point taken lol. What do you recommend starting off?

This thread is literally a 30 page guide of how to start a web development agency from start to finish, including what training to do.

If you don't want to take the time to read the thread... I've got bad news for you.

I love Bluehost. Whenever there's a problem, I pick up the phone, get someone on the line and we fix it. They offer one price for unlimited domains and unlimited data storage. When one of my sites got attacked I thought I'd have to build it from scratch. I called Bluehost and they were able to retrieve files that weren't affected. After some minor PHP work I was able to get the site up and going again.

I'm sure there are a lot of companies that offer the same products. For me peace of mind is paramount. I've been with Bluehost since 2009? 2010ish? And every time we had an issue, we were able to resolve it quickly. A company that consistently offers high value service has my business.

I am loving this thread! I am about to get back into the website building saddle to get an income to tide me over until my membership website is up and running, and this information is pure gold.

@Fox when you bring in salesmen, how do they go about selling?

From what I understood you first analyze a website and create sort of a detailed report on how they could improve.

But when you bring in a salesman, who presumably doesn't know much about it, what do you do then?

Do you train them on how to find websites in need of revamp? What do they do, and at which point you take over?

Read through this entire thread, AMAZING information in here. I just bought the UDEMY course and hope to have it finished by next week. I already contacted a family member and got them to agree to have their website redesigned, so that's my first project right there. Thank you very much to Fox and Andy for sharing such useful information!

In an effort to provide some value, to those who still need to buy the UDEMY course you can use code "JAN2202" to get 95% off, which means the course is only $10.

Ok i've read a couple pages of this thread and i think it's amazing. I actually have been trying to code websites for a while but i really don't seem to get myself making websites. Idk i just suck i think at creating websites. In the other hand i'm creative. I like to describe peoples products. If anyone is the complete opposite of me please for the love of God lets partner up. Lets grow together. As we progress we can help each other. Teach me why i can't seem to make a wb alone. Let me teach you some techniques. Are you afraid to make calls? Don't know Copy Writing? My fear of calling businesses is slowly fading away. I enjoy writing Copy. If you're hungry for action like i am. Please Pm me. We can brainstorm over Skype or FaceTime and talk about how we both can benefit by helping people in need by making them Amazing websites that sale!

Reading a lot of these people posting here wondering why they aren't getting sales, cold calls not working, emails not working, and whinging that they just want a sale of a few thousand dollars and that the potential client should update their website to a responsive website!

Not knocking on anyone in particular but just because you can develop a nice looking website after doing a few courses doesn't mean you should be charging that sort of money for something you don't even know will work!

I was self employed in the construction niche. These are the questions I would ask if somebody wanted to build my website, or "rank me number 1 in google in my city for $800 one off payment"

Have you made a new website that you have ranked high with SEO and analytics to prove it? What websites?
Have you re-built an existing website that has increased SEO position if so what were the ranking changes? What websites?
What websites have you built so I can google them and see if they rank?
Have you run ads, organised backlinks, advertised on blogs, social media, run traffic at sites and split tested the conversions?

Usually web designers do just that....design a website... I don't mean to be rude here, but if you are new and asking somebody for 3k to make them an online brochure about their business that you have no idea generates leads then I think it is a small scam. Unless you know and have tested your theory and have generated more leads and conversion then by all means charge what you feel like, if a website you created, added 5k in a persons pocket each month then the next time you pitch somebody in that niche you can say with conviction and confidence that you generated 5k a month in work for Mr XYZ in the same niche and know you can do the same. Then you can pitch knowing you are actually going to help somebody instead of just winging it and leaving them with a website that does nothing.

Hey guys,

Love this thread, love the content, love the information.

I'm 27, Just finished reading the MF and currently starting to learn how to code.

Which one should i Learn first.... JAVA or C+ ? is HTML the same thing ? Are websites built from HTML Java or C + ?

Got lots of questions, and still reading the thread to get them answered.

Thanks,

It's foolish to think that because I actually like a product, and the service has been consistent enough for me to recommend them all these years, that I'd be on this company's payroll. Before you accused me of being deceitful by sharing my personal experience with this product, you could have reached out and asked. But no, you didn't. Instead, you made a quick judgement based on nothing but your own prejudice.

No, I'm NOT on their payroll. No, I'm not an affiliate. And I've used Godaddy, Hostgater and a bunch of other hosting services. And before you spread more lies on this forum, a forum filled with people I highly respect, reach out and get your facts right @Ninjakid.

I am seeing this also. People read a book on "value pricing" and suddenly think everything they do is 1k minimum. That isn't how it works.

There is enough information in this thread to know when it is right to price high and when to still just be happy that you are getting paid something to learn.

When I start my video thread this is definitely something I will cover.

There is a lot here and some of it has been covered before and other parts are "secret sauce".

In short I hire people who have a great business and are happy to recommend me to their network. They also do cold calls/visits too.

I find it is way better to hire someone who doesn't know about websites for a few reasons - no conflict of interests, better at spotting people who need help (see the business as a business, not a website) and also it allows me to train them better. My second best people are copy guys.

I pay straight commission and all they have to give me is warm leads. Straight commission quickly sorts out who is serious and who is kicking tires.

I still love this thread. But it comes off as too easy so it's gonna attract tire kickers and people who want the exact steps.

Part of what I love about this thread is that it teaches self reliance.

It's not about learning to code: it's about relying on one's own abilities to sell and deliver.

The secret sauce with anything is in finding the customers with the demand you can fill. That's working backwards, though: you want to look for demand and figure out how to fill them. If you don't want to do websites because you're the 10,000th website person in your city, that's fine: you can still use this thread to get started.

@Fox outlined a way to find demands for this particular hustle. He outlined a way to open, sell, and close. He outlined a way to deliver on your promise. But it's for websites. It's for this hustle. You don't have to do this if you feel you can serve some other demand better.

But in general...

If you can find demands, convince a person to trust you, then fulfill your promise... you'll never be without.

If you can do this on a large scale... you'll be rich.

If you can systematize it on a large scale and turn it into an asset... you'll be FREE.

Baby steps.

The-J came through again. At first I thought about adding websites as a part of the services I already offered since I had some understanding of code, but this thread combined with the book and some of my own bumps on the road tells me I need to look at clients and see what that they are missing. For example I was doing work for a bus company and I found the booking system they used was outdated, and the person who makes it is making $$$$ cause others have refused to move to the arena. I called a few other places for grins and found the same thing. There is a need right there, it just needs to be updated(using txt messages and GPS features like uber). Its always money to be made if our eyes are open.

BTW I gave that one above away cause I dont' have the time to work on it.

Repost from the FB group that applies to what you guys just posted. It isn't about selling X, it is solving their issues and helping them achieve their goals :

Someone I am helping just closed a deal that should be worth $30-50k!
It is done by the hour but is well paying and spaced out over 7 months. He sent some great emails, spotted a different need, pivoted and closed and now is managing the project (outsourced). It was amazing to be part of and I can't be happier for him. He also has 3 other jobs in the pipeline.
Amazing hustle!

This guy (who also posts here) spotted a bigger need a big a nice switch. He will proabbly get the website eventually too. We sell results, not code :smile2:.
I don;t want to mention who this is but if they want to chime in on this I would love to see them post their thoughts also.

Hey guys, chiming in thanks for mentioning me

Persistence is key, I started this whole journey in September when I started posting on the forum nothing was happening until I came across this thread and I started DOING. I started the class and programming and learning how to do websites in November without an ounce of critical programming experience outside of my workplace. I closed a few smaller deals along the way and then started targeting niches relevant to my background being a chemist. Which led me to this client which came back to me with another need than a website, but rather a software challenge which I've had minimal experience doing in my job. I started asking around, reached out to people in my network that had programming experience and built up confidence that i was able to do it. You can read more about how my mind set changed and how taking action really does produce results on my progress thread .

As for my other 3 leads I still pushed for sales and changed my tactics of emailing along with awesome conversations between @Andy Black and @Fox and improving tweaking my emails. Getting a good range between 2/3 and 1/2 of warm responses back at this moment which is great news and I now know I'm doing something right!

The deal can be upward to the amount @Fox mentions if it goes the full length of the 7 months and I've punched the numbers with minimal results and its still within that range and its possible for repeat business with this client and If her needs are met I have no doubt i'll get some really good referrals as well. I have to give a shout out to @Jon L who helped me out on this deal and did an awesome job on the phone for me.

As for the other 3, One just emailed me back tonight with a price and is ready to close. I responded with a slight price increase and see how he reacts. As for the other one I know we are on the brink of closing with a solid 4 figure deal and i have a "caller" that will be calling for me tomorrow to close it. The third one has been quiet for some time now, I think they're just busy at the moment but they expressed real interest.

Keep working, keep doing, Its possible... I started with NOTHING less than 6 months ago. I built skills in so many areas and now I have a real opportunity to have a legitimate business.

I hope people can see what is going on here in this sentence. This is what a mindset shift looks like.

There are a lot of mindset shifts required to become successful, but this is a key one.

Very inspiring. Thanks for sharing @jpanarra.

Something you haven't realised yet is that you didn't start from nothing. 6 months ago you had a background as a chemist. You have ADDED to that background and made your high ground even higher.

Well done and onwards and upwards.

5k sales call. First sales call for me this year...

Some context...

- First time I have talked to this client, ever
- Also first call of the year - I am a little rusty and also was working remotely so little bit of a delay (I cut him off once or twice)
- The work was already done with solid emailing. He was already pretty much sold. Either way I always assumer the sale and talk as such
- This jobs is for a person I am helping with web development who couldn't call himself. I have been helping him put together some emails and he lined this up. He found it straight out of a google search
- We used my portfolio since I am helping him and he doesn't currently have his own. Thats what he means when he says "past sites"
- So the next step is to send a plan and a quote. This will be closed for a little below or above the 5k mark, we will go through it and do up a great plan and quote for the client
- My phone calls probably seem very relaxed and not very "saley", this works best in my experience and this is the same approach I use to close huge sales, although I am a little rusty

This is a real life sales call. Needs to be a featured post imo. A rare opportunity for some members who fear cold calls (or even warm calls) to see how actual business works. Brilliant. Rep'd.

Had my first serious call today, noticed the difference.

Was quite nervous right before the call and ended up being a bit too direct without focusing on the needs
of the customer aka money chasing.

Thanks for that, appreciate it!

Excellent call Fox, thank you very much for posting. I learned a lot from that. One question I thought of while listening to it was how do you collect the payment? Do you use PayPal, do you wait for them to send a check? Etc..

This is a call that fox made for me, I use Freshbooks and I usually send an invoice once a client is closed along with a email explaining the actions i will be doing for them. I would suggest you read through this whole thread because he mentioned the same invoicing software as well.
