If so, what games have you been playing lately?

ALSO, I'm acutely aware a lot of people here get weirdly vocal about games and how tHeY jUsT wAsTe tImE and aNy gOoD eNtRePrEnEuR sHoUlD oNlY fOcUs oN wOrK. This thread ain't for you. Please spare me the sigma nonsense.

I only ask because a good friend-turned-client of mine who I met through playing video games together mentioned how great it is to find someone of similar age and interests who also owns their own business so.. we can't be the only two people. And now I'm curious.

People who say they work all the time are full of shit. The guys who do work hard don't have to brag about it on Instagram.

Personally, I don't play any games for now. I've only played a little bit of Monopoly last year(like 2x-3x probably).

I'm not a native english speaker but I've learned a lot of english from playing video games when I was younger; particularly from games like the Need For Speed franchise, ROBLOX, LEGO games and GTA V. They're very helpful when it comes to learning a new language! It's a lot of fun too.

ROBLOX used to be a lot of fun. Learned a good amount of Lua and I'm sure it increased my creativity too from building and sculpting models on Roblox Studio. Minecraft can be good too. Especially if you're a builder type of entrepreneur; guys who love the process of building stuff from ground one.

But again, video games have to be treated diligently. You have to control THEM, and not let video games control you. Things can get out of wack if you let them take over your priorities. Playing a video game every once in a while is not gonna hurt you if you got priorities and work on your life.

It's just like the same thing with how porn/sex works with your dopamine in a way. Too much of it is not good at all.

Rhode Island for now.
I was into games as a kid. Haven't played any in... ~15 years.

That said, I do add some random game to my phone every 6 months or so, when I get burned out.
I've been working 12 hours a day/7days a week since September.

I didn't work yesterday. Just, brain fried. Need a few days.
So, I downloaded some train game for my phone.

And, it's great.
I imagine I'll do it for 15-20 hours, and then go back to real life.
But, for now, I get it....

I also have a big network of people expert in just about anything because we bonded over the games, which helps me as a writer. Whenever I need expert information, I can turn to my gaming friends and ask a couple of questions.
Some people here might not believe it, but networking with fellow gamers can lead to all sorts of opportunities. More often than not, it doesn't because you can obviously get too much into the gaming thing. But I've met a couple of entrepreneurs (even ex-pro gamers reconverted into other things) and I was about to speak to one of them to suggest a business partnership to make use of his domain expertise and my software development skills.

Used to play Ninja Gaiden Black (and the two sequels after that) and Street Fighter 4.
Spent entire days after entire days pressing the controller......

The last time I touched games was like 2014 lol

Ooo, what's your favorite nation to play as? It's been a minute since I've played any Civ games.. much more into Paradox grand strategy games like Hearts of Iron and Crusader Kings lately.
I like to play as Sumeria and put the game on domination victory only. Have shifted around though and tried other leaders but Gilgamesh is definitely my favorite.

I play CSGO but it has turned into a very unhealthy habit. I've spent (want to say wasted*) a lot of time trying to learn it and by learn it I mean stuff like smoke lineups etc. It's silly... but if you want to be at least somewhat ok-ish at it you need to know that stuff.

I didn't say "wasted" before because back in the day I used to run a CS server along with a community website for it. Thanks to that, I learned to program which is a really handy skill nowadays.

Think now I'm just trying to relive being younger and good at the game as I once was but that time has passed... :)

LOL That is exactly how I view California.
If so, what games have you been playing lately?
I tend to play on my phone, simple games. I appreciate the unique ones, like humbug. I get bored if I see similarities between other games I played. Not to much into fighting (so many of them) games nor do I know the lingo on how to talk about all the different type of games. Yet. I still see my self spending a part of my life exploring/discovering and what not. May be when I am older. In my last job (ugh) I gave to much to that company and now I am burned out.
Hopefully not for to much longer.

The kids got me playing Giant Paintball on Roblox. I stayed up late a few nights to level up so I could surprise them with better weapons (and general sneakiness) at the weekend. We’ve not played for a few months but it was great fun playing with and against them.

Lately the little monkeys got me playing 2048 Game - Play 2048 Game Online that they play at school occasionally. I’ve got to 2048 now so have bored of it.

I recently got the Oculus Quest 2 and been playing Golf+.

I’m shocked at how much it feels like real golf. It’s actually very satisfying to sink a long putt. Me and my friends play a round regularly at night.

I mainly play GTA 5 and Fortnite with mates from high school but I'm starting to notice how much time it drains up even more so with a full-time job, which is why I'm trying to taper down a little bit.

I don't play in the same way I did previously, but if I still have time, I like to play Battlefield to CoD that doesen't require commitment such as my long time favourite, World of Warcraft.

I have a full-time job as a digital marketer and my business is a website, so playing behind the screen is just too much screen...

I'm hoping that when I have my business rolling good and have quit my job, then I can play again a bit more!

PS. I'm not a native English speaker and without gaming, I never could have started my website targeting English speakers.

I love video games but the ones I play are the offline ones, Patapon 3, Pokemon Emerald, Civilization 3 (because it doesn't have annoying updates) and Warcraft 3. I only play the offline ones because I decide when to play and not the game. Online games have these events that says you should play and offline games just are more fun for me.

I got back to Red Dead Redemption 2 and will continue to play the story.

Back in the day i was a cod kid :D all day long, i played that shit. But nowadays, it's too hectic for me

As long as you're not a video game addict, playing games is very healthy and can be very educative as well.

I used to play a lot of video games when I was younger and they definitely shaped me as a person. I haven't played in the last years, but I'm looking forward to integrating them once again in my life (1-2 hours a day after work), because I really believe that they have huge benefits.

We (and all mammals) have a dedicated area in our brain that handles all playing related behavior, so there must be something good about it.

There's this game called Kenshi. Developed by a security guard in 12 years. Straight masterpiece. One of the best games I have ever played. Had to uninstall after playing 54 hours because it was time consuming.

I've played a shit ton of games. There is absolutely no way to fit them all in a single post.

However, by far the most memorable ones are:

Fallout 3, New Vegas (the latter being a masterpiece in my eyes)
Skyrim
Assassin's creed 1, 2, Brotherhood, Revelations, Black Flag
Mass Effect 1,2, and 3
GTA: Vice City, San Andreas, IV
Commander Keen 1
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
RuneScape (2007~2010)

Misc:

DX-Ball
Superstar Chefs
Soldat
Revolt
Club Penguin
Metal Slug
Doom
Worms: Armageddon
Need For Speed

Competitive games:

League of Legends (was a Challenger player)
CS:GO (was a Supreme player)
War Thunder (about 10 years ago when there were just planes)

Currently sim racing on the rFactor 2, Asseto Corsa simulators and setting world record hot laps here and there. They've helped me to transition rapidly into real life racing.

I love games. I love how they've allowed me to experience being someone else, somewhere else.

And finally, I love winning in games.

I don't know how, but I somehow linked MASSIVE pain and fomo to playing video games and I can go weeks without logging into steam. I think I played ready or not recently on a reccomendation, it was actually a lot of what I missed from playing videogames (slow, meticulous) but I managed to put it down and haven't gone back ...Still working to do this level of disavowal with other non-essential habits though haha

I can't find the tweet, but someone on twitter had a semi-viral saying that playing video games is an exact equivalent to having an "opium den" phase in your life. The time is spent, and you will never get anything back or damn little to show for it.

The last but one was Duke Nukem 3D. Played it through once till the end. Never touched again.
And when A customer of a friend started world of tanks, I tried it once.
Highly suggest you check out Ion Fury, it's spiritual successor.
One of the best retro-FPS to come out in the past few years and done up in the same engine Duke3D was.

Hard disagree on that take from me. The biggest reason why I earn money and am good at what I do is because of a game.

I used to play Ragnarok Online sometimes up to 18 hours/day. But I have to say, it was one of the best times of my life. So many friendships were formed, and it helped me grow as a person.

Now I play some Magic The Gathering: Arena a few times per week to decompress.

And once a week I meet up with a friend who lives in another country and we play Worms. Blasting little earthworms never gets old.

Haven't played in a while but was getting into Zelda: BOTW and Smash Bros. I find myself playing it if I get a sudden urge or if my friends wanna hop in on a multiplayer, I'll do it. Otherwise, I'd rather read a fantasy book if I want to escape for a little while.

I play Fifa as my chill. I dont really watch much TV, so it's my destress.

Actually, Im in the older more mature bracket compared to most people who play Fifa. Im 45. During the first lock-down I decided to start a Fifa group on Facebook for people who play and are more mature. Its grown into a real solid community of around 1,000 and we are having our first real life meet up next month.

Wait, you're telling me there's a Challenger on the Fastlane forum? How? The time and mental capital it takes to get to that rank would be too much, how did you have any left for your business?

I didn't have a business at the time but I'm sure I could still do it now, 2.5 years after quitting. I could just play 1-2 games per day for 30 minutes on average.

I was reading yesterday about stress caused by video games (online, competitive ones such as MOBAs, RTSs, shooters). Has anyone noticed any kind of health issues, even if small? I read about a few folks with things such as IBS having to stay away from certain games that make the problems worse. I read about a few pros quitting too because stress was giving them all sorts of problems (Uzi, LoL pro gamer, had to quit as he developed type-2 diabetes, among other things Gaming 'hero' retires at 23 due to ill-health).

Off the top of my head:

- Inflammation due to higher cortisol from the stress and intensity of those games can lead to all kinds of autoimmune problems

- Blood pressure goes WAY up in a competitive video game

Ever noticed how playing fully focused and competitive for hours on end causes your face and ears to go red and feel hot? It's your blood pressure shooting off into the sky. I know because I've measured it and mine is always perfect whenever I'm just hanging around doing nothing.

But after during/after an intense gaming session? It goes very high.

Anyway, I don't think this is such a huge issue as long as you counteract the effects by walking, working out, sleeping regularly, eating healthy, etc.
