Not a rant, but kind of random so I don't want to start a thread.

I've been talking with some friends who have been living in Eastern Europe lately and Montenegro is a recurring theme for property investment over there. I've done some reading and it seems there's a good amount of wealthy immigration heading down there at the moment (Russians, Brits, Turks, etc).

But, I don't live there, and I don't have any local contacts at this very point in time. And in my experience, people without those connections get fleeced.:clench:

So it's a long shot as this seems to be mostly a US based forum, but if someone has experience in the region, please drop me a PM!

I was reading a book about this topic a while ago by Elizabeth Gilbert. She describes how ideas are an energetic life-form looking for a human partner. If it thinks that you can do the job, it will pay you a visit. But, if it notices that you won't collaborate to the execution, it will find someone else. It will not wait for you forever.

Now I know that this is magical realism, but it always stuck with me in a way to remind me that if I don't take action, someone else will.
I took action I was given the opportunity and brought my ideas to life I modernized and had a huge impact on the world through entrepreneurs

Not familiar with Diablo or video games but I'll take a guess: This franchise is pure PC and they want to move it to pure Mobile? Yea, that would piss me off. It's just not the same experience. You can see the guys on stage warm into their "oh shit" feeling...

My memory of this may not be entirely accurate...

Gamers have been asking for Diablo 4 for quite awhile since Diablo 3 was a huge disappointment when it first launched. It still has its issues and a lot of players moved over to Path of Exile, which is free. Path of Exile is the game that people wanted Diablo 3 to be.

So, in this announcement, he talked it up like they were announcing Diablo 4, but then said they were developing Diablo 3 for mobile -- and nobody wanted that. Then, everyone finds out that the development was outsourced to a chinese company that just reskinned it from another game that was buggy.

At the end you hear them say, "Do you guys not have phones?" That upset a lot of people because it made them feel like Blizzard was not listening to them and just assumed they wanted a mobile game. It was also very condescending the way they said it.

However, in recent news over the last several days, Blizzard announced they were stopping development on a Starcraft first person shooter game to focus on Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2. I haven't heard anything about the mobile game so I don't know if that is still happening or not.

Listening to 'Sell or be sold' by Grant Cardone...

...and I have never come across a book as damn awful as this. Wow!

Cardone is a closing machine but he should never be allowed to write a book again.

In fact, I don't think he even wrote this audible book. He just talks and talks and talks. There's no structure or anything. He makes the occasional point here and there, but it is among hours of him talking about himself or talking about one thing before stopping mid-sentence to talk about something else. One example is he spent 25 minutes saying customers like to see written information. What he says in 12 hours could be said in 3. It's so sad because he's obviously good in sales

That, and a good part of the book is him trying to sell you his other books or telling you to phone his office (where they obviously sell you more things).

Does anybody know of the article on MJ's website in which he recalls a conversation he overheard between 3 friends (one of whom had just successfully sold his company) in his limo? I read it a few months ago. It was very inspiring. Now I can't seem to find it. I think it was in the pdf format.

Anyone remember that thread where someone bought an $8,000 house to renovate. Can someone point me toward that thread if you remember what it was called. Having trouble pulling it up in search or on Google. I'll keep searching in the meantime. Thanks.

*Edit*
Nevermind, I found it. I was searching for the wrong number. Was $9,000.

Definitely the wrong group to complain to, but I feel like advertising has absolutely destroyed the web experience for me. I swear, every time I go to a site I am either smacked with the following:

1) Giant pop up saying I am not allowed to access content because of my ad blocker. BTW, this just makes me find a different site, I rarely whitelist because of being bullied into it.
2) If I'm searching for reviews on a specific topic (e.g. home receivers) I get a 12 page "slideshow" just so I will click through 12 different pages with ads
3) Any type of download or informational product requires an email address so I can be thrown into yet another sales funnel.
4) A sales page that if I were to print it out would easily take up 10 pages.

I guess it all works, there are 100s of guides on marketing that say you should do all of these tactics but damn if it hasn't completely ruined any enjoyment I used to get of surfing.

Also I totally understand that this is how these "free" websites generate revenue. But does the experience have to be so crappy? It's like listening to pandora/spotify. They have ads for their non-ad service, by admitting that their ad is incredibly annoying.

1) Giant pop up saying I am not allowed to access content because of my ad blocker. BTW, this just makes me find a different site, I rarely whitelist because of being bullied into it.

Yeah, it's a bit annoying, and I just go to another site as well, however I do whitelist any one that I know will be useful to me. It's fair enough, they give me content, I give them attention.

2) If I'm searching for reviews on a specific topic (e.g. home receivers) I get a 12 page "slideshow" just so I will click through 12 different pages with ads

Surely you can find non slideshow reviews? I have never had this problem... then again I only review something when I want to buy it and I don't buy that much.

3) Any type of download or informational product requires an email address so I can be thrown into yet another sales funnel.

This is surely fair enough, no? I mean if someone sweated over some content to provide you with for free, surely the least you can do is sling them an email address.

I mean nobody's forcing you to download their content.

4) A sales page that if I were to print it out would easily take up 10 pages.

The trick is to scroll to the bottom and click "buy". Or close the window, both work!

t's like listening to pandora/spotify. They have ads for their non-ad service, by admitting that their ad is incredibly annoying.

You must admit that this is funny :)

How would you monetise Spotify? Don't forget that all that music is paid for.

If you listen to spotify that much, just pay for the service. If you feel like $10 a month will break you, share it with other fellow music lovers.

Good rant!
:)

I'm often frustrated by not having a group of people that I can talk to that "get" what my current issues are. Everyone I talk to is likely in a different industry, or if they are in my industry, they sell high profile 6 and 7 figure licenses instead of seat based licensing like I do. And even then, most people who do SaaS have their platforms hosted on the web while mine is for Desktops. Desktop software's is completely different than the typical SaaS.

Just from building my current company, we've run into so many other potential "million dollar" ideas centered around the desktop software space. It's ridiculous how the transition to "the cloud" has left so much on the table.

I'm also frustrated because you'll hear people preaching about pre-selling software, and then when you ask them if they've actually done it, they say "Well, kind of but not really, so no..". I've asked a handful of people that I figured might have an inkling on how to actually pre-sell it, and I can't find anyone who's done it on any notable scale. Maybe I'm in the wrong Facebook groups or some shit? We've got a few more tools coming up and I'd like to know some ways to do it.

------

There's a podcast that I listen to called the SaaS podcast and they have some decent takeaways on most episodes. For months they've been pushing this "SaaS toolkit" download and I figured what the hell, let me see what this thing is. So I go on their website and enter my email. I open up the SaaS toolkit and its just a list of programs or languages you need to build a SaaS company. It's like, if you don't know what any of this stuff is by the time you want to start one, you aren't going to F*cking make it. Not to mention, almost nothing in it pertained to Desktop based SaaS, so of course it was useless to me.

This was my experience with 10x rule.

It's good energy and really pumps you up, but ultimately he says nothing and sells you on his programs.
Taking notice of his conventions/paid masterminds/courses; he almost squarely fits into the shark in the guppy tank salesman that MJ characterizes in TMF ; 10x rule being his only saving grace.

There is a company called Trustnav that is building a premium adblocker. It's a paid for service, and web advertisers who register will be paid a % of that fee in exchange for having their ads blocked based on the amount of time someone's spent on that website.

So for example:

$10 month

Fastlane Forum: 70% of time: $7
Reddit: 20% of time: $2
Entrepreneur: 10% of time: $1

I'm sure loads of similar services will be doing this in future as blockchain tech allows micropayments to become a reality.

This guy couldn't handle the debt and went overseas never to return. Slowlane 'expert' admonishes the guy for picking a bad degree otherwise pay back no problem despite it being 2008 and a recession.

I like that idea! Until sites purposely cause delayed load times to increase their ad revenue :frown:

I'm not an engineer but I think you're headed in the right direction.

The solution would probably be designing a new kind of rope with very high resistance to twisting.

I'm sure there is formal fancy terms for all this in physics but who knows.

Maybe a rope that is a made of metal? Maybe some kind of coating?

I've never pre-sold software, but I'm guessing it's like any other type of sales.

Find a way to get in front of the decision maker that will want to buy your software. Then pitch them. That could be by going to meetups, sending emails, making phone calls, creating an adwords campaign, etc.

Who's your target customer? How do you get in front of them? What do they want to hear?

Start with those questions.

I haven't used it as much as I'd like.
It seems the teachers change all the time, none of the teachers mentioned in the previous thread are there, I wonder how often it changes. You think they would keep the old stuff archived
