a massive Irish rugby jacket, and had just had breakfast ha. Meanwhile, I am stuck in this pack of athletes with all the pro gear and headbands etc. Some of them asked me some stuff in Polish but I hadn't a clue what they were saying - "ya buddy" with a big smile.

I think overall my self-confidence and my enjoyment of every day are going way up.

Today is #24. Ain't no quitting now

Nice profile picture, you ever listen to K-Billy’s Super Sounds of the Seventies weekend? It’s my personal favorite.

Yup, it's one of my personal favorites too. That radio puts me in a great mood for dancing & cutting stuff with my razor...

Searched the thread until I found "JEFIT"

You mentioned this mental / physical technique and I'm 100% gonna give it a shot

In May decided I was gonna get back to the 80 - 85 kg I was, started really hard in the gym, and improved my diet greatly until around 3 weeks ago when I was hospitalised with crazy high blood pressure.

Now that I'm much more under control, I'm getting back into the gym / fitness / healthy eating again, I've also been proactively reading books more (Just Finished Sabri Subi's book)

I'm gonna give this a challenge and see how I do, I expect it to be tough, but I need a good sharp kick in the a$$ to get back into shape, and this should help me gain monk like disciple :D
