Im 20, Back in 2020during my high school years, my father started our small dairy business. Every evening after school, I used to deliver milk to around 60 houses. After I graduated, like in many families, the question of college came up. But I decided to take a year off to prepare for design entrance exams through online coaching.
My goal wasn’t just to study — I also wanted to stay close to the business and help it grow. Slowly, I expanded our reach from 60 to over 200 houses and brought in two delivery partners to manage the routes.
But we began to face challenges — especially around managing money and operations. Most of the income went toward family expenses like medical bills and my sister’s tuition fees. Since my father was handling the money, I didn’t have much control over the cash flow. I tried to keep track, but it wasn’t enough.
At the same time, I couldn’t score high enough in my design entrance exams, which meant missing out on admissions. That was a heavy blow — it felt like everything was slipping at once.
The financial strain started showing in the business. Our cows needed to be replaced, and customer management, supply coordination, and delivery logistics became harder and more stressful. I was trying to juggle everything, but some days, it just felt like too much.
Now, after all the hustle and lessons, I’ve decided to join a college nearby and pursue a degree in psychology. Honestly, I chose this path for a few reasons. At home, the constant stress — daily scoldings, arguments, and a distracting environment — made it almost impossible to focus or build anything with consistency. I needed a space where I could think, learn, and grow.
At the same time, through my work as a delivery boy, I’ve been deeply connected with people — seeing their moods, emotions, and stories up close. That made me realize how important it is to understand human behavior. I found a deep purpose in it. Psychology started feeling like more than just a subject — it became a way to explore human minds, including my own.
Even though some of my family — especially my mother — feel I shouldn’t take on so much responsibility, I know the path I’ve walked and the track I’ve built. I don’t want to lose that. That’s why I chose psychology at a nearby college — so I can stay involved with the business, especially on weekends, while also studying.
Was it a better decision or not — I don’t know.
But I had to choose something. Something that gives me hope, growth, and space to breathe.
And now, I’m asking for advice:
What skills should I focus on developing in the coming days?
What should I learn — both for my studies and for growing as a person and entrepreneur?
How can I make the most of my college life while still holding on to the foundation I’ve built with my family business?
If you’ve been through something similar, or have some words of guidance — I’d truly love to hear from you.
