Hi everyone!
My name is Tate Morgan. I've been a long-time lurker of the forum but very active in the Make Money with Web Design group that spawned from Fox's GOLD web dev thread.
I currently operate an ad agency based in Cleveland, OH. I was studying physical therapy in college when I dropped out. At the time, I was working a small management position where I was given a little marketing freedom, and I ran with it, developed a creative strategy and some campaigns, and grew revenue by 8%. 8% might not sound huge, but when you're 19 and you see what 8% can mean to a decent sized company in terms of dollars, you get inspired.
I networked with a local company who is an industry leader in chemical distribution. They had just let go of their marketing director and liked the idea of a "young gun" at the helm. I hated that term, but they 45-60 year old executives couldn't be bothered with learning social media strategy, so I fit the bill. I spent two years with the company, assembled a small 3 person marketing team, developed an app and hundreds of pieces of content from blog posts to product videos, grew their IG account from 900 to 12k followers, and developed a mailing list of over 10k users.
At this time, I got a small taste of freelance marketing for a few other clients, as well as starting my own business. I launched an e-commerce luxury pet clothing business, which did pretty well. Agreements with local warehousers and China-based manufacturers allowed me to stock and dropship fairly efficiently. I was also DJing and promoting shows, which turned into live-event activations sponsored by major brands. A lot of moving parts were coming together all at once.
I left my marketing position to join an agency. The company was failing, unfortunately. The president of the company wanted to focus only on print marketing, which is incredibly difficult to do in our area.
After my employer's agency failed, I stuck to freelance work for 3 months. This grew to be freelance + some outsourcing, to freelance + Outsourcing + Outsourced Sales. At this point, it was a pretty easy decision to operate as an agency. Clients became larger and plans became a little more comprehensive. It's been a good time!
The last 5 years have come together pretty nicely. I'm 24 now, have gained a lot of valuable experience, and continue learning from, as well as teaching, those around me.
I'm haven't been on the forum often as I've been busy, but I'm making an effort to come around more frequently! If there's anything I can answer for anyone, I'm happy to talk.
Thanks for reading!
