Do not skip going to college. Most successful entrepreneurs went to college immediately after high school.
Going to college will give you access and exposure to a wide variety of jobs you may not have had access to.
Also, not everyone is cut out to be an entrepreneur. Its best to have a safety net in case your business doesnt work out.
You WILL die one day. You were not put on this planet to just sit on your a$$ and do nothing until you die. Life is not about not working, but working on things that get you excited, things you can be passionate about. The world is huge. You should never not be working. Even though Mj is retired, he's still working. Life is boring without progress.
There are no shortcuts in life. Go to college, get a degree, get a good paying job, and when you find an opportunity, jump on it.
You dont have to just be good at business. You can excel at everything: You can have excellent grades in school, excel in sports and hobbies, start a business, and have everything you want in life. There are many people who win in every aspect of life.
You don't have to be a millionaire to retire or have a fun, fuoffilling life.

Look at examples of highly successful entrepreneurs. Many of them were high achievers from a very young age.
Jeff Bezos was running a hedge fund at the age of 26 when he founded amazon. Peter Thiel , cofounder of PayPal and early investor of Facebook was a lawyer at the age of 23. They would have been successful without Amazon and Paypal respectively. Mark Zuckerberg, Steve Jobs and Bill Gates dropped out of college. They didnt just not go because they didnt feel like it, they dropped out because they knew their exact path and purpose and how they were going to impact the world. They had such an incredible drive and sense of urgency that they dropped out of school right away.Look at the Forbes 400. Most of them went to college with a few exceptions.
Working is better than doing nothing. You will not be young and healthy forever. If you are 18 reading this post, you only have 4383 days until you are 30. You dont have a second to waste. Every day, you should be studying, working, grinding and learning.
There are no shortcuts. To be wealthy, you have to work your a$$ off.
Dont start learning or working someday. Do it NOW. Any progress is better than doing nothing or thinking.
Even Kevin O'Leary shark tank entrepreneur who brags about not working for anyone after being fired from the ice cream shop credits a later internship with Nabisco that helped him achieve success with Softkey later down the line.

Never think, plan, or dream. Just start and start now.

Also, you are NOT better than anyone because you read The Millionaire Fastlane . Many people who read Mjs book end up becoming wantrepreneurs.

Anyway, if you want to be successful, be a high achiever and work your a$$ off at every aspect of your life. Anything you want in life can be achieved, but you have to go through the process. You have to work harder than anyone else. If you dont know what to do, its better to get a job than to do nothing. Any job is a good job because you get paid to learn.

Life is a big game! Enjoy your play time! You dont need to be rich ,successful, or an entrepreneur to be happy. Work your a$$ ff and be grateful for your life and every opportunity you have.

Even if college is not for you, you can always drop out and start again.

If you think about it, telling someone to go thousands in debt to learn outdated and easily available information to get a piece of paper that is mostly ignored by the market place is worst advice than telling someone to not go to college and try self-education.

If we try to put a numerical value as to the risk involved here. Going to college is riskier because of the tremendous leverage needed and the low probability of getting a return. Whereas self-education you only need time and effort and the payouts are actually better. If you do a mathematical model, you will see that this is true. Looking at it this way makes it easier to see which is a smart decision.

These statistics that college-lovers love to throw around have the problem of not distinguishing constants and assumptions. Big mistake.

Although we have discussed college here at the forum ad nauseam I actually don't mind because I always learn something new.

I see what you mean in regards to student loan debt and jobs. And yes , its very possible to be successful without it. But if you get a job that pays 100-200k a year, you can have that debt paid off very quickly. The time is going to pass anyway. Also, if you plan on becoming a millionaire or even billionaire, that debt wont seem like too much in the grand scheme of things. And you're right, college doesnt guarantee success. But it can definitely help expose you to the world if you dont know what to do.

Yeah true. But not everyone is gonna get those jobs. They are scarce and you still have to compete for it and sell yourself.

True. But when you are trying to be one it doesn't help to have all that debt.

But it can definitely help expose you to the world if you dont know what to do.

There are lots of better ways to learn about the world, like traveling, volunteering or getting a job out of high school.

I mean, we need college. Doctors and lawyers need to go to college. But the truth is that too many people are going to college. The vast majority of people will be perfectly fine without it.

I strongly disagree. A college degree os like a high school diploma nowadays. There was a time when one could get a job easily without a degree, but that's not the case anymore. A diploma is like a bare minimum now. Theres no reason to not go if you're not sure what to do

It's education, not necessarily college itself that one should always pursue. Education and schooling are two completely different things. Both Trades and Sales can be good money without a traditional 4 year degree. If my first business fails, I will highly consider going into one of those two fields as a backup plan. College is not the only option.

Wow! Wish it ended up for me after 2011 when I graduated. I think Millennials and Generation X, bot know a degree doesn't equal success or building real wealth, and I have no problem working hard. I even moved to a new location. What's wonderful about this, it depends on geographical location, what's available, forms of transportation, and how thick the competition is in the area. I believed in this for most of my life, because I kept hearing that from Baby Boomers in my life. And their Entrepreneurs, and own their own business. While the illusion was, my degree was financial freedom, and working for someone else, there advice was completely opposite of their actions. While they may have an education, thy failed to see themselves they weren't working for other people, they were providing a service, solving a problem, and adding valuable to the community. People worked under them, and of course they're not really thinking about how everything works, they just take action every day, and forget everyone doesn't run a business and treat it like it's a regular job.

I think i get the point of what your trying to say...it just came out really bad.

Youre saying: high school graduates should not decide to skip college just because they want to be an entrepreneur. They can come across opportunities they wouldn't have otherwise, and get paid to learn certain skills. Better than sitting around "wantrepreneuring" all day.

There's a whole lot of junk in that post you didn't need. Hope you don't write like that to sell your products :)

Its best to have a safety net

You WILL die one day. You were not put on this planet to just sit on your a$$ and do nothing until you die. Life is not about not working, but working on things that get you excited, things you can be passionate about.

You should never not be working.

There are no shortcuts in life.

so much crap here. Why did you create an account again?

@halmerej I couldn't read the entire post because ... it didn't make sense.

It felt like you were supporting going to university and then halfway through, you then stated to pursue your dreams and then ... posted a video of Mark Zuckerberg who in his first line stated, "I am not a role model for those that are pursuing a degree!"

In my honest opinion, you will not find a lot of supporters for a university education on this forum. If it has a specific purpose for an individual then it may have merit. If a person can get a specific trade or useable skill from their degree, then it will have merit.

On the flip side, if a person takes a worthless degree for the sake of pursuing their passion and ends up in a dead-end job with a large amount of debt ... it does not have merit.

I am a huge supporter of education for life and there is a wealth of it that you can find through networking, books, the internet, etc. I have a university degree and although I had some great years, I rarely use those skills in the real world.

My recommendation would be to sit back for awhile and read more of the forum. Get an idea of who you are communicating with through this medium.

Didn't you finish college?

Yes I did, which is why when I think logically about your post it makes no sense. Don't you see it?

This is what you wrote "If you are 18 reading this post, you only have 4383 days until you are 30. You dont have a second to waste. Every day, you should be studying, working, grinding and learning."

And then you go on to say that you should go to college. Some folks can do all of this without paying for it or sitting in a classroom. If you can't see that, then you really don't know what you are talking about.

No doubt, college isnt for everyone. But
going to college can open many doors that may have been otherwise closed.
It may not be popular opinion, but I highly suggest finishing college quickly, then becoming an entrepreneur. If you know what you want to do, you can always drop out then come back if it doesnt work. If you dont, then you can work a job to learn more about an industry or business and/or find an unmet need.
Im saying that you dont need to choose between going to college, working a job, and being an entrepreneur. You can do all three and still be happy and successful and can quit any of those options at any point.
College is not bad. Working a job is not bad. And you're free to quit at any point
