Intro Information

They say the more projects you have going on, the more your quality drops. I disagree. My current situation is a bit wonky, but I am taking full advantage of it. Lately, we've had an influx of new members, which is fantastic. In this thread, I will be documenting and listing every process and step I take. Even if this doesn't apply specifically to your industry, hopefully by showcasing the what and how, you will be able to quickly figure out your own "whats" and "hows." Depending on my level of commitment to this thread, I may go as far as asking permission to record interviews, etc. in hopes of giving everyone the full-scope, in its full transparency.

The only information that will not be fully divulged are the specific products, and the specific content, niches, etc. I will be sharing industries. What I can tell you is every single product/content I create is based off of something I personally use, and/or have personally accomplished. I don't judge you for doing you, so long as it's legal. Speaking for myself, however, I will never put out something like "How to Make 100M in the Stock Market!" unless I've made 100M in the stock market.

Current Situation

My girlfriend of 1.5 years and I recently separated, and I am back living at home with my parents. I have 0 personal friends, though I have a solid business network. I will be moving to AZ May of 2024. I have 175k in startup capital, though I will not be returning to a job, so I obviously need to ensure I have a stable income moving forward, especially considering how expensive AZ can be. Worth it.

(On a personal level: I am finally getting into the gym as I have the money (read: stability) to afford a personal trainer and healthy food. I also got into mountain biking and I'm learning to play the Saxophone. My body is now ~43% tattooed I'm planning on scheduling my tongue split for July of 2024.)

I am definitely a "behind the scenes" kind of guy. I don't believe I need to be loud and in your face to be successful and so far, I've been able to prove it. Simply put: I don't want to be LeBron James. I want the be the dude that signs his paychecks. Despite my hatred for agencies, I will be relaunching a digital marketing agency.

This brings us to my projects.

Authority Website[brand] 1

Industry:
Marijuana
Content Type: Blog; YouTube
Basic Numbers Research: The demand for this niche is immense, and while there are people attempting to fill the gaps, most of the content is subpar and you can tell the individual lacks basic knowledge. I've been smoking since around age 17. I know between my industry/product knowledge and business knowledge, I can easily grow this.

What I have done:

*
All branding has been completed, including social media profiles
* Website has been built
* My first shipment of product is due 6/20. I will be launching a minimum of 5 blog posts before 7/1/23.
* From this point on, all I need to do is continually receive new product and make new posts.
* In regards to product, everyone I'm working with is US-based. There wasn't much "sourcing" as I simply went to the companies themselves. Of course, since I'm literally no one, it didn't get very far, but I was able to land some random support from most of them in the form of "screw wholesale prices. We'll make you pay but it'll be <insert crazy % off>." You never know how far you will get by simply asking. The other companies more or less told me to "buy at wholesale prices or piss off." Shit happens.

Authority Website[brand] 2

Industry: Self-help, Self-improvement, Addiction help, Adult-industry adjacent
Content Type: Blog; Ebook; Forum; Social Media Groups
Basic Research Numbers: This one is sus. Hella sus. It falls more under the category of "self-help" than anything, but the subject material itself is taboo. I will be utilizing an alias as I do not want my personal name associated with this project. That said, IT'S HUGELY OPEN and the numbers prove it: 250M+ global search results, 10M global search results in the last 30 days. The ranking difficulty? 20-35 for every associated keyword.

After conducting a ton of additional research, it seems the reasonings are simple:

A) There's more money to be made off making the opposite content (right now, I'm estimating it's an 8 figure difference between forums, onlyfans, porn, etc.)
B) People involved in the niche tend to have extremely specific personality types. They either won't admit they've experienced it, or they're completely introverted, which is how/why they experienced it initially. They aren't the types making blogs and starting businesses.
C) The content material itself is... interesting and dark, to say the least.

I'm going to start by creating an Ebook. Price point to start will more than likely be somewhere between 10$-20$. I will be avoiding all 3rd party platforms due to the content material, and the fact that I don't want to send my clients to another platform.

What I've done:

* I started writing the Ebook. I'm estimating it will take approximately 1 month to finish it, including covers, editing, proofreading, etc.
* The website is built.
* All branding and social media profiles have been created.
* At this point, all that's left is to finish the Ebook.

Digital Marketing Agency

As stated above, I need stable income, so I've decided to relaunch a digital marketing agency. There are a few differences this time around, however. Some of them I'll share.

Skills Entering: MERN Stack (MongoDB; Express.js; React; Node.js); PHP; Python; Blockchain; Marketing; Sales; HR; Accounting; Headhunting; People Skills

Services:
Most of what I'm offering are the same services you will find others offering if you Google "marketing agency." That said, there are two services I am exploring now that are services I wasn't offering previously. Neither of these services is innovative, brand new, etc., but rather services I believe are being under-utilized. I haven't fully decided to offer them yet. I need to conduct additional research.

What I've done:

* Purchased Everything: domain; vps hosting; business cards; etc.
* Built 5 "dummy company" websites to act as my company portfolio.
* Company website done: Home | About | Services | FAQ | Contact | Careers (not in this order)
* Set out to immediately hire a sales team. My job postings are spread out: Craigslist; Facebook; asked my network to look around; Company Website; Etc. As of now, I have ~11 resumes in my inbox to sort through. I will cap my initial hiring at 5, once again. As before, they will be commission-based.
* Started rebuilding training material. Need to finish the basic material foundation before hiring anyone.
* Reached out to a handful of contacts to let them know I'm back at it.

TCG Business

This is my baby. This is the company I want to inevitably build into my mothership. Firstly, "TCG" is short for trading card game, as in Magic: the Gathering; Yu-Gi-Oh; Pokémon; etc. (for those of you that don't know). There has been an incredible need for that has gone unsolved for decades, and I am in the process of fulfilling that need.

My first app for the industry will be launching before the end of 6/23, and a lot of the work will need to be done manually at first. That's why it's imperative I get everything off of the ground ASAP. This company is also the reason I will be getting my agency to the point of operating without me ASAP.

What I've done:

* Company website is nearly complete
* All socials have been made
* YouTube channel created (currently a placeholder)
* Twitch channel created (currently a placeholder)
* Got together with a graphic designer to create merch mockups. Researching potential associated costs.
* Industry App: the app is completed in its basic form. As of now, I'm simply entering data into my database. The last week of June will be spent having 15 tcg players user testing the app, and a team of 10 pen testing the app.
* Started joining Facebook groups to interact with players and store owners. Reception is still great, despite the minor setback in my previous thread.
* Collecting data from players and store owners alike regarding their issues, what they'd like to see, etc. This information has been key in regards to the direction I'd like some of my future software to go.

All of my branding was created via Canva and 3D Paint (+ random tools such as image resizers) by yours truly. I highly recommend utilizing free trials to maximize your branding quality, but tools such as Canva are worth the cost. Most of the websites were created utilizing WordPress + Elementor.

If you are struggling to find copy, ChatGPT and Rytr.me are two of the best resources I use. For random website needs, such as privacy policies and terms of service, there are plenty of resources out there. Check Google. For images, most websites have use requirements and/or make you pay. Your best bet is just start Google'ing. Personally, I love Vecteezy.

If you feel you are lacking in tech/developer skill, I cannot recommend YouTube, Freecodecamp, and The Odin Project enough. If you need to learn skills such as color theory, SEO, PPC, website layouts, etc. it can all be found for free on YouTube.

** Please remember tech skills are something you DO, not WATCH. **

As it stands now, I am planning on updating this thread once per week. Due to the amount of moving parts, my weekly breakdown will look something like:

Website 1: 1-2 blog posts/week once established.

Website 2: Create Ebook, utilize the free marketing that's available on forums and such to gauge interest. If I'm selling Ebooks before I pay for clicks, then I will invest. If I fail to make a single sale, I may reconsider this. No involvement will be really needed once the Ebook has launched. I may check in here and there for website/copy updates, but otherwise I'm hoping this can sit as evergreen content.

Digital Marketing Agency: My "primary gig" for the time being. I need to ensure this is stable and profitable before working to make myself as irrelevant to the business as possible. Having a stable source of income is imperative. My next immediate steps are hiring a sales team, and training them a bit. I will be doing this while simultaneously lead searching. I don't cold call.

TCG Company: If I can somehow get the donation program and app to start bringing in cash flow sooner vs later, I will more than likely consider shutting down the marketing agency completely. Admittedly, however, I think it'll take a decent bit of time before this happens.

That's all I've got. Thanks for reading my spam.

Cheers.

This sounds like indeed huge endeavors stacked on top of each others, do you have any tips that you have learned over time for correctly managing your time, as this is something I personally struggle with.

Yes, actually. I swear I suffer from undiagnosed ADHD.

You're essentially trying to reprogram your brain to get dopamine from completing tasks/goals instead of video games, sugar, etc. The quickest way to accomplish this is giving yourself short-term goals that are achievable, on a long-term scale. You then scale the goals themselves to bypass plateaus.

Try breaking everything down into small tasks. I'm sure you've heard this before, but what I mean is shrink them down to the point they're bite-sized. Personally, this meant having 30min focused work sessions followed by a 5min break. Just a quick second to step away. Rinse and repeat. As you stick to this, you'll notice you'll start to get things done faster, and more efficiently with experience.

As you practice this and develop your own method out, eventually your "work sessions" will last exponentially longer, and you won't be paying attention to breaks. I now need an alarm to remind me to eat lunch.

Having projects you genuinely care about helps a lot, too. While being broke is motivation, unfortunately the reality is for A LOT of people, being broke isn't motivation enough. I've signed myself up for 4 projects, and 3 of them are projects I'm excited to grow. It's easy to work 15 hours/day when "it's your baby." Similarly, it's easy to fall into the YouTube rabbit hole when your projects are viewed like an unwanted baby on prom night.

Hope that helps a bit.

Cheers.

Update time.

The authority websites have been scrapped. I couldn't get myself to make the "adult-adjacent" material, and with the amount of hurdles still present in the marijuana industry, I didn't feel it was worth the capital/effort.

Ended up completely shifting. While my TCG company is still in full-swing, I went back to my roots and launched a private massage business. At this point, I am offering "to your home/hotel massages," specializing in Swedish, deep tissue, reflexology, injury recovery, and cupping.

At the present time, I'm still building out my first app for the TCG company. I'm also working on building a custom scheduling solution for my massage business. The idea for the custom scheduler is it more or less functions similarly to "Calendly," except it offers dynamic time slots, based on distance between clients and what time I'll be in the area. Hopefully this allows me to fill my schedule more consistently and efficiently.

Within the next couple of months, I'd like to begin branding my own massage therapy content and products, and I have a whole a$$ mountainside worth of ideas. That's all I've got for now.

Cheers.

Boy that didn't take long. Interesting pivot.

I've always felt massage was an untapped market for technology. Good luck.

The adult content was questionable from the beginning. I may want success, but there are some boundaries I'm not willing to cross. That said, it is a completely viable idea for the daring soul that attempts it. The marijuana content is also valid, I simply lack the patience required to jump through the red tape associated with being "legal but not really legal."

I agree though: technology is grossly under-represented in the massage industry. A lot of things are missing, I've noticed, and I'm excited to capitalize on them.

At this time, I have around 10 appointments booked leading into the weekend. While this is decent money/progress, my ultimate goal is to consistently hit ~5 clients/day before figuring out where to go from there.

Cheers.

Edit: I try to include all startup costs associated with what I do in an attempt to show people how long it took to get from A to B. That said, for the massage business:

** I have VPS agency hosting, therefore I can host unlimited databases/websites, hence I will never mention "hosting." I paid 350$/yr. for this setup. **

All massage equipment was purchased from Amazon.

* Domain w/ privacy protection
* Portable Massage Table
* Massage Table Sheets
* Massage Table Warmer
* Towels (pack of 12)
* Massage Gun
* Massage Oil (1 gallon)
* Massage Oil Dispensers (10oz)

Total Cost: $587.28 US

Appointments Completed: 3
Money made: 480$
Money - Expenses (gas): -60$

Assuming all 10 booked appointments are completed:

Appointments Completed: 13
Money Made: 2080$
Money - Expenses (gas/food): $225

The timeline for all of this is approximately 1.5 weeks. I will soon be dropping some money into PPC and potentially FB ads.

Lolz, it really does! I literally have to stop myself starting a new idea every few days.

If you can keep these plates spinning, I say do it, ultimately you're using the hyper focus element of your (undiagnosed) ADHD.

Go as quickly as you can, try and build fast, because as I'm sure you know with ADHD, one day you'll simply stop and wonder why you haven't done xyz in months, and what happened to your enthusiasm for abc.

Yeah, that was the very first thing I had to learn how to control: idea jumping. Quickly realized I wasn't "money chasing," but simply getting excited at the potential of new ideas. That's an easy way to get stuck in a repeating cycle of "making progress on things without making progress on them," lol.

I decided to wrap my day up a bit early today after having one cancellation. I'm now at 12 completed appointments.

* I've made solid ground with a new scheduling system. It will be location-based, of course, but I'm implementing a way to dynamically optimize my schedule throughout the day, based on whether or not customer's are able to modify their appointment time. The hope is this helps prevent me from leaving/entering the same city 8 times/day.

* A lot of people are interested in the service(s), but seem to be put-off by the facts that:

A) the service occurs in their home
B) I'm a man

Unfortunately, I've yet to figure out a true solution as I believe the only real solution is time (to gain credibility, reviews, etc.). I'm considering opening a physical location, but even if I do, it probably wouldn't be until I move to Arizona (2024).

* I've decided to invest into a marketing budget. I will be spending 500$/mo. to start, and will be starting with PPC. That said, I'm going to be boosting 1-2 random Facebook posts to start as the cost is next to nil, and I want to see what'll happen.

* I have too many payment methods, and while it isn't necessarily difficult to keep track of, it is annoying bouncing between ~4 apps while simultaneously worrying about the fact I'm walking around with over 1k in cash. I opened a Chase business account to make depositing cash quicker and safer (I had Chime before). The point of pointing this is out is to say this: make sure you plan out little details such as this. Provide value and get paid, but don't make things harder on yourself than they have to be.

* Lastly, I've started searching for an accountant/bookkeeper. I know absolutely nothing about the tax side of business, and while I am learning, I'm booking/completing appointments faster than I'm learning about taxes. The rates I've been quoted have seemed more than fair.

The Numbers

Appointments Completed: 12
Money Made: 1920$
Money - Expenses (gas/food): $265
Total Profit: 1065$

** I've paid off my start-up investment. **

I'm hoping to have some analytic and ad data on my next update.

Cheers.

Approximately 2 days after I finished creating the app for my TCG company, my formers friends (e.g. the group I originally opened my brick & mortar with) reached out to me and offered to purchase it. I agreed and sold the company, app, branding, domain, etc. While I am extremely excited to have 2 back-to-back sells, in retrospect, I feel I took a massive "L" and somewhat regret it. Not financially, just overall.

I've been in web development for somewhere between 5.5-6 years now. In a maximum of 6 years, I've made ~350,000$ US via web development/web design. I have never had this much capital in my life. The problem is if you match that number to the amount of hours invested in learning web development, it wasn't worth it. So, while I am thankful I got to sit in my personal office, and I've sold two businesses, the fact is I feel I'm in the same boat I was 6 years ago, sans capital. As far as I can see, the biggest benefit to learning how to code at this point is being able to build something from the ground up on my own. Otherwise, I'd be paying some random developer 6 figures to do it. That said, someone will start fleshing out no-code solutions sooner vs later...

Perhaps I'm being negative, but I feel this entire process was an "L" for me. Anyway, it's imperative I always move forward, so onward we go. I am thankful for the developer skills I have utilized over the years, and will continue to utilize as I take on new projects.

Otherwise, I'm still doing massage therapy. Huge shout out to @Andy Black for your Google Ads content. I ended up re-watching your "quick-start" PPC guide on YouTube, and so far I'm having solid results. My next step is to fully dive into it.

On a personal level, I believe I'm finally beginning to feel the psychological and emotional effects of being a grown-a$$ man with no friends. While it has been easy to maintain my cool via chatting with clients, admittedly I still spend the vast majority of my time feeling alone. That is life though. I will get over it, or start making friends sooner or later. Gym is going well, as is therapy. For anyone curious: the dating scene is absolute shit. Avoid it at all costs. Lmfao.

The Future

I'll be focusing on real estate and massage therapy, for the most part. Still planning my move to AZ, and will more than likely ultimately choose Phoenix. Recently realized I'm going to have to A/B test a bunch of stuff as I'll need to begin advertising my massage therapy services in Phoenix prior to being there. I could also invest into a physical location instead of a home to rent out. Time will tell which I choose. This thread became convoluted before I could blink, but I'm happy to report results either way. I will no longer be updating this thread. The sale was completely unexpected, so I now have to spend a bit of time at the drawing board and get myself sorted.

Cheers!

P.S. Podcasts always seem chill to start. I wrote a loose script for what would be my first episode before ultimately saying, "screw it" and purchasing the mic I want. 100$ investment that came with the stand. Both my name and domain were available, so I purchased everything and put it on hold, lol.

Is that the video I did a few days ago, or a different one?

Look me up when you get here. We can fix that loneliness problem here.

That's 60k a year. Yeah, doesn't seem worth it...

YET.

You've been hitting singles. Wait, make that doubles (not many people can say they sold one business much less two).

Whatever you build next, grow it a little bigger, and collect more zeros off of it when you sell it.

See you soon Fam.

I feel personally attacked :happy:

My girlfriend, who has ADHD, keeps telling me that I have it. This might need a thread, I’m curious to how many other entrepreneurs have it

If I recall correctly, it's the 90min YouTube one where you explain how to get started quickly doing PPC. I bookmarked it quite awhile ago now. I had to watch it twice... Lol.

Definitely will man! And I swear... screw dating culture :rofl:. To be fair, I should've done the math before shit talking development work as prior to learning web development, I was barely breaking 30k/yr, so it was definitely worth it.

You are correct though, realistically I shouldn't be shitty about it. I'm 2/2 so far. I can't hate those numbers at all, hah.

Lol. Who knows, but it'd be extremely interesting to check out the numbers behind it. It especially interests me as so many entrepreneurs preach monogamy - MJ himself included - yet there are quite a few examples of entrepreneurs being pulled in so many different directions, it ends up working out for them. Wonder if there's a method to the ADHD-fueled madness...

You're just putting more gumballs into the gumball machine! Soon you'll get that golden gumball.

Great job, man. Not many people can say they achieved what you did.

Keep going, you're honestly doing great.

Tbh, I appreciate your words more than I can explain. I do believe y'all are right: I should be happy about everything that has happened so far.

Thank you!

Cheers.
