Hi, I have been a personal trainer in the UK for a long time now. I was qualified back when there were not as many trainers about, so it used to be very profitable, and can still be, but the trouble with the business model is that it’s limited by time.
The second problem is that fitness is my passion, and doing this for a living takes away from my own fitness and training, as by doing it paid, I have lost a lot of my own passion for being motivated to do my own training. This problem about doing things you have passion for in explained and brought back to my attention when I read -Unscripted -, so I can relate to it.
I have a chance to do a sales position selling property, which will earn me more than double what I can earn doing personal training, and I am thinking of taking it, and leaving my personal training.
My aim would be to have a new challenge, and to get some money behind me to invest into a new Unscripted venture later on, so it would be a stepping stone. I aim is to side hustle and build up a platform on the side, while earning money, which will support me while I work on something much better.
I will have a decent basic plus a great commission, but the problem is I would be working for someone else, which kinda goes against the grain with Unscripted , but it would be a stop gap, and I would be able to concentrate on my own fitness goals and get back my lost passion for weight training and fitness.
It feels li a backward step, and since I have read Unscripted , I am now thinking it might be best to NOT do a career that is my passion. Personal trainers are so common now, I feel that everyone is a qualified trainer in my area, so maybe it’s time to get out as it’s best to do the opposite of what the 99% are doing?
Can anyone relate to this? Or do you think that I am being an idiot, or thinking out of the box and trying something else might open a more opportunistic event later on.
I know a lot of what I am writing is me, me, me, and know that I need to add massive value, to get some value vouchers in my bank. But at the sam time, I need a constant flow of cash, so that I can built something, which will be of value to people.
I am looking at this as a long-term thing, so I know quick fixes don’t exist and taking a backward step, working for someone else would be the first step of many, if it gets me to Unscripted later on it must me worth it.
Any thoughts on this?
