I joined this site recently joined this site and I have gotten a pretty good feel for the mood here. I can't believe how many motivation videos, success articles, or quotes get posted here.

This is an advice for pretty much anyone. Get off youtube. You can go look for motivational videos all you want but it's a waste of time. You're not going to come across a niche or a problem by watching other gurus.

Find your motivation in your actions. I would rather read how you worked on your web site until 1am until you couldn't keep your eyes open rather than watch a 2 minute video on some guru talking about how to success. If you haven't figured out already all those gurus provide vague analogies that will not help you at all.

Yes yes, you gotta want success more than you want to breath. What the hell does that mean? How do you action from that information? You can't.

Success will come when you balance your time with your 9-5 job, a wife, your kids, your business, friends, and sleep. If you can find time between all your responsibilities to get one youtube then you are not working hard enough.

That's my rants boys and girls.

For all of you guys that (like me) don't have the self control : download the Chrome extension StayFocused and give yourself a time limit for youtube and other time-wasting sites. Don't waste your willpower by trying to stop yourself from going to sites like youtube... This will FORCE you.

I've got two extra monitors hooked up to my notebook. I find it absolutely necessary to keep some motivational videos going on one of my monitors. When I first started I used to get sidetracked, I would constantly stop what I was doing to watch some of the stuff. Now I just keep them going as sort of an ambient subconscious thing. I have a huge playlist that I just start every morning. I also have a shit load of Dan Kennedy videos that just play in the background.

I agree with everything you said above. But if you can add the stuff to overlap your routine I think it is beneficial. I think you should always have motivational audio going in your car.

It's a tool, like the internet. The internet can suck your life away or make you free from financial burdens, depending on how it's used. I learned how to swap a clutch on YouTube. I learned how to bench-bleed a master cylinder. I learned how to repair a laptop I thought was totaled that went on to last another 3 years. I repaired a free Roomba that was in a junk pile at a yardsale with $2.75 in transistors; I hear it vacuuming my downstairs now.

Use everything wisely. Don't get dragged down.

CHEESY a$$ QUOTES ALL OVER THE PLACE ON IG.

So many people on IG glorify this chick who was a mistress to many men, died of a drug overdose...what the hell??? that's not someone you should glorify as a role model???

I cant even begin to count how many useful skills i've learned from youtube, but i will concur.....we many times use youtube as a way of escaping the things that we NEED to be doing and actions we NEED to be taking. I like the chrome extension idea.

Youtube is a tool.

So are smartphones and computers.

You can dick around and play Angry Birds and BF4 on both of those, but you can also become extremely productive with them.

Use Youtube the same.

I agree it's a great educational tool, you can learn a lot from youtube but that's not what I'm talking about. I haven't seen someone share a video on your to change your car oil on a 95 camry.

It's usually about some great motivational speech on becoming successful. People waste their getting on youtube, watching it, going to forums, writing a post about how motivational the video is. All that wastes time.

Just wait till you see how many startups there are for helping startups start up started by startup guys who never started a startup in their entire life. One gigantic circle jerk if you ask me.

:happy::happy::happy::happy: what he said.

Ahhhh.... I love a good motivational video whether it's by a motivational speaker like Les Brown or Zig Ziglar or a Nike produced video like the one I posted not too long ago.

I take exception to your general characterization that those who post motivational videos here are wasting time and not doing the things to progress their business. As if I'm just scouring youtube at all hours of the day looking for these types of videos. Sure there maybe some that do that kinda like those that collect ebooks and training courses and never doing anything with them but, for the most part, they are likely the exception. Don't get me wrong, your words of caution may even motivate someone to take action today :) and that's a good thing. After all, that's what a good motivation video does for me.

There is NOTHING on youtube that will get you closer to success.

I think I understand where you want to go with this, but like some of the others have said, I totally disagree.

IF you're referring to circle-jerking videos that waste your time, yea, AGREE. Stay off YouTube.

However...

I am practically on YouTube everyday and it's to learn something, or to solve a problem I need to figure out.

Want to know the "how and why" behind this forum and it's current state? Thank YouTube. There are videos on there that taught me what I needed to know to move from vBulletin to Xenforo. The TMF website? It's built on Bootstrap ... how did I learn? YouTube.

I could go on and on...

Yes yes, you gotta want success more than you want to breath. What the hell does that mean? How do you action from that information? You can't.

Sure you can. If you have a defined process and put forth that type of effort into that process, you will see results. It's when that effort is not focused and is scattered among typical money-chasing shit, or activities. I joined Amway. I joined the ZYZ affiliate program. I created a blog and made 2 posts. Blah blah blah -- don't mean shit.

I've downloaded the motivational video on the forum's sidebar -- I listen to if every-time I hit the gym. Since I started doing this, I haven't had a bad workout. It's a nice reminder that to achieve what others wont, I will need to sacrifice like others wont.

I can't slam that.

YouTube is a tool if deployed correctly. Or, it could be a waste of time and cesspool of mediocrity.

Like everything in life, you get to choose how it works for you, or doesn't.

Some people can't have a drink of alcohol without becoming an alcoholic. For them, abstinence is the only logical conclusion.

The same is true about xBox, YouTube, porn, or anything else you turn into an addiction.

If it's a problem for you, don't do it. However, I am not the judge of your use of alcohol, YouTube, or porn.

Decide for yourself.

If it's a problem for you, cut it out. However, don't assume that your own issues are someone else's.

The brush you paint with is too broad.

While I don't agree with you that YouTube is the problem (it taught me more than most of my college classes), the core of your message is true. Relying on dumb motivational material is stupid.

There's a bodybuilding/fitness blog I often read. The main author said something interesting once, and it applies to more than just lifting weights.

He said that if you try to make a big change in your life from "motivation" you will fail. You have to think bigger. Make the change habitual. Ingrain it into your head. Because one morning you're going to wake up sick and hung over and shitty. And no amount of "motivation" is going to get the old "you" out of bed. You have to be a different person. You have to have changed.

I think you guys might be missing the bigger point. This is about youtube. It's about wasting time looking for motivation.

People seam to want to waste time online whether it's youtube, reading articles, posting on forums, etc, etc trying to find motivation to be successful.

I would like to see people write post about them actual doing things, running into problems, needing advice on improving their business, become a bigger person where they have to make hard decisions.

Hopefully that clarifies it more.

This is a GREAT statement and really reflects how change is made.

However, "motivation" still plays a role in transforming the you of old, to the you of the future -- at least, in the beginning. The motivation helps in the starting phase where your actions are new to your life and NOT quite habitual yet -- it's when you're fighting old habits and the old you -- the motivation can help you break-through to the point where you have changed, and don't quite need it anymore.

For example, lets say you want to compete in a Triathlon. Motivation can get you started and perhaps to the point where you're beyond starting and the training is no longer unusual, but apart of your life and a habit. At that point, you no longer need the motivation because the actions have become apart of your lifestyle.

Action is easy. Committed action is not. Motivation can be apart of that bridge the seals the gap between "taking action" and "habitual action". As we all know, getting started is easy, finishing is not.

I learned a lot from you tube. I listen to it all day with my headphones while I'm working the 9-5. Fortunately I have a desk job where I'm at the Com all day creating content.

But, I'm pretty much getting a college education, while I work.

Yes, motivation can help. The people I'm referring to use motivation as an excuse not to take action. Either because they lack motivation or are constantly looking for more.

The main reason why people don't take action is because they don't value what the action will bring them. If you cared about your help you better be in the gym and sweating.

I say skip the motivation and take the action. Value the action and it will bring motivation.

Just like anything else on the web, Facebook, email, Youtube, Twitter and Instagram are all tools and it all depends on how someone uses these tools.

Because of the motivation that MJ's book provided, I used these tools to build my website and tell the world about it with a little to no knowledge on building websites and online marketing. I learned how to use Filezilla, edit HTML and PHP codes and embed payment buttons on Youtube. The internet and social media forums are places where people gather and these are the places where people express their problems. This is the place where an entrepreneur should be. Because of these "helpful" tools, I recouped the fees I spent on web hosting and domain registration in a little over a month - still a slowlaner though.

I hated posts by drama magnets on FB and Twitter. But I was looking for a problem and hid all that I find garbage. Again, I believe it's how we use them. Take action. It's the key.

Love this! So much of this Youtube mentality is that their is gold out there. There is gold to be had by suckering sidewalk folk into watching your vague success formula, otherwise it is a bag of filler.
