Hello fellow Fastlaners!
I'm a portuguese guy (sorry for my mediocre English) who graduated in Mechanical Engineering in December 2016.
Right after graduation my best friend, who also finished at the same time in Materials Engineering, challenged me to start a business together. We didn't have any idea of where we would want to work, and we weren't very fond of the idea of trading 5 for 2 and for a mediocre salary, and so we went for it. We started to learn web developing because we aimed to build a SaaS (less investment needed).
In April we joined my friend's dad, who is a computer technician with programming experience, and after a month or so we started building an app for finding street food. Well, I did most of the work since my friend had accepted a 6-month scholarship at our university and his dad had his own business to run. The partnership with my friend's dad didn't work out well (arguments, disagreements) and we were just the two of us again by October.
In October we did an acceleration program based mostly on Alex Osterwalder's Business Model Generation book (Is it worthy?). We weren't feeling the street food app because of so-so reactions of people interviewed and little street food businesses in Portugal, so we decided to change the idea to an app that facilitates the search and book of a group dinner.
This January my friend suddenly gave up on the idea of starting a business. He thinks we don't have enough maturity yet to pull it off. I was thinking on what I should do, and I read The Millionaire Fastlane . After reading it I felt really energized to continue, even if alone at the moment! Like MJ said..."I prefer to live in regret of failure than in regret of never trying!".
Right now i'm thinking if I should really dig in into learning web developing for a couple of months before starting to build the app, or if i "learn-as-i-go" as I somewhat did previously.
I have much more questions and doubts... I'm hoping these will be addressed during my time at the forum.
Nice to meet you all!
