Does anyone here knows how to get wide lats without access to a cable machine/lat-pulldown machine?

My usual routine to train lats is 1 set of 23 pullups, 3 times a week (going down elbows locked and up again). Been doing this for 5 years. Strangely, the pullups doesn't seem to increase my lat width.

I could have high lat origin/insertion points which results in less visible lats. Or it could be poor genetics. Besides the pull-up bar, I also have access to an ez-curl bar with plates.

I was shopping for an online backup solution after getting paranoid someone could simply enter my home and steal my backups, but they were all too expensive because I have TB's of data. Another issue with online backups is that they are a recurring cost, and I am trying to minimize recurring costs. I realized I could just make some encrypted backups, and store them in my car, which is what I will do.

In the spirit of saving money, I see DHH at Basecamp has elaborated on their move away from the Cloud. They reduced their Cloud costs as much as possible, and their bill was still $3.2M. He's going to give an update at the end of 2024 to document how much money they saved by using their own servers.

NASA paid Oracle $15M to avoid a software-license audit. An outside auditor told Oracle they wasted $35M on overpayments and penalties, over the last few years.

If we go in to a deep Recession, I expect a lot more of these stories. Companies looking at where all their money is going, and being shocked at how much they've wasted. The Cloud is often touted as a way to save money, but that seems to be where a lot of companies are getting hammered. I've read where AWS has forgiven small developers who made a mistake, and racked up an enormous AWS bill, I assume they are less forgiving with companies. It will be interesting to see if the belt-tightening is good or bad for Cloud providers.

I wouldn’t put a lot of faith in anything DHH says. The guy absolutely believes his own hype. Dude wrote a whole book about how learning from failure is a waste of time; you learn more from success, so just be successful the first time and learn from that! Easy, right? Nonsense advice from a guy who got lucky once and can‘t capitalize, which is why the like 6 or so other products he launched after Basecamp all failed.

How much is your data worth to you? You can get unlimited for $10/mo now. But even some expensive ones are $200 a year for 10TB.

Does storing in your car feel safer than that if your main worry is someone breaking into your house?

What about getting a safe?

I found BackBlaze for $6 a month/unlimited, and it was going to take a week or two to upload my data. I have about 7TB of films and training videos that I purchased, many of which are no longer available to download. I had a spare 8TB drive, so it came down to, I can put this drive in my car, or I can send BackBlaze $130 (24 month plan)..

Sometimes I live nomadically, so I avoid things that are heavy (like a safe). I do have a fire-proof bag for documents, but I would assume heat would ruin a drive.

If I start travelling again, I probably would get BackBlaze, in case something happened on the road. I'm planning to buy a house soon, so my car should be able to be my "off-site" storage. A bank deposit box would also work, one I get a local bank.

A bank deposit box would be $15/mo. I don’t see why the cloud wouldn’t be your first and easy choice. Everything else has more headaches for literally a few dollars less.

Sometimes I get a Safety Deposit Box to store legal documents and identity papers in, so I would just throw the drive in there with the paperwork.

Respectfully, I couldn't think of lower hanging fruit to spend money on. I'd be homeless before I drop the gym membership.
Gym trainers are so cheap too it’s such a saturated industry.

$80 an hour/week/fortnight to have a professional who’s dedicated his life to it train you.

There is a massive difference between having someone do your programming and diet and watch your form in person compared to watching YouTube and trying to figure it all out on your own.

They are likely doing $100MM+++ revenue at incredible SaaS margins, so, while this bill sounds big, its really more of a rounding error. Just another one of his posts thirsting for attention with hot takes.

You have to be really full of yourself to call AWS profits "just obscene", while running your own business the exact same way. But the sheep still gobble it up.

Can one of @Fox students please focus your efforts on the tattoo industry. Tattoos are a big decision. So getting information about a shop, their artists, styles, processes, and booking appointments should not be freaking relegated to Facebook... seriously, wtf.

Make these people have the following:

- Home Page
- Artists Page (With at least a paragraph about the artist, their best/preferred style, AND their portfolio)
- What to Expect or How it Works Page (Step-by-Step process for getting an amazing tattoo)
- Shop Page (to sell other shit like tattoo creams)
- Booking Page (To simplify the booking process, schedule consultations, etc.)
- Blog Page (To share general info about different styles, approaches, just plain useful info)

I'm on my sixth tattoo...and still feel like it's a crap shoot to get the info I need to make an informed decision, and I'm willing to bet that this is why people end up with shit tattoos all the time.

I don't want to walk into your studio, especially if I'm an hour or more away and have no idea if you'll be there. I don't want to send a message to your gmail or on FB and wait 3-4 days for a response. I don't want to call and interrupt a session with one of your clients.

What I do want:
  • Charge me for a consultation so I get dedicated blocked off time with the artist
  • Charge me for art so you're motivated to create something amazing for me
  • Have a working process (like at least a client questionnaire) for how you'll extract the idea from my head to the page
  • Be open about your pricing and process and give MORE details not less
  • Make it easy for me to choose you over other studios even if there's a waitlist
  • Guide me toward the right person for different styles
Sleeve tattoos are in the thousands. Sometimes $6,000 to $15,000... Why can't I get a solid client experience when I'm dishing out cash like that? This makes no sense to me.

The more you progress and get results, the more people will give you unsolicited advice on things they have no idea about and that you have been working on for years.

Say no to all of it.

Years ago when I was helping the Google Ads team in Groupon one of the top earners in the UK was from people searching for "tattoo near me" etc.

The next top earner was "tattoo removal near me". Doh.

Oh, and if you're wondering what the top earner was...

It was "afternoon tea london".

Go figure.

Similar to this;

Aussie hospitality employee has $300 deducted from payslip for using mobile phone at work

The employee in this case had been warned a number of times about using their phone while working, and this time watched a movie during a public holiday (double time pay, maybe double time and a half) so they were docked $300.

Personally don't have an issue with it. You're being paid to work, do your job and watch a movie on your couch after hours.

Instagram is the platform you want to be using to find tattoo artists and judge how good they are. I agree though, there needs to be a better way.

Disgusting.
When you employ people you don't want them pissing around on your time, let them do it in their own time, what's wrong with expecting people to actually work when they're being paid to work?

Nothing says your company sucks when you have ZERO reviews posted on your website, zero links to Yelp, Google Reviews, or any third-party review service. Sure enough! On further inspection .... 2.2 average out of 5.

I wish we could review Yelp and Google though.

There would be lots of 1 star reviews from the businesses that never signed up to be reviewed.

I worked with a guy back in the day that just barely missed playing in the NHL, so those were the guys who he grew up with and hung out with a bit. He had a lot of stories about why they all go broke. Hard to feel sorry for guys making $800,000/year who need to pretend they make $10,000,000/year

It isn't my natural thought process to search Instagram for local tattoo artists. I barely have an Instagram. I searched Google for service + town like for any other service.

I'm meeting with an artist who has a strong Instagram portfolio, but I don't know much about her because she doesn't write anything on her posts lol.

I don't know if the artwork is her creation or something customers brought in. Nothing about what they asked for, how long it took, how much it cost, how to get schedule an appointment, etc.

Besides the pull-up bar, I also have access to an ez-curl bar with plates.
lol

Pullups are great (if not the best) for upper back development.
It's not the exercise at fault, it's the training volume.

Doing 3 sets / week is barely enough for maintenance. 10 - 25 sets / week is the appropriate volume if you want to make progress.

And I thought 3 sets x 23+ reps / week is a big deal lol

To hit 10 - 25 sets a week, I assume that would mean doing about 3 sets x 7 days a week?
I can't do 23+ reps for 3 sets, so guess I need to reduce that to 10 reps x 3 sets x 7 days.

It means that if I get 3k/month on my website, I get 100 orders per month.

That can't be right.

It says e-commerce. You're running a blog. It's completely different.

Most e-commerce store visitors have the intent to buy a product. Blog visitors have the intent to consume information. You probably won't get 100 orders with 30,000 visitors or heck, even 150,000 visitors.
