Is this an inside joke or are you actually being serious?

"Hey man, I see you taking on this difficult challenge to try to improve yourself. Just remember hard things are hard so don't bother trying, that way you'll avoid disappointment"

No, you misunderstood me. The context was more like; "Well done Fox for trying this, however for others reading this, it is extremely hard, and if you're not used to that you are more likely to fail at this and feel bad thus negating the positive effects.

Instead start somewhere easier and build up to this kind of discipline. A week, 2 weeks, a month and so on."

It is like James Clear says in his book Atomic Habits, don't start any habit that you can't complete in 2 minutes, that way you can't fail, and that two minutes will turn into a fully embedded habit after a relatively short time.

If you don't want to do this challenge and don't see the value go start another thread with what you are doing.
Let's see who is where 3 months from now.

Back to the challenge...

This is day 7 of attempt 5 and there is NO WAY I am going to fail this thing again.

Everything is getting front loaded...

- Water intake starts the moment I wake up

- Reading is done before my morning 45 workout (forest run/walk)

- Second water starts when I get back (I get through 1.5 litres doing the first workout)

- First progress pic is taken before I shower (I take two everyday cause I prefer after I workout but the first pic is back up)

- Diet is the easier one for me > I cook all 90% my own meals and I just don't buy junk. If I eat out I only even look at this super healthy hipster vegan places - they don't even have anything bad I could order. Problem solved.

- I got a big glass wardrobe in the office and I got it all written out to track it

This new switch up covers all the gaps I had before.

Also to show how this links in with work it is something like...

Wake up at 6:00am
Read and out the door: 6:30am
Finish walk, progress pic, shower and breakfast: 830am
Work and then gym: 3:30/4pm
Done

I got 4 till 9 to do whatever and then start winding down for bed.

Very nice! My 2nd workout is later and later so I get home and showered ~8pm and then have trouble sleeping. I may need some adjustments.
BTW Side effect of keto? I pop awake after 6 hours sleep. Not sure if that is good or bad :).
Progress - Day 4, I feel I'm finally getting my wind back. Down 22 pbs since starting keto on 5/2.
Dirt was finally dry enough to go MtB. This new 29 inch Trek of mine makes to so much easier!

For my diet I cut out all processed foods.
Only eating fruits, vegetables, meats, eggs, yogurt, and rice.
Also eating at a 500 kcal deficit.

Working out with a 45 minute walk/ jog in the morning and a calisthenic/ stretching routine in the afternoon.

Got a nice 750 ml cup of water, just gotta drink a little over 5 cups of that and I'm good for the day. (Tho it's actually pretty hard)

For my book atm I'm reading 'Contagious: why things catch on'

Planning to take my progress pic right after my 2nd workout.

It gets easier. At least it did in my case - I was feeling extremely stuffed for first few days but since day 4 I'm finished with a gallon at around 8 pm and I need more.

This morning kinda sucked. Got up early but someone called right away.

I ended up burning an hour on a call I could have just taken later (or not at all).

After the call the excuses came rushing in "dude just walk later - it will be nice in the evening".

I was arguing with myself for maybe 15 minutes about jumping right into work or leaving the house to walk.

Eventually, I just shut my brain off and went out the door. Had a decent walk and am somewhat back on track with my day now.

Just got to cut out that inner loser voice when it comes up and stick to the plan.

The list looks excellent except for the 1-gallon water per day. It is one of the dangerous things and you are putting your kidney under extreme stress/strain. Drink water only when you feel like or if your body wants. Don't drink it for the sake of drinking it!

PS: I've solved this and many similar challenges a long time back. I am currently running a 2 year (720+days) non-stop, every day 2-hour meditation streak

If you space it out you’re well below safe limits. It’s around 20% your max.

You just don’t want to be downing the whole gallon right before you go to bed (obviously).

This is a SUPPORT thread.
Are you being 100% supportive?!?

No?

THEN GET THE F*ck OFF THIS THREAD!!
~~

Congrats to everyone for having better game plans. I’m on Day 9 and it FEELS like every weird emotional issue I’ve ever had is popping up to try and self-sabotage. In reality I’m smoothly checking off boxes and managing to get everything done every day. But I haven’t been consistent for WHEN I get everything done and this is definitely my biggest life problem.

Emotional sabotages include:

I have ex/boyfriends texting me, one of whom I was madly crushing on for a month while he pursued me in ridiculously romantic ways before I decided he wasn’t a good guy... and yesterday I literally stumbled upon new info.. he’s married. !!!!!! WTF? I dunno why it matters to me but It Does.

I found out someone betrayed me and is making thousands off of my idea. I found out one of my best friends is pregnant.

My accountability partner screwed up and went back to Day 1.

I’m like a freaking basket case. It’s bad. BUT!! I haven’t screwed up.

So.. ya know.. this shit isn’t easy.

You definitely start seeing (or hearing?) all the self-sabotaging thoughts that go through your head every day.

I wouldn't focus too much on what has already happened but it is good you know have more awareness to move away from that stuff.

There's one thing that comes out of all these events:

It's all happening to other people.

Flick that switch to off and focus on yourself.
For that person that stole your idea, it sucks big time... but you can come up with more ideas, right ? You have to start thinking "So what ? Here is what I am going to do now" Don't let others get to you !

Keep going !

I am slowly working my wrist strength back up to normal so I'll be able to do bodyweight training inside... slowly setting things up for the challenge ! I tested my ability to drink 1 gallon of water and it's way easier than I though it would be. Setting up a diet plan is my next move.

Hey all,

I appreciate everyone's transparency so far with their struggles and wins so figured I'd chime in.

I'm only on day 4 (attempt 2) and diet has by far been the biggest challenge. I'm actually trying to gain mass and getting enough calories from clean sources feels like a part-time job.

Had an interesting conversation with my housemate last night about how he now feels motivated to start doing two-a-days after I explained the challenge to him, which had me pretty fired up (he's been wanting to get in shape for awhile.)

You never know who's watching I guess?

Anyways I'm still pretty green on this attempt so we'll see how these knees hold up as the days progress.

Keep grinding!

While I tend to agree with you that the over consumption of anything can be bad. The idea of drinking too much water being 'dangerous' is a wee bit hysterical. I get it, people have died from drinking too much water, but people have died from texting and driving. Some people aren't very bright. Also if you find your not thirsty enough, make yourself thirsty. Push yourself, not over a cliff but maybe a little closer to the edge.

- It's hot outside? Good, put on a fine big Winter jacket, toque, gloves and walk outside. Get a good sweat going, you won't be long getting thirsty.

- Feeling hungry? Good, instead of eating down a litre of water and see how you feel after. Chances are you'll find you were never hungry to begin with. Because lets face it, none of us have ever really been hungry. I'm not necessarily advocating prolonged fasting (although I will be playing around with it next week) what I am saying is there's a lot of 'noise' in our minds and sometimes we mistake emotions "I want to eat" with physical responses "I need to eat". Staying hydrated maybe even over hydrated will give you a better chance to gauge what your body actually needs.

So.. ya know.. this shit isn’t easy.

Left in front of right.
Right in front of left.
You got this

Hey man, welcome and best of luck. Transparency is key, it's an honour system. I could be drinking bacon grease as I write this so we've all got to trust each other. As we all know though your only lying to yourself.

I'm also trying to gain mass but as 'cleanly' as possible so I suppose the term would be 're-composition'. The best resource I've found online in regards to nutrition is Stan Efferding's Vertical Diet, you don't need to purchase it. He outlines it in multiple interviews and video's. A little context, he's the personal nutritional coach for the strongest human well.....ever. 'The Mountain', so he knows a thing or two about increasing mass and performance. Everything he recommends is whole food based, little to no supplements, and yes I am aware 'The Mountain' is on steroids . Just food for thought, it may help you

I got a kayak yesterday and hit the lake. I learned that an hour on the lake @ 85 degrees with a quart of water was not enough! When I got out of the water I drank 2 half liter bottles in 15 minutes!
Did some research, rule of thumb for exertion in the heat is 5 to 7 oz every 15 minutes. You can dump up to 4 pints an hour, so you may not be able to completely re-hydrate until after you stop exertion.
So shoot for 24-32 ounces an hour when running, kayaking, mountain climbing, cycling...

This thread is getting fired up!

I am sure there are some lurkers - get in on this.

I have already failed 5 times and why that isn't great I have already learned a ton.

Don't be afraid to get started - better to try than regret not doing this a year from now.

Make a post on here and get going. Even if it is a post to state when you WILL start.

Duuuuude. I got done with my outside run/walk at 11:45pm WHILE reading my ten pages in the kindle.

Went inside and sat down only to vaguely feel like I had forgotten something, checked fb, forum, Skype, insta, forum...

Hmmm

11:58

I check my checklist. IM DOWN 11 oz of water!

I chug 16 oz panting. Check clock. It’s 11:59.

I made it. I’m good. This challenge is brutal. I ADORE my friends but not one of them is joining me on this. They’re all saying I push myself too hard.. and I’m like “I haven’t done ANYTHING with my life!!”

So yea. I’m still emotional. So emotional. Thank God for this thread and my insta stranger accountability partner dude.. if we make it.. it’ll be a miracle.

You don’t have to measure the end of the day by Midnight. Even Andy said on the podcast that he jumps out of bed at 1am before falling asleep sometimes when he forgets to take his progress pic.

Anyway, I took a few days off but I’m back on the train starting Sunday. I’m still feeling the mental benefits of the 12 days I did last time. I can’t imagine what 75 will feel like.

Bought a Moleskine for this challenge and it's been a worthwhile purchase. I've been doing the challenge for the past week and it's pretty embarrassing but I've failed five times and my longest streak has been two days, which means that I couldn't get past the first day on most days.

The most difficult task for me is most obviously diet, I'm pretty skinny and have a high metabolism. My objective is to gain mass and like @GenYJourney said, getting enough calories from clean sources is pretty difficult. What makes it more difficult is that I have three younger siblings who are all under thirteen and they are all fond of their snacks and it's pretty difficult to restrain yourself when everyone else is enjoying themselves. It is clear that I have a discipline problem, in order to solve this, I'm going to be making a list of 50 problems eating sugar will bring and 50 benefits of a sugar-free diet. An advantage I have is that, I have an affectionate mother who makes most of my meals. However, I've been helping her out and have been preparing meals for myself, whilst improving my cooking and I have been learning a lot about preparing meals since starting the challenge.

Water hasn't been an issue for me as I've been drinking three litres of water daily prior to this challenge. I just drink a litre during my classes in school whilst being bored. Asking the teacher if you can go to the toilet is one massive issue because most of them won't let you go, so I've just got used to going in between classes.

I used to lift weights as often as I could about a year ago but it's a habit I've lost and one that I should pickup again. My father isn't really keen of me lifting weights because he believes that they will stunt your growth, so I just make do and workout when he's at work or early in the morning at around 5 a.m. Outdoor activities hasn't been a problem since I have an energetic seven year old brother who plays outside a lot, so I tend to play football, basketball or go on the trampoline with him. Jumping on the trampoline is difficult when it's raining as it's very slippery and you start breathing anaerobically during the last ten minutes, but I've been enjoying it so far. It's summer now in the UK, so I can see myself going outdoors a lot during the rest of the challenge.

75 HARD isn't an easy challenge but I see that it can be very beneficial if you are committed to it.

I didn’t know this. I won’t be changing my approach though because for me the biggest challenge in this is in getting up early (which I’ve managed to do twice so far). If I measured my day “as anytime before I went to sleep” I’d be finishing up a workout at 3am every night.

Thanks though. I think it would help if I could actually listen to more than three of his podcasts but.. umm... meh.

That's actually a good point. If waking up early is a challenge then setting a cutoff for the end of the day may be a good motivation for getting out of bed.

Although it is not the same routine, this thread has encouraged me to start one that I had been thinking for several months, emphasizing some points where I need improvement:

1. Low calorie diet without alcohol / sugar
2. Gym: > 45min
3. Walk: > 45min
4. Meditate: 15 min, increasing every week
5. Reading: > 30 min
6. Writing: > 1 sheet of my notebook
7. Cold shower
8. No TV/ music/ computer (navigate aimlessly on internet)
9. No sex/ porn
10. Mobile use: < 1h

I usually do most of these points, but without routine sometimes I do not do them.

Thanks for this thread, I start today and I will try to do it 100 days.

Crazy dreams take crazy effort.

I'm on the fence, ha!

I'm just not sure about the water and selfie parts.

I'd rather do something that, besides being a part of the challenge, has a direct (positive) influence on my life - like meditation, waking up early or helping a stranger every day. I have so many things I'd like to change in my life, I feel like committing to drinking water will be a waste of my focus & energy.

Maybe you have already heard of this challenge - the 75 hard challenge by Andy Frisella who runs The MFCEO podcast (I think the top business podcast for over two years).

Basically, the rules are:

1) Strict Diet – No cheating, not even 1 bite, and No alcohol

2) Two Workouts* per Day – 1 has to be outside and both have to be at least 45 minutes

(*this can mean jogging, swimming, yoga - doesn't have to be gym)

3) Drink 1 Gallon of Water per Day – Nothing but clear, plain water counts

4) Read 10 Pager per Day – From a non-fiction self-help book or business book

5) Take a Progress Picture Every Day – So you can see the progress at the end

For 75 days with no days off.

While it might seem like a fitness challenge - it isn't. It is a discipline challenge.

Andy explains it fully here:

Let me say - it is harder than it looks. To do one day - easy. To not miss any days - very very hard.

First time I failed was cause I had a sugary drink on a date. I let a girl buy me a sugary Starbucks smoothie and wasn't being aware.

The second time (two days ago) I didn't do any reading cause I didn't have my day planned out 100%. I got sloppy with my time.

Is this challenge needed for you to be successful? Of course not.

But is it a great way to build some great habits, awareness, dedication, and discipline for those struggling with those things? 100%.

So if you feel like jumping in with me on this challenge post up.

Some additional rules:

- Don't modify any part of the challenge. This isn't a "well I did it this way" challenge. The rules are above and those are the rules.

- If you break ANY rules you go back to the start.

- Be true to yourself. The only person who gets anything out of this is YOU if you do it right. Pretending you did this won't help and will most likely hurt.

- No audiobooks ha. I still listen to them as I walk every day but Andy is clear that the 10 pages a day are to be read by you.

That is it:

Here are my past stats but I will consider today day one since I have to restart...

(started on the 23rd of May and failed twice since)

So who is in with me?
(or has already started)

I am in.

Starting tomorrow gulp.

As a chef I have desserts in my face all day.

Already struggle to hit my calorie intake without cheating with a hot chocolate or 2 a day to get over the hump.

This will be interesting.

Okay, I just listened to the podcast episode.
I'm in.

Tomorrow? Nah, I still can do it today (it's 3 p.m. now).

I do one extra meal a day (at least) and also one or two protein shakes.

Welcome abroad.
