hello everyone.

My name is Jordy. I am 23 and have read the The Millionaire Fastlane and listened to all of unscripted on audible.

This is a promise to me. That in 2 years I will have 1 million dollars. There are principles to follow that are under the layer of these books I've read from MJ. but I don't have the knowledge YET to put it into words. my goal this week is to find these underlying principles.

I've had 11 jobs in my life. I joined the Marine Corp 3 years ago still currently in for reserves. I've learned leadership skills and as well as mastering how to be able to follow. My biggest life lesson I've had currently is that I cannot learn fully if I am always thinking I know the subject. The brain is like a parachute, it does not work if it isn't open. I've had great leaders and shitty leaders. I will also find the principles of great leadership as well as being a genuine authentic self. I am knowledgeable in being motivated and being disciplined but getting rich has been a new ballgame. I'm learning so much from everyone in this forum. I'm truly grateful for this community.

I will keep everyone updated on my progress every Monday.

So far as stupid as it sounds these principles are the ones i can think of.
1. The intentions and goals will show through your actions. Be authentic and genuine
2. Have the passion and end goal be to help others in a kind manner.
3. Not working a 9-5 job. having the discomfort and pressure that if the business you want doesn't go up and run. you WILL STAY BROKE.

let me know what you think. I would love to brainstorm new principles.

My current status: I don't have a job and trying to find freelancing work but not sure where I should start. I just want to start something to stay afloat. I am currently renting out my car on Turo making 500-750 a month if demand is high. if the car doesn't go up then I will do uber. while the car is up for rent. I am studying and reading books. and going on this forum to see how to get or give help.
Plan A: I'm looking into a freelancing job. and do more online marketing. (Where could I learn to do marketing?)
Plan B: Work on a bigger project expecting a bigger payout. Task is to make a company focusing on a deep cleaning kitchen and hire others to do the job.

I would love your feedback in anything I can do to be more effective and reach the GOAL.

A little late. seems as if i put this goal on hold. i went to spend some time with a loved one for a couple of days. and wanted some clarity.
I've been getting into reading and been hoping to get new information from these books. this week I will focus on buying a new house with my loved one. to get a 3-4 unit apartment, look and start for a somewhat of an income like job and also side hustle.

In your situation stability of income is important, but thinking about what painful problem you are going to solve can be done in parallel to other tasks you need to do.

Goodafternoon,

it is Monday again. I have been thinking of applying to CVS or a job close by to have income in.

lessons this week: I do deserve to be a leader and also confidence in knowing that everyone doesn't know what the F*ck they're doing either.

I'm just not sure where to start (financially) but I remember @Practic telling me to do other task in parallel to other situations, I took it as find things that I don't have yet experience and learning and searching; that is vertical. things that i do know and able to apply to my life now and use to my advantage; that is horizontal. The graph of effective growth? I should work on that.

I read something about reading books was a slowlane proccess or coming up with ideas but not executing was slow? what would be the fastlane process to learning a skill or executing?

Finance: im F*cking broke, negative in my bank right now

fitness: pretty average, felt ashamed looking in the mirror. but i know i can put some work in.

income: Turo renting out my car

One thing lately ive been hearing is that if your at the bottom, the only way is up.

Constructive criticism
Let's unpack this!
  • You started this thread 2 weeks ago making an audacious goal of making $1M in 2 years with no money, no plan, no direction. That's infinite growth from where you are today. Reasonable goal?
  • You said you'd update the thread every Monday and didn't last 1 week. Then you made some excuse to yourself about why you didn't post on time. Not a good start.
  • You noted a principle of "Not working a 9-5 job". 2 weeks later here you are thinking of applying to slow lane job #12.
  • You're coming off as entitled a**hole by saying that you 'deserve' to be a leader; like the world owes you something at 23. Thank you for your service and F*ck no it doesn't; not as a leader, or anything else.
You are not unique. This site is riddled with threads from people just like you. People who read the book, got all excited and prematurely blew their load on a single thread or sometimes a single post and faded into oblivion.

This is not the way to become successful.

Reread the book again. You've missed a lot of value. @Robdavis is pointing you to a solid thread. Read that too and other 'high value topics' on the forum.

Then slow your roll and set some goals with an actionable plan behind them. Try MJ's 1/5/10 technique or anything else that works for you. It's a marathon, not a F*cking sprint. Make a plan. Get prepared. Start training for it. Then run the race.

When you don't know much, you have to educate yourself. Reading isn't a wealth building strategy. It's its own exercise and is neither fast lane or slow lane. The problem comes when all you do is read. At some point, you've read enough and you need to put your learning to action.

The opposite is also true; you can act without knowing shit and you're destined to learn the hard way (ie failure); which is your current path. You can still learn that way, but it takes a lot more time, money and determination; which is why most people, like you who come before unzipping, give up just as fast.

Good luck!

You are on the right track!

About parallel thinking:
Search for painful problems businesses (or consumers) have and how you can help to solve them.
Concentrate on problems, for solutions you can ask on this or other forums. Good Luck!

I will definitely take all of this into consideration. I don't agree entirely on all of it and i could debate all day about this, but I'll start off with writing some goals and finding some direction. I will definitely start with mj Demarcos 1/5/10.

I promise you one thing, I'm here for the long run. persistence is my middle name :)

Ask local businesses if they have similar problems, do they feel a pain and have a need to find solutions? Think about this for some time.

Is it an attractive goal to you to help such people by offering solutions to the problems?

Good afternoon, good old Monday! I love doing this. I feel as if there's pressure and a sense of urgency to get up every Monday and find success. i don't want to let you guys down :(

so, I started to find direction and actionable goals. By making the 1/5/10 and reading through some of the forums and reviewing them.
Step 1: I know if I have a skill then I can use it and help others. I'm a bartender so I'll go to catering events and make enough to pay my bills and have money to actually survive.
step 2: learn how to DJ. I'm an outgoing person and I can read the room so when the right music should /shouldn't be playing.
step 3: (build an app while working step1,2) I've always wanted to help society to understand each other and connect to another level. I've seen social media hasn't been so social so i would love to bring an experience to be able to have fun, connect more often, and learn how to be socially confident as well, i would love to create an app to better connect and making new friends. it seems hard to connect with others and there hasn't really been an app that's simple, fun, and innovative to meet local friends or international.
step 4: be able to own property and see how to take advantage of owning property.

There are of course more sub steps in between, but that's the big plan and its subject to change.
new principle: Adapt to the situation, if the situation requires you to work and make some income then work. Do not be too prideful of your current identity, be water my friend.

Finance: still broke. but have an effective goal/ income coming in less then 2 weeks.
fitness: i am staying disciplined with my workouts and able to see that i am getting stronger and able to run longer.
income: none.

lessons: The mind has to be fluid and able to absorb the positive in the negative. When a person tells me I'm wrong i have to be open to that idea and take in what can i do to become better. even if the guy is an a*shole.

goals: get 10% closer next monday to reaching these steps.

Thank you. if you guys have any input. please let me know.:)

Hey, new here, I'm going to reread your post as it provides massive value. Being 23 myself as well, I also have this tendency to start sprinting really hard. Trying to build a really useful business in 1 - 2 years, having no clue where to start etc. Perhaps I should shift my mind to sustaining my life financially whilst learning and growing my skillset. Truth be told, no clue what skills to focus on first. Either way thanks, definitely going to reread the book.

Good afternoon, I Started to really push it this week and found out how discipline works. I thought when your body starts to give up, you should give up as well. I mean even with scientific research. its impressive how the mind can make positive feedback loop with bad habits.
literally look at a situation like a brick wall. don't stop, climb the f*cking wall. ask people to help get over the wall. Find whatever to help you get over the wall, even when you're sick, tired, or "not feeling it today". That is the most important Day You should go and at least show up and try. This wall can Literally be ANY situation. If you have time to look and waste time on your phone/TV/Netflix/Being in bed. You have time to work out, study, learn, I Have realized Time is limited. My brain has also realized it and I can't waste it ANYMORE. God has made us to be incredible and absolutely amazing and he test us every day with temptation, not to get religious but this is the only way i can wrap my head around this.
Had to drop an inspirational BOMB on you mf :)
Anyways, Im becoming a bartender at this restaurant. able to make steady cash. I would love to learn how to code so i could use those skills and make a side hustle while working on my app.
also goals this week are to
finish making my app and find a cofounder,
Finish reading TMF ,
Run 16 miles in total
increase weightlifting by 5%
Call a random family member every other day

I'm really enjoying seeing progress. I'm not rich but this is the Greatest feeling have ever felt and accomplished with my life.
If I die tomorrow, I can at least say I was living and aiming for my dreams. Thank you, all fast Laners!

have a great week!
My favorite quote this week.
"Your life is the sum result of all your choices, both conscious and unconscious. if you control how to choose. you take control of everything in your life. you can find the freedom that comes with being in charge of yourself. -Robert F Bennett

Well done on making progress in the past week.
Can I ask you a question?
You are renting out your car on Turo. Are you making more money from renting out your car on Turo than it would cost you to buy the equivalent car?
In other words, have you actually got a car hire business that you haven't realised that you have got? If so, could you afford to buy a second car and then rent that out on Turo as well?

Thank you, brother
if it got rented out every day through the month then i would technically be making almost double the monthly price of the vehicle, but the market is so packed with everyone else having that gameplan, I don't see myself making a business being beneficial. if only i could do something different that people would want the car every month and pay more or something entirely different. hm Idea juice flowing.

Would it be worth looking at your marketing to try to increase the amount of rentals your vehicle gets? Alternatively, I'm assuming that when you bought the vehicle you bought the car that you wanted rather than the car most likely to rent well, in that case it might make sense to change your car for a model that might rent the best in your local market assuming that is different to what you currently own.
It may just be a bad idea, but since you're already doing it, it might be worth spending a bit of time to see if you got an opportunity there.
The other option is if Turo is causing rental prices to collapse and make it difficult to make money renting cars then see if you can provide service to Turo sellers. So either offer them car cleaning / car detailing services or for example they may need delivery / collection services to move cars between the owners and the renters or something like that.

Good evening, Everyone,

Holy moly, its been a very busy week.

So I finished my mock up APP, now i just need move forward with it myself and/or find a cofounder. I am trying to find ways to show if it will be fun/effective for everyone to this week, i will focus on that. if market demands it.

Physical: I blasted through my heavy lifting training goals, im lifting almost 50% more than last week, AM i Greek god?
I was able to run 17 miles this week.

Reading the book again really has opened my eyes instead of looking at it as "oh me me me", i had the mindset of" how can i use this knowledge into an amazing product, service."

So since I'm in the marine corps and I know how to lead and as well offer life advise on mental physical and spiritual, i Decided that i would go to my social media and start to help other people, make them a game plan for the month, and make zoom calls for everyone once a week, and charge 20$ a month. not alot but i will automate it somehow and make it easier to make others join and satisfying as well. ( This has been the most challenging/fun ive ever had.)

Im sorta nervous, and been feeling " where should i go from here " emotions since theres so much. i absolutely love it.

Goals this week:
How to meet likeminded people and i will go and meet them.
find a cofounder.
Have 10 people join my program.
adjust my program for what the market demands!
stay at a consistent reps in my workouts and gain endurance heavy lifting.
run 21 miles by monday.
learn photoshop and web design.
learn market economics.
Learn communication skills to talk to more people.
Make content following certain values and put my name out there.
Make a fivver account helping others.
Make discipline my middle name.

Favorite quote this week:
"The world tells you which direction you should be going at all times, heed the signs." MJ DeMarco
i kept asking the universe, what do you want me to learn right now, how can i take advantage of this situation, how can i help these people around me. and then when i couldnt come up with anything, i stayed consistent with my work. and i found it.

if you guys have any questions or comments. i am here.
I am very grateful. Happy new year's everyone. This will be the year.

Goodmorning everyone.
this past week has been very different, I will focus more on studying and learning this week. about sales and going out more and getting my name out there, connecting with likeminded people.
The goals are still the same.
not very satisfied with this past week.

i heard from a video from Alex Hormozi, that being burnt out isnt a thing, its weakness and lazy, and also people around you are telling you to slow down, and want the best for you, it isn't necessarily the best for YOU but them. people align their goals and beliefs to theirs, but your goals and beliefs are MUCH higher than theirs. you are not at the same level with these other people, you are on the moon aiming for the stars. They are stuck on earth playing with the grass. not a bad thing but know the difference.

I feel anxious, thinking about how much more i could've done. but this week i will conquer.

question: IF you are surrounded by family friends, or relationship. that are not on the same level with you,
what have you done to still be driven but NOT be influenced by their motives that are not the same goal as yours?

Thanks everyone.

I appreciate the changes you've made since starting this thread. But why did you start this progress thread to begin with? If I were go guess I'd say the point of this progress thread is to:
  1. have a sense of accountability for your goals,
  2. document the process to provide value to those who may follow in your footsteps WHEN you become successful, and
  3. open yourself to guidance, support, and criticism to help you on your journey.
These all tie in together.

1) Accountability:
You've listed your weekly goals but you haven't posted your success or failures on those goals and the reasons behind them. I understand that you don't feel like you've accomplished much this week and are disappointed with your progress. Why is the question. Be accountable and document what went well and what didn't. It will benefit you and others that follow. Address each goal individually and in aggregate. Were there too many goals? Too ambitious? Did you lack focus? Was there more to the goal than you originally expected which led to creating smaller goals first? For instance, "Learn photoshop and web design" can't be done in a week. You can start. You can find helpful resources to learn from. But you can't learn it in a week. So it's completely understandable that you wouldn't accomplish this goal. What's the real goal here?

To help stay on track I'd recommend that you work to prioritize your weekly goals and ensure they tie back to the overall goals in your 1/5/10 plan. Even getting some smaller goals completed each day will help you to feel more accomplished and consistent. Using MJ's PDF daily planner with the 1/5/10 may help you plan and execute those daily goals and stay on track. Or try @LightHouse GSD method. Whatever works for you.

b) Document your progress
Documenting your progress will help you in understanding where you need to improve. It will point out your blind spots and patterns you fall into that are hurting your progress. Yes, you will feel vulnerable because you will be open to criticism and that's all part of growing. We're all still growing, learning and can take value from others who have experienced things before we did. It's all constructive. So it's not entirely about documenting it for others, it's for yourself too. If you're feeling too vulnerable doing it in the thread, then do it offline and for yourself. The point is to document it for you to see your patterns and grow from them.

b) Guidance
This can only come from documenting and sharing your progress or questions. See how these 3 things tie together?
We all view life through our own lens that's formed from our life experiences. Nobody will ever experience life in the same way as another person. Our entire life is unique only to us. So when Hormozi is talking about people who want what's best 'for them' it's really what they think is best for you through their lens on life; from their frame of reference. We all want different things, and that's ok.

You asked:
IF you are surrounded by family friends, or relationship. that are not on the same level with you,
what have you done to still be driven but NOT be influenced by their motives that are not the same goal as yours?"
But you already know the answer. It was one of your goals from the prior week that you didn't accomplish.
meet likeminded people and i will go and meet them.
Have a group of like-minded people to provide that influence you're not getting elsewhere. You don't need to abandon the friends and family around you because they don't think the same as you, but you need to have the constitution to be firm in what you believe and continue to follow the path that's right for you.

This is the EXACT reason why I came back to he forum and why I'm making changes in my own life. I was on the forum for a while and when I first started having some success I got so head-down working on becoming successful that when I stopped, I saw I was surrounded by people in the slow lane. My network didn't grown and I abandoned some relationships I made here. That is my error and I own that. I woke up and realized that I needed more inspiration in my life. I wanted to surround myself with more creative thinkers, value seekers and people who could inspire me to live up to my potential. I still don't think I have a lot of value to contribute back (likely my imposter syndrome contributing to that thought) but I'm sure that someone, somewhere could get some value from my experiences.

I don't agree entirely on all of it and i could debate all day about this
I do agree with everything @LateStarter said in that comment and I would suggest you take the advice very seriously.

In addition to that, you keep saying that you are a leader / should deserve to be a leader.
Nothing in this thread is indicative of good leadership.

  • You lack self awareness.
  • The goals are not clear, nor quantifiable (e.g. "make discipline my middle name this week")
  • The strategy is not clear either.
  • Your actions appear to be chaotic and you jump from one idea to another.

And so you've decided that it's time to help other people get their life together?!

So since I'm in the marine corps and I know how to lead and as well offer life advise on mental physical and spiritual, i Decided that i would go to my social media and start to help other people, make them a game plan for the month

I guess this is the business of self-improvement.
Become successful by "teaching others" how to become successful.

Look.
There is nothing wrong with being wrong. Very few people have life skills and wisdom in their early 20s (I was definitely not one of them). But what separates winners from the rest of the people is the ability to self-reflect on their behavior and adapt their mindset and actions in order to become progressively more effective at turning their ideas into reality.

I would suggest taking a few steps back and re-evaluating the whole situation.
Fewer goals, simpler strategy, better adherence and consistency, less ego, more work, better weekly analysis.

Good luck.

Good luck!

This is essentially the post I wrote in my head reading the OP! Lands well @LateStarter (found this via your tag)

The idea of giving other people advice because you learned something in the Marines is crazy AF, you'll be fleecing people as desperate as you are and that's not where you want to be morally or ethically.

My advice not knowing you.... Go get a job in sales for something that can make you a decent income.

You'll learn real discipline and work ethic if you make it, and if you don't make it, it'll expose the very reason why.

You can solve most of your problems you presented by learning how to sell, then going out and doing it non stop until you quit spinning circles.

Good luck.

and thank you I have not thought about this. I will implement this. being honest to myself with these goals are a missing piece of puzzle.

Much appreciated, the goals are very broad when i put into this format just for viewing's sake, but of course theres more steps to it that i have offline. and of course, the " make discipline my middle name" was a joke / not a joke. no more jokes from here on out  . thank you for the advice and i will most definitely make a better weekly analysis. and with simpler goals. ( i dont believe im being egocentric in a negative manner, i think its called *confidence*)

That would be a great opportunity, there are many out there.

No one on here is being harsh by the way. We are just being real and honest with you. This is a business forum and a lot of folks here have been through and seen a lot.

We all want you and anyone else to succeed, and we want you to not hold yourself back on that either. It takes a lot of humility to take those pieces of advice to heart and improve. If you adopt a mindset like that, you can't lose. Just make sure it's coming from the right people.

You also aren't afforded anything in this life without working your butt off for it. If you want to lead people, it'll have nothing to do about you. In fact most in leadership don't want more responsibility, they want less.

Use that work ethic you found in the marines to your advantage, if you aren't starting your day with P/T... what would your CO say about that? (i might be off on the terms here, but I imagine you know what I mean otherwise!)
