Currently in highschool and haven't learned a thing in the last 2-3 years of school, except for math. I originally wanted to get a computer science degree, which could lead to the fast lane as I could use programming for business but I'd prefer not to. I'm stuck in between wanting to start a business, and constantly needing to keep up with assignments, everyone telling me I need to get good grades, go to a good university, get a job. But of course none of them are happy with their work life. Average salary, and if it is a high salary it's 9-5 and they waste so much time. I'm also constantly being tempted by friends to play video games and the whole time I play video games I'm just thinking of how I could be researching business and getting started with one.

If I focus on school I'm subscribing to the slowlane with some time for fastlane. If I focus on business and I keep failing I might end up jobless.

My biggest worry is the risk of the fastlane, and yes I know the book says its just as risky as the slowlane, but barely having an income with the chance of being unable to support my future family scares me.

Should I focus on getting great grades and business or just one? Business is quite unknown to me right now, but I'll be starting SMMA soon after exams are over to try to learn and also hopefully make money.

Get a job. If you are learning nothing in school, a weekend job will teach you infinitely more. It can help you develop skills, earn commission, teach you about an industry.

There is no such thing as ”starting a business” unless by that you mean ”solving a problem” and thereby fulfilling the needs of customers, who in turn pay you.

The fact that society pushes ”slowlane” can be perfect for you, when you realize it limits competition in the fastlane. When everyone wants a job, you can be the one to provide it. There’s a lot of competent and diligent workers you can hire in the future. It may serve you well to understand this labor market.

You're still young, you can try heaps of things and then fail and then try things out again, repeat. That's your advantage!

I vote start a local service business and grow it. You’ll learn more about dealing with customers, effective marketing, book keeping, strategy, resource allocation and business in general than you ever will in college. (I have a business degree.)

There’s a chance, if you start now, you’ll be able to learn how it’s actually done for free instead of paying for some professor to tell you how to do it “in theory.”

Don’t be a loser. Graduate high school. Just do both.

start by giving yourself some credit. constantly beating yourself up and fomo of what could or might be is wasted effort.
at the end of each day, write down something you learned. then leave it there and move on.
each day is a OPPORTUNITY.

AND you don't HAVE to make the most of it every single day. live AND accomplish AND be happy about your progress, even when small.

tldr; get out of your own head and go experience life and DO.

Lucky for you, you have your own brain! Use it.

Finish your high school, learn to get good grades (yes, that’s an actual skill), start side hustles and just keep going.

Like @Kak said, act like a winner. Don’t be a loser who quits school only to later quit business too (for the same reasons, lol). Learning is forever. Let that sink in. Forever…

Good luck.
