Hey all!

Recently launched a small $20 test on AdWords to get some metrics on the keywords
+mothers +day +cards
and
+mothers +day +greeting +cards.

I have both of these in one campaign, in the same ad group.

For the first keyword, I notice that I have 3 clicks (SO COOL!), 71 impressions, and a CTR of 4.23%

-

However, I don't know how I find my overall Impression Share.

How can I tell:

1. How many times +mothers +day +cards was searched during this campaign?

I would like to know how often my ad was displayed, out of how many times it could have been displayed.

Funny - I actually message Andy a lot when I have questions like this!

I didn't want to get into the habit of going straight to him with every little thing, so I figured I'd just make a thread and see if he or anyone else wanted to chime in! :)

You can click the columns button and add a column for search impression share. It's under competitive metrics.

Edit:
Just an FYI, I googled "impression share adwords" and the 2nd one (under the ads) is:
Get impression share data - Previous - AdWords Help

Yeah - tried this one. I don't see a section for "competitive metrics."

I click my campaign.

I click "Ads."

I click "Columns."

I hit "Modify."

And my options are:

Attributes
Performance
Social Metrics
Performance (Active View)
Gmail Metrics
YouTube Earned actions

Nothing about IS in any of these areas.

You don't get Impression Share at the ad level. Just campaign, ad group, and keyword level (and in the dimensions tab).

You wanted to see your Impression Share at the *keyword* level didn't you? Go to the keyword tab and modify columns to show the Impression Share metrics.

Beware though... your two keywords are canabalising each other slightly (one of your keywords catches the other). If you want to get really geeky then put them into separate ad groups (recommended anyway), and put the appropriate negative in one of the ad groups to split your traffic properly.

Also... you're getting your terminology wrong. People don't search for the keyword your bidding on. They search with a search term, and you're bidding on a keyword. A keyword matches a *set* of search terms.

Of course I want to get really geeky! I'll implement that here in a second.

Also - is it typical that even though I have the results above, all three competitive metrics are displaying: -

The IS metrics can take a day or so to come in. Sometimes they remain a "-" too... I've no idea why... maybe lack of volume to get you the data?
