15 new cases in China, 6 of them are imported. They say that it has peaked there. In total: 80.000 people infected with more than 3000 deaths and more than 80% is recovered. They will start importing and exporting more again.

Very very good news.

I see no reason for this to be very far from the truth, at least the fact that it is going better.

I don't believe a F*cking word of those statistics coming from the Chinese.

The decrease is caused by the full lockdown. If they continue as usual again it will start spreading again. They will be back to square one.

But what else can be done? The whole world cannot be on lockdown forever...In the short term, we can manage a lockdown. But for a longer period of time it will be hell.

Hopefully people will still keep an eye out on symptoms and good hygiene.
The virus spread so bad early on because no one took it seriously. I believe that the Chinese, more than anyone else, will be extremely paranoid and suspicious of anyone displaying symptoms.

It might have been a joke before, but sneeze in china and you might find yourself in a military escort vehicle, now.

I don't believe it. 15 new cases in a country with 1,4 billion people?

I didn't believe a thing they said during the, still on-going- HK protests. And I still don't believe anything from China today.

Random 5 am thought in bed: I took a moment to acknowledge and (honor?) the fact they are probably testing the in-development vaccine on animals.

Breaking news from my hometown. This morning they closed the first school in Tampa Florida due to someone affiliated with the school. They wouldn’t release the identity of the person for obvious reasons, but they did close down the school. Next week in our town is spring break for most children and it couldn’t come at a more perfect time. I have been predicting to my wife all along that out the backside of spring break they probably won’t reopen the schools for a few weeks.

In January, my entire household got wiped out with a sickness that lasted for three weeks. Vicious, headaches, cough and cold, respiratory system. We all got over it but it was one of the worst sicknesses any of us have ever had. Tested for the flu but the test came back negative.

I hope it is true. Unfortunately, we cannot trust any "news" that comes from China. They have no free press. All "information" is filtered and manipulated by the government.

My throat has been sore for the past 5 days. I have 0 health issues and am extremely healthy/workout/run daily + vitamins etc so I wonder if it wont affect me as bad?

A sore throat is not a common symptom of C0VlD-19, although it can happen to some.

It's still cold and flu season, which is why getting tested is so important. Right now, you are something like 1000x more likely to have the flu, or 10,000x more likely to have the common cold. If you're concerned (which is totally understandable considering the situation), go to the doctor and have them recommend you for C0VlD-19 testing. Letting them know the situation (employee got sick, got quarantined, etc) will probably give them more of a reason to do so.

You probably don't have it but better safe than sorry.

Won't take long for most schools to be closed probably, here in Germany. Just one case is enough to close down a whole school. Already several closed here in the south.

But please don't just go to your doctor without giving them a call before and explaining the situation.
As far as I know it's recommended to call beforehand if you think you may have it. If you just go and the test turns out positive they'll probably put the whole doctor's office on lockdown for two weeks.

I don't know for other types of flu.
But for coronavirus, there are lots of ways to get a false negative.

Which is a problem in many ways...

(Based on an interview of the company that devised the coronavirus test kits). Saw it on YouTube

My colleagues neighbour just tested positive for it. His wife likely has it too. I know of 3 people within my network who have had pnuemonia in the past month which required hospital. I think it's more widespread than people realise.

Considering how fast it spreads, that it has been spreading since at least January in many western countries without governments acknowledging it, and that it is accelerating, I wouldn't be so confident about the reassuring probabilities you quote.

I guess most countries will discover the real situation when their hospitals are overwhelmed.

At that point, gouvernements will be forced to acknowledge the real situation.

I think he meant that the general propability of getting the flu or a general cold are this high in flu season, not compared to the Coronavirus.

I am honestly surprised, given the hysteria that is worse than the actual virus, that half of us haven’t died yet. We don’t even have an infected person feeding us juicy details yet. But then I look at the numbers. It is still very rare.

They've just announced that all schools and colleges will be closed here in Ireland after tomorrow until 29th March.

All the staff in my wife's office are being sent home today to work from home for the rest of the month.

Visits to hospitals and old folks homes will be restricted.

Gatherings of 100 indoors and 500 outdoors are to be cancelled.

I've been quietly stocking up for the past couple of weeks. Nothing too mad - enough to last us a few weeks, and to get over the initial "empty shelves syndrome" that such an announcement would bring.

... and then I thought I'd pop to the local Aldi as we're due the weekly grocery shop anyway.

Dayum... there was a queue of cars to get into the supermarket carpark, and then no trolleys. Five aisles with 10-20 people in them. I think there was probably over 100 people indoors there.

Time to batten down the hatches.

EDIT: The kids were delighted to correct me that schools are off from *today* till the 29th of March. Which will then roll into two weeks of school holidays anyway.

I literally was scheduled to come to Dublin tomorrow. We called it off yesterday because of the risk of getting trapped overseas. It was a bummer big time.

Yeah. I was due to fly out tomorrow from Dublin to see my mum in the UK. I’ve pushed those flights back a month. Hopefully I’m not too optimistic.

Flights are still happening, and there’s *only* been about 50 confirmed cases nationwide in Ireland. I’m glad they’re being proactive and trying to get a handle on this.

I don’t know what’s happening in the UK. My mum doesn’t get out much and I’ll be ordering her food online through Tescos. I’m worried for her though...

EDIT: When this clears then let me know when you’re due into Dublin @GIlman. Maybe we can meet up for a quick coffee to say hello.

For sure. We will be coming to Dublin sometime in the future. American Airlines being the most terrible airline we ever fly, and we fly almost every week, wouldn’t refund our money. Their solution is that we can rebook the exact trip to Dublin in the future using the same class of fare, they won’t even just apply a general credit to your account.

Moral of the story, everyone should avoid American, esp if you are domestic. Southwest is a dream to fly, you can literally cancel your flight 10 min before it departs and they will credit your account. With the amount I fly, with status, if I don’t cancel and don’t show up they still credit my account. Even though I prefer assigned seating, American lost about 10K of business from me last year because they treat their customers like crap and have horrible ticketing policies. This isn’t the first time I have regretted flying American.

Plus Jackie is pretty much full Irish (last name Griffin) so been a top desire to visit Ireland for a while

Mclaren F1 team pull out of season opener in Melbourne, confirmed case in the team staff.

I'm quite annoyed at what's happening in Melbourne right now. Astounded that there are still thousands getting ready to flock to the track tomorrow. I think it will be cancelled at the last minute though.

In Europe, a lot of people are so salty about Trump's decision to stop the incoming flights. They literally said on our national news just now: What is the point, it is also in Washington and it will spread through the country either way.

The point is to make it go more slowly, so it can be controlled more. Unbelievable.
