To preface this I'll introduce myself. My name is Noah, I am a 22 year old apprentice plumber in rural Illinois who is willing to put in as much free time and work as it takes to not have to sling poop for the next 40-50 years. I've started a small YouTube channel in hopes to achieve this dream, but after reading the Millionaire Fastlane I am second guessing my business choice. Creating content on YouTube is simple and tangible work to me, but thinking about starting a business leaves me with a lot of questions. Where can I gain the knowledge I need to understand how to productively work and use my time to further my goals in a way that aligns with the business criteria described in the Millionaire Fastlane ?

Could you hang on and learn your trade so you can start your own plumbing business once learn the trade and have others sling the poop while you run the business? Id guess there nice money in plumbing if you could figure the business end out.

I think you found the right place. Welcome aboard.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years @Noah_ when you are 32, and still, super young?

I am in a position where if I stay put I can become an owner, local business. The issue I have is that the owners are not rich and far from where I would like to be. Still working 40 hour weeks and at job sites.

Read the book Bog Standard Business by Charlie Mullins and then tell me again that Plumbers can't get rich.

Many of the more wealthy humans out there, don't show a clue they have it. They been stacking it in investments, the last 20 to 60 years, including a modest home they paid off versus fancy cars, crazy expensive vacations, clothes and jewelery.

While they may still be involved in slinging poop, they staying on top of their business, saving on labor and making sure done right. I'm sure there are plumbing biz models can be off site.

Maybe they not loaded as different in a rural area, but I'd guess they fine with financial department.

Right here your answer. You read the book, now you probably need to read MJs book Unscripted as well to work on yourself. Immerse yourself in the forum and learn. Maybe find the direction to get out of the poop biz and start other business.

Here is a thread on plumbing business to check out just in case.

Thank you for the thorough response, and I am already half way through unscripted . The rat race is next on my list. These books are almost like a software update in my brain, I always knew what I wanted but never knew where to find it until I stumbled into the forums and MJ's books. Thank you again

That's a tough question. My passion tells me I'll escape my 9-5 and have plenty of free time to enjoy my family and hobbies, living somewhere I choose not somewhere I have to. I'm as green as it gets to entrepreneurship, so right now I'm very unsure of where I'm going to end up.

How much do experienced plumbers earn?

And this will take a lot of hard work and sacrifice, a journey of becoming someone new.

The good news is, your skill as a plumber means you will likely always have a safety net, and something to fall back on. Even working part time at it, helps, while building something better.

No problem, I like you how put that as software update in brain. Im way older and was scripted AF growing up and into early adulthood, I've read the book a few times, take with me on my travels to reference and feel like going through constant software updates with debuggings, reprogramming that is nonstop but feel more evolved as go along and worth the time/effort.

Are you close to Macomb, Illinois, I went to school at WIU and that is for sure rural Illinois.

Funnily enough, one of our Google Ads clients installs toilets. We're running campaigns in 3 counties in the US at present, trying to figure out a strategy that works. If/once we do they want to scale nationally.

Hope it goes well. How would they go national, outsource or they could cover the whole country?

Just a couple hours out. I went to a graduation there last year, nice place.

Nice, I haven't been back since graduated in 93. Heard both Macomb and WIU went to hell due to the collapse of WIU. In early 90s was like 16k students now only like 7k and created economic decline for Macomb. I'm still curious to go back and visit, loved my time at WIU/Macomb.

That's the only thing keeping me here, plumbers are needed everywhere and I'm already halfway through my 4 years before the exam

Start something that can HELP or provide VALUE to somebody. Even if it's complete crap, it's a start.

You don't need to figure out how to create floating cars or be the next Nikola Tesla, look at Scrub Daddy. Watch Shark Tank & take notes, most of these successful businesses are very simple but provide some sort of value.

Use platforms like Udemy to brush up on some fundamental business stuff (copywriting, shopify set-up etc.) & implement it. Learn the basics of marketing & how to sell.

This is all action that will culminate in something greater. Fail often, you will have many failures. Don't be afraid of this (just don't put yourself in a position to go bankrupt).

In between taking action, READ, READ, READ. Replace one time suck (video games, choking the chicken) and learn a new skill relevant to business.
