Hello all,
First off, I'd like to thank MJ for writing the most real and pertinent book I've ever read. At some points, I felt as though you were talking directly to me - the love of cars, being mid-20s and still living at home, trying a number of different ideas and not having the right mindset about it, seeing all your friends buy houses and nice cars and not having much of one's own, etc...The book is a true kick in the a$$ and hearing you narrate it (mobile university) was even better. I actually was a bit disappointed that it ended.
After reading the new users post, a little about me: I live in SoCal, currently with parents. I'm motivated by cars, I have a list of 7 cars that I must own in my lifetime (1 down, thankfully) and I want to be able to afford them within my means.
I've got 2 things I'm working on, one as a hobby (not fastlane, but something I've always wanted to do) the other as a business idea (fastlane, and weirdly similar characteristics to MJ's). I've been fortunate enough to work at some really cool places and be well-versed and knowledgeable in my industry (Ferrari, Porsche Racing, Shelby, etc) and the marketing industry.
Currently, I'm working at a place where my boss is one of my good friends - it's a marketing firm that's fairly small and everyone (almost) is friends. I have a title I want, flexible hours (in 3 days a week), and have relative freedom in how I land clients.
The issue for me is this: it's 100% commission. This means that while one month I may earn 10k, the next I may earn 0. This has gotten tedious and has gotten to the point where I've had to sell things the past few months to make ends meet - my bills are fairly low (under $2k). I like the job and especially the flexibility, but don't have any savings left and need some form of consistent income. I feel as though I should get something that gets me consistent income (part-time), keep this job and work towards my business ideas, which is what my family and girlfriend tell me as well. I want to keep the inspiration from the book rolling and am trying to figure out what would make the most sense.
I'm looking for advice and anyone's thoughts - apologies if this is a longer post than traditional but I'm excited to move forward. Many of the things mentioned in the book match my mindset and ideas, so I know that I'm on the right track - I would like to get an outside perspective though.
Thanks all and excited to be here.
