Kuda, I can definitely relate to your post. It's exactly what I had been and still am going through ever since I turned 18 (turning 23 in a couple of days) and I can honestly say that I have 2 good friends.

Truth is, most people our age just want to drink, party, get girls, and repeat. There are plenty of benefits in friends, but a lot of disadvantages as well. The biggest disadvantage is that some are just there to waste our 'time'. Personally, I've been more productive when I haven't had friends than when I had plenty and I don't know if you've ever heard of this one, "the less friends you have, the less bullshit you deal with". I've been happier, more successful, no disturbance and there hasn't been anyone to hold me back (some friends are incredibly good at this and I have had loads of them).

I would suggest that you interact with people though, that's how you find like-minded individuals. I've grown up with the 2 friends I have and I am thankful that we are all in pursuit of the fastlane. Talk to people, attend trade fairs, fastlane meetups, etc. Having an older friend or one who has been doing the business you are interested in (successfully) can be beneficial as they can give you advice and all (mentorship). Having a like minded friend or one that is equal to you can be beneficial because you challenge one another, come up with ideas, etc. Having a friend who is like-minded and or below you is also a good idea as you can then teach them, coach them, but at the same time keep you motivated.

I'm not ashamed to say that I have 2 friends and some acquaintances. Don't be too concerned, just focus on your future. Are you working this hard to gain friends? Are you losing sleep so people like you? I would rather have no friends than get caught up in a bad friendship, that thing drains your energy man. Get your paper and you'll tell me how many people want to be your friend.

Thanks for the kind words. I like to believe that luck is not necessary here since to quit my job I'd be willing to live off just 1000 dollars a month, which in my opinion is a very down to earth achievable number that i will reach as long as i just keep making apps and don't stop.
I live in NYC by the way, not the cheapest place to live by a long shot.

I didn't mean luck in the sense of "Irish luck" rather serendipity.

I also used to live in NYC very expensive, I live in central nj now

You are so right its not because I don't have friends but my old friends aren't really my friends now. After graduating I wanted something better for myself. Somehow I bumped into millionaire fast lane then I realised I had spent my college days drinking and getting girls it felt like that was the only thing there was to life. after reading the book I decided I want to change hence the first thing i had to do was go back home. I knew this way I would have no distraction, since crumble to pressure easily. Actually have spend the last 6 months working hard learning programming and researching my future business. Secured a job which most graduate can only dream to get. Being paid to learn I can't complain about that. The only thing which keeps me going sometimes is knowing I have more money than my friends. I know its bad you shouldn't compare yourself to people but it does actually make you feel good lol. I just feel like I can't hang around with my old friends now because i want something better than just living an average life where you can just afford to pay bills and occasionally have money for drinks.

LOL i thought it would be frowned upon to "self promote" the app on the forum!
I'd love to share it!
It's called What's Kim Looking At
I Read Millionaire Fastlane in 2012, Graduated college a year and a half ago in 2013 at 23, got analyst job, looked at the cubicle, assessed the situation, and pretty soon after proceeded focusing my energy on app development and everything to do with it.

Push forward a year and a half and most likely hundreds of hours and sleepless nights at home and at work, I learned more about app development than i could have imagined.

Let me tell you,
in 2013 I graduated college, partied at 3 clubs for first time in my life, lost my virginity to an escort, got laid on my 24th birthday party at home, got a 32k 40 hour a week job paying more than i ever made in my life.(average college grad heaven?)

in 2014 i did almost absolutely nothing except
a)work at my job
b)work on my app stuff
c)tiny tiny tiny bit leisure time with sports and working out

Long story short 2014>>>>>2013 as far as my future success is concerned
by a long shot.

It is now january 22nd 2015, 3 days ago I have published my very first game app in my life on google play and the iphone version is waiting for submission once my similar minded coworker/artist designer friend uploads the artwork to itunes connect.
My second game app that I have been working on for literally all of 2014 is almost done and will be my first masterpiece. It's been a powerful learning experience, and I've been pretty mentally burned out but I'm HAPPY(but not satisfied) because I'm on the right path.

Personally, i can barely even do any leisure activities anymore without feeling like im wasting my time... I can't party because i know no money is being made while im at the club... replace "party" with any activity and i feel the same way.

I relax when i sleep and i do workout(at home).

I had the same "fears" as you regarding wasting my youth, but all that went away once i truly LET GO, basically accepted that im either gonna get rich or die trying, NOTHING ELSE F*ckIN MATTERS, PERIOD.(its a gradual process, takes time but ull get there if ur serious)

P.S. what's wrong with programming anyway?

It's a free app but has a banner ad at the bottom in the game to make money.
I got the idea for it awhile back before I even knew about The Interview, but now that it caused all this political controversy I was nudged by a friend or 2 to actually make it and try to cash in.
Of course I don't have marketing experience or an interest in marketing so now i have a pretty humorous app that nobody knows about.
I'd be more than happy to trade a percentage of app earnings for some much needed exposure.
I figured that if the Fart App was raking in 20k a day, then it's gotta be possible, and all id need is 1k a month to quit my job and sustain myself while making more apps.
Kinder feels like you were talking about me there. That's exactly how my life is going at the moment. Nothing wrong with programming but some people think its a waste of time you should be spending your time finding people's needs and serving those needs. Its debatable argument.

Yea i've went through that thought process regarding needs, and my conclusion was that "entertainment" is a need.

In fact the whole app thing fits CENTS pretty darn well.

Need - entertainment. Sex is a form of entertainment. The average person spends what he needs on necessities like bills, food, insurance. The rest of it goes on entertainment. In way isn't that what life is all about? why be rich if ur not gonna entertain urself with all the great things that money can get u. I make video game apps, and video games are the biggest entertainment industry in the world. Apps are less than 10 years old, i still have a chance to get in there and entertain some people :)

Entry - It's true that apps have saturated google play and istore, but its also true that a ton of them are garbage.
Also to even release a garbage app you still have to go through the publishing process.
Making a decent app takes a lot of effort because if u only focus on the technical side of things and ignore the art, ur app is gonna look like shit.
That's why i have a graphic designer partner who also happens to be my one of my coworkers at work(networking baby)
He takes care of all the art and visual design for 5% of any profits.
I see this as a long term business relationship so i have no problem with such a split, and as i said before all i need is 1000 a month to quit my job and be happy to start with. Also I have no eye or passion for such visual design so having this partner is a godsend to me.

The What's Kim Looking At app that i released took about a month to create from start to finish, and most of that time was spent creating the content, and learning some new UI features of the program that i use to make the apps(Unity3D).
I've been working on a simple zombie shooting game for over a year now with a unique gameplay mechanic, and i hope it takes off, but regardless of what happens, I'm learning so much stuff it's amazing. It did help to have taken computer engineering in college.

Control-This is the only weakness to publishing apps for android and apple, u have 0 control over their stores. If they for whatever reason deny ur app, ur F*cked. Thankfully I'm not planning to make porn apps anytime soon, and my apps are free with ads, which makes things even simpler. As long as i don't do something crazy, there's no reason for apple or google to remove any apps i make. its win win for everybody involved.

Scale-google play, istore -> millions and millions of people who own androids and iphones, and with the Indian market poised to explode with smartphones, its gonna get even better.

Time- Another beauty, while i have no control over the google/apple stores, its in their own best interests to make sure their stores are fully functional and managed at all times, which means i don't have to concern myself with managing my shit. My focus is 100% on making fun content, and keeping it updated if necessary.
That Kim app i published on android, i don't have to lift a finger to do anything else with it(marketing is a different story).

Any holes in my thought process, 1000/month seems pretty damn achievable in a reasonable time span(<5 years)
