Intro Information
They say the more projects you have going on, the more your quality drops. I disagree. My current situation is a bit wonky, but I am taking full advantage of it. Lately, we've had an influx of new members, which is fantastic. In this thread, I will be documenting and listing every process and step I take. Even if this doesn't apply specifically to your industry, hopefully by showcasing the what and how, you will be able to quickly figure out your own "whats" and "hows." Depending on my level of commitment to this thread, I may go as far as asking permission to record interviews, etc. in hopes of giving everyone the full-scope, in its full transparency.
The only information that will not be fully divulged are the specific products, and the specific content, niches, etc. I will be sharing industries. What I can tell you is every single product/content I create is based off of something I personally use, and/or have personally accomplished. I don't judge you for doing you, so long as it's legal. Speaking for myself, however, I will never put out something like "How to Make 100M in the Stock Market!" unless I've made 100M in the stock market.
Current Situation
My girlfriend of 1.5 years and I recently separated, and I am back living at home with my parents. I have 0 personal friends, though I have a solid business network. I will be moving to AZ May of 2024. I have 175k in startup capital, though I will not be returning to a job, so I obviously need to ensure I have a stable income moving forward, especially considering how expensive AZ can be. Worth it.
(On a personal level: I am finally getting into the gym as I have the money (read: stability) to afford a personal trainer and healthy food. I also got into mountain biking and I'm learning to play the Saxophone. My body is now ~43% tattooed I'm planning on scheduling my tongue split for July of 2024.)
I am definitely a "behind the scenes" kind of guy. I don't believe I need to be loud and in your face to be successful and so far, I've been able to prove it. Simply put: I don't want to be LeBron James. I want the be the dude that signs his paychecks. Despite my hatred for agencies, I will be relaunching a digital marketing agency.
This brings us to my projects.
Authority Website[brand] 1
Industry: Marijuana
Content Type: Blog; YouTube
Basic Numbers Research: The demand for this niche is immense, and while there are people attempting to fill the gaps, most of the content is subpar and you can tell the individual lacks basic knowledge. I've been smoking since around age 17. I know between my industry/product knowledge and business knowledge, I can easily grow this.
What I have done:
* All branding has been completed, including social media profiles
* Website has been built
* My first shipment of product is due 6/20. I will be launching a minimum of 5 blog posts before 7/1/23.
* From this point on, all I need to do is continually receive new product and make new posts.
* In regards to product, everyone I'm working with is US-based. There wasn't much "sourcing" as I simply went to the companies themselves. Of course, since I'm literally no one, it didn't get very far, but I was able to land some random support from most of them in the form of "screw wholesale prices. We'll make you pay but it'll be <insert crazy % off>." You never know how far you will get by simply asking. The other companies more or less told me to "buy at wholesale prices or piss off." Shit happens.
Authority Website[brand] 2
Industry: Self-help, Self-improvement, Addiction help, Adult-industry adjacent
Content Type: Blog; Ebook; Forum; Social Media Groups
Basic Research Numbers: This one is sus. Hella sus. It falls more under the category of "self-help" than anything, but the subject material itself is taboo. I will be utilizing an alias as I do not want my personal name associated with this project. That said, IT'S HUGELY OPEN and the numbers prove it: 250M+ global search results, 10M global search results in the last 30 days. The ranking difficulty? 20-35 for every associated keyword.
After conducting a ton of additional research, it seems the reasonings are simple:
A) There's more money to be made off making the opposite content (right now, I'm estimating it's an 8 figure difference between forums, onlyfans, porn, etc.)
B) People involved in the niche tend to have extremely specific personality types. They either won't admit they've experienced it, or they're completely introverted, which is how/why they experienced it initially. They aren't the types making blogs and starting businesses.
C) The content material itself is... interesting and dark, to say the least.
I'm going to start by creating an Ebook. Price point to start will more than likely be somewhere between 10$-20$. I will be avoiding all 3rd party platforms due to the content material, and the fact that I don't want to send my clients to another platform.
What I've done:
* I started writing the Ebook. I'm estimating it will take approximately 1 month to finish it, including covers, editing, proofreading, etc.
* The website is built.
* All branding and social media profiles have been created.
* At this point, all that's left is to finish the Ebook.
Digital Marketing Agency
As stated above, I need stable income, so I've decided to relaunch a digital marketing agency. There are a few differences this time around, however. Some of them I'll share.
Skills Entering: MERN Stack (MongoDB; Express.js; React; Node.js); PHP; Python; Blockchain; Marketing; Sales; HR; Accounting; Headhunting; People Skills
Services: Most of what I'm offering are the same services you will find others offering if you Google "marketing agency." That said, there are two services I am exploring now that are services I wasn't offering previously. Neither of these services is innovative, brand new, etc., but rather services I believe are being under-utilized. I haven't fully decided to offer them yet. I need to conduct additional research.
What I've done:
* Purchased Everything: domain; vps hosting; business cards; etc.
* Built 5 "dummy company" websites to act as my company portfolio.
* Company website done: Home | About | Services | FAQ | Contact | Careers (not in this order)
* Set out to immediately hire a sales team. My job postings are spread out: Craigslist; Facebook; asked my network to look around; Company Website; Etc. As of now, I have ~11 resumes in my inbox to sort through. I will cap my initial hiring at 5, once again. As before, they will be commission-based.
* Started rebuilding training material. Need to finish the basic material foundation before hiring anyone.
* Reached out to a handful of contacts to let them know I'm back at it.
TCG Business
This is my baby. This is the company I want to inevitably build into my mothership. Firstly, "TCG" is short for trading card game, as in Magic: the Gathering; Yu-Gi-Oh; Pokémon; etc. (for those of you that don't know). There has been an incredible need for that has gone unsolved for decades, and I am in the process of fulfilling that need.
My first app for the industry will be launching before the end of 6/23, and a lot of the work will need to be done manually at first. That's why it's imperative I get everything off of the ground ASAP. This company is also the reason I will be getting my agency to the point of operating without me ASAP.
What I've done:
* Company website is nearly complete
* All socials have been made
* YouTube channel created (currently a placeholder)
* Twitch channel created (currently a placeholder)
* Got together with a graphic designer to create merch mockups. Researching potential associated costs.
* Industry App: the app is completed in its basic form. As of now, I'm simply entering data into my database. The last week of June will be spent having 15 tcg players user testing the app, and a team of 10 pen testing the app.
* Started joining Facebook groups to interact with players and store owners. Reception is still great, despite the minor setback in my previous thread.
* Collecting data from players and store owners alike regarding their issues, what they'd like to see, etc. This information has been key in regards to the direction I'd like some of my future software to go.
All of my branding was created via Canva and 3D Paint (+ random tools such as image resizers) by yours truly. I highly recommend utilizing free trials to maximize your branding quality, but tools such as Canva are worth the cost. Most of the websites were created utilizing WordPress + Elementor.
If you are struggling to find copy, ChatGPT and Rytr.me are two of the best resources I use. For random website needs, such as privacy policies and terms of service, there are plenty of resources out there. Check Google. For images, most websites have use requirements and/or make you pay. Your best bet is just start Google'ing. Personally, I love Vecteezy.
If you feel you are lacking in tech/developer skill, I cannot recommend YouTube, Freecodecamp, and The Odin Project enough. If you need to learn skills such as color theory, SEO, PPC, website layouts, etc. it can all be found for free on YouTube.
** Please remember tech skills are something you DO, not WATCH. **
As it stands now, I am planning on updating this thread once per week. Due to the amount of moving parts, my weekly breakdown will look something like:
Website 1: 1-2 blog posts/week once established.
Website 2: Create Ebook, utilize the free marketing that's available on forums and such to gauge interest. If I'm selling Ebooks before I pay for clicks, then I will invest. If I fail to make a single sale, I may reconsider this. No involvement will be really needed once the Ebook has launched. I may check in here and there for website/copy updates, but otherwise I'm hoping this can sit as evergreen content.
Digital Marketing Agency: My "primary gig" for the time being. I need to ensure this is stable and profitable before working to make myself as irrelevant to the business as possible. Having a stable source of income is imperative. My next immediate steps are hiring a sales team, and training them a bit. I will be doing this while simultaneously lead searching. I don't cold call.
TCG Company: If I can somehow get the donation program and app to start bringing in cash flow sooner vs later, I will more than likely consider shutting down the marketing agency completely. Admittedly, however, I think it'll take a decent bit of time before this happens.
That's all I've got. Thanks for reading my spam.
Cheers.
