I notice a few members who never built a site before so i wrote the following simple tutorial. I also did some shameless self promotion to proove a point with the tutorial. If it is against any rules here moderators feel free to remove the links.
First and foremost i want to say Congrats for taking the initiative to purchase a domain and start your venture into building a profitable business online.
So you just purchased your domain and now you are probally brainstorming ideas to make it the biggest and baddest website in the world right? You are probally already looking for ways to monetize it and where to place ads cause you heard adsense was the shizzy. You then go on your adventure to visit blogs and forums on generating revenue and traffic from the web experts because your addiction to new found knowledge.
Theres only one issue here!!! Your site is not even up yet...
Get something up now and fast...
Yesterday i purchased Twinrockets.com and ill give myself 2 days to get something up with at least 1 page of content. Currently right now it has nothing but before the day ill get something up.
If you dont get something up the chances of you starting another project is probally 75%. Youll always find a better or easier idea. Have a look at how many domain an avg webmaster owns and you will see what i mean.
Since i dont want to get in over my head and just wanted to get something up my weapon of choice was wordpress. It also automatically submits your site to google and techorati once installed. Even if i was going to build a totally custom project for this site i want to get something up to tell google my site is coming soon please come back and check on me. You can even just build a simple 1 page html page that says your page title and put a coming soon text.
After i install the wordpress and and get a paragraph of content up ill run over to google and msn to add my newly created website to get spidered.

So now if im lazy or not it doesnt matter since the site is already submitted to get spidered.
Since i decided to go with a brandable domain name i also head on over to twitter to setup an account before someone else takes it.
Not everyone needs a twitter account, facebook, and myspace account. If you are building a brand you will need to incorporate that but if your building a blog on dog food reviews theres no need for a twitter account or facebook fan page so dont waste your time.
If you have some extra time visit a few blogs and make some comments. You can also visit 1 or 2 targetted forums and place a link in your signature. Be sure to provide high quality comments and forum posts since we dont want to spam here.
This takes less than a hour and the next time you decide to work on the site you will be way ahead and save alot of extra time sinc e your site should be in theory already spidered and showing up on google.
