I think you are missing it.

ChatGPT is a tool. It has saved me countless hours in time.

If the tool is used wrong, it won't work for you. Kinda like buying a hammer to pound a screw into a piece of wood.

Minimally, ChatGPT is a great tool to give you leads for problem solving.

A lot of times it doesn't solve the problem, but it gives you clues where you should be looking.
funny you should say that. I recently did have to put a screw in with a hammer.

I also run anything that will be posted publicly through Copyscape and an AI detection tool like ContentatScale.
What I've seen is people generating copy with ChatGPT and then running it through a tool like QuillBot to make it sound more human. In my tests, AI Detector already perceived GPT-4 content as likely human with 88% probability, 2 clicks in QuillBot brought this percentage to 99%.

I think in the future, we will see a lot of bad copy. It won't necessarily be the fault of AI, like it was mentioned before it is just a tool. Nevertheless, a tool that allows a bad copywriter to 10x their output.

I'm worried that in the future we will use LLM's like archiving software (think ZIP or WinRAR). Someone will write a 1 sentence, ask LLM to expand it to a full-blown post, then we as a reader will ask LLM to summarize it in 1 sentence.

Been using GPT-4 pretty much every waking hour since its release in a professional setting and here's my thoughts:

For writing(website copy, blog posts, other longform content): 6/10. It's generic. With careful prompt engineering you can improve it but the best method for me has been to write out the outlines yourself and ask it to expand on them with specific directions. It's also good for writing generic outlines, but not actual high quality writing calibrated with what you really need.

For learning about new concepts: 8.5/10, as long as what you want to know is beginner - early intermediate level. Falls off later on.

For coding: 7/10, works great for most mundane tasks and can do very few tasks that requires careful thought. Best use to get it to write code for mundane tasks and debugging. Wouldn't use it for much else.

In general it's been generic and after using it quite a bit it just feels like a slight improvement on GPT3.5 rather than an early AGI as it felt like early on.

I wish I could find the right people to help me in this area I just do not have the time to learn it all. I have also been trying also to find a Betfair developer for 3 years. We have all of these outsourcing websites out there not mentioning names but I have struggled. I like to functionally decompose my requirements with a clear spec and then hand it over to the right people to implement. I think life was easier 10 years ago. Grumpy old man here!

Hi,

I am from a computing background and have a computer science and had my own I.T company for 20+ years.

I tried ChatGPT is this just emperors new clothes or is it my age showing.

I instructed it to write content for me and after a while it all started all looking the same.

This cannot be good for SEO I write all my content myself and rank very high in a competative industry that has took me about 3 years to get there.

I like natural content flow and I do not think ChatGPT does this. Plus everybody will have the same content moving forward.

With respect to it producing code I think does it produce efficient code?

In the commercial sector you break down business requiremnets into functional and then through the software lifecycle were does ChatGPT fit in here?

It was fun using it but it's not for me.

Plus if I was paying for SEO and someone was using ChatGPT to produce it I would be pretty pissed off.

I will probably get slated for this.
I am using ChatGPT to consume educational YouTube videos at a frightening pace. I literally consumed a bunch of Andrew Hubermans videos in minutes. And then collect that info on a Notion page.

This is literal Gold info... I am going to share it because I love this community and y'all have taught me a lot.

I do this by using a tool to download the transcript of a YouTube video. Then plug it into ChatGPT and prompt it to "List all the key points, using simple English." If relevant I would ask it to give me actionable steps to achieve what I watched.

I usually watch videos first and then use it to capture the key points and then solidify that information in my head in Notion afterwards.

I hope you find this helpful!

Lol. I can see that too. Sooo much fluff out there.

I didn't this once for one of my own forum threads to see if it would help me write a summary. It completely missed the point though.

I use the 'Youtube Subtitle Download Helper' Chrome Extension. I use this on Bing Browser Extension. Note: I use Chrome for my day-to-day activities but I use Bing just for this purpose and works very well. Make sure to download it in .txt format. Andy try it and let me know. I will share an example if it still does not work.

You can also use it to give a general summary of different books to see if they are worth reading. Example:

Here's a list of the key points from each chapter of "How to Think Like a Roman Emperor: The Stoic Philosophy of Marcus Aurelius" by Donald Robertson:

- Stoicism is a philosophy that emphasizes virtue, reason, and self-control.
- We should focus on what is within our control and accept what is not.
- Living in accordance with nature is a central tenet of Stoicism.
- The dichotomy of control is the idea that some things are within our control, while others are not.
- Focusing on what is within our control can lead to greater happiness and fulfillment.
- Accepting what is beyond our control can help us avoid unnecessary suffering and anxiety.
- Mindfulness is a practice that involves paying attention to the present moment without judgment.
- Developing self-awareness can help us live a more fulfilling life.
- Self-awareness can help us identify negative patterns of thinking and behavior and make positive changes.
- Viewing the world from a cosmic perspective can help us gain perspective and reduce our attachment to external events.
- Developing a sense of detachment can help us live a more fulfilling life.
- The practice of viewing the world from a cosmic perspective can help us stay focused on what is truly important.
- Contemplating our own mortality can help us live a more meaningful life.
- The Stoics believed that reflecting on death can help us appreciate the value of each moment.
- Living in accordance with our values can help us find fulfillment and purpose.
- Acting virtuously, treating others with kindness, and being mindful of our role in society are central tenets of Stoic ethics.
- The concept of oikeiôsis emphasizes the importance of extending our sense of compassion and concern beyond ourselves.
- Living in accordance with Stoic ethics can help us find greater fulfillment and purpose in life.
- Developing resilience can help us bounce back from setbacks and adversity.
- The Stoics believed in the power of reason to help us overcome challenges.
- Cultivating a resilient mindset can help us face challenges with greater confidence and strength.
- Stoic principles can be applied in modern therapy, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).
- The practice of mindfulness and other Stoic techniques can help us overcome negative patterns of thinking and behavior.
- Applying Stoic principles in our lives can help us find greater happiness and fulfillment.

Of course the content is looking all the same, it's by design. Chat GPT is not meant to output the most creative stuff, it is meant to output the most plausible stuff. Though I have made it dream up some insane stories including one about a NYC rat who became a well-known pest control specialist thanks to using a special technique for tricking the cockroaches to leave the house; it involved cheese crumbles and coral reefs.

In terms of writing code, the fact that ChatGPT can write working code at all is stunning. It is a text model, not a code-writing Ai.

I'm asking the guy who was underwhelmed with GPT. Maybe he used the inferior 3.5
I used the free version to summarise one of my forum threads. It missed the point of what the thread was about.

That's the older version. If you want, link to a thread and I'll use my own GPT-4 subscription to get a summary and post it here for you.

I can't remember what thread it was. I'll try and find one the older version didn't summarise well.
