Bought a duplex and rented out the other side when I was 20. Now im 22, i dont pay rent and other people pay me to live for free.

Started learning about online business when I was 17/18, now im making a legitimate income from working at it for so long and starting to understand it.

Started working out when i was 14 - taught me the discipline/work ethic I needed to create the physique I wanted that directly applies to building a business.

Reading and learning consistently from people who have been there before me. TMF is a great example, led me to the summit, led me to people that have helped me a ton.

Finding a mentor who literally broke it all down for me, showed me where i was being stupid, and pointed me in a direction to succeed and continues to teach me.

No bs either, buying the INSIDERS subscription. Theres a couple threads in there that are literally a blue print that you can follow and adopt to your process (not copy) that help a TON

One of the best business decisions I ever made was purchasing a product line that was fully patented with a large social following and email list. I essentially shifted from selling services (sorry this will keep you on the slow lane) to selling a product online 24/7/365. I had always sold other peoples products and services by doing marketing for them. Now I do marketing for MYSELF.

Its been 6 months since I made the change and the $/hr is WAY better then when I was doing 20k/mo doing services for other with no time.

The best decision you ever made ?

I went to secret meeting with a secret purpose at a hotel offered by a stranger on the internet.

Dang it, just kidding.

Easy question for me... moving to Phoenix from Chicago. The sunshine changed everything.

Dropped my life in Asia, flew to US, bought a $500 car, drove to Texas through the night and found a place to sublet on craiglist, then proposed to Mrs G-man sitting on a park bench with a $50 etsy ring.

Taking my business idea seriously. Last June I dedicated my time to reading books and planning for this business. I officially kicked things off in Feb and I recently regained my starting expenses. My life is changing for the better. I can feel myself reaching "I don't give a f***" mode. The good one

Mine was to quit one of the most secure jobs with one of the most secure companies. I worked at HP and was working my way through the management ranks. Everyone thought I was a fool to leave that job.

I'm turning 30 in 4 days.

Hard to pick the best decisions of my life but I'll give a few that seem to me like they qualify.
(These all relate directly to my business / entrepreneurship even if they don't seem like it):
  • Dedicating myself to Classical Piano in college (when friends & family thought it was insane.)
  • Starting my Tutoring Biz (when friends & family thought it was insane.)
  • Learning to ride motorcycles (when friends & family thought it was insane.)
  • Riding a 33-year-old motorcycle from Austin to NYC, to meet the girl who broke my heart (this was insane).
  • Opening my first physical office (this felt insane and terrifying). Likewise for hiring my first part-time employee.
  • Learning to appreciate my parents and stay on good terms with them (they used to drive me insane.)
  • Starting my SaaS company in 2017 (when I thought I was going insane.)

Notice any trend????

I don't recall seeing a progress thread for this venture...

I'm sure there is some gold somewhere in that story.

Taking @Vigilante's advice and just getting shit done. No excuses, no bullshit. Took me 2 years to get to that point, but I'm still well on my journey.

I've made many decisions and changes to my life, so I can't say any one decision is the best. However, I will mention make mention of a few of the most important things which have helped me in business, and as a person, in no order of importance.

Fastlane Forum, and reading the Millionaire Fastlane .

The book is definitely the best book I have read on entrepreneurship, and the people on this forum always give me the motivation and insight on how to succeed.

Fitness.

When I was 17 or 18, I was in a real slump as I didn't seem to be going anywhere with my life. One of my family friends told me (rather harshly) that by not engaging in rigorous physical activity, I was doing myself a great disservice by not training my body. Which was true. I usually felt weak and my brain was usually in a fog. So I immediately started going for runs, doing bodyweight exercises, and lifting weights. I joined a taekwondo school, and started again from white belt, telling myself this was a new start for me. I become noticeably more muscular, stronger, had faster reflexes, more self-confidence. I made it my goal that I was going to join the Canadian special forces, so I worked on training myself to excel physically, and mentally, by not allowing myself to give up just cuz I'm tired, submerging myself in ice-water, eating raw eggs (which seemed gross to me before), thrusting my hands into bowls of scalding hot rocks, etc. etc. However, I lost the desire to join the military, which was probably a good thing, because looking back on it I don't think it's right for me. However, staying strong and healthy is a regular part of my routine. I practice martial arts religiously, and recently got into powerlifting. Your body is your avatar in this world (your champion, for those of you who play League of Legends), so take care of it, and be continuously improving it, or leveling up).

Practicing the Wim Hof Method.

For those of you who don't know, this method is a breathing technique that was taught by Wim Hof, who held the Guinness World Record for the longest ice bath, and has performed other stunts like climbing Mount Everest in shorts and no shirt, and diving in super-freezing water under ice to come back up through another side. I've started following the method, and the results have been breath-taking (pun intended). As I have mentioned here before, I was diagnosed with Tourettes, and one of the annoying symptoms I face is having an absurd amount of energy, and being unable to concentrate. It's like being on speed, but every second of the day and it doesn't go away. I have found exercise and meditation to be incredible helpful for relaxing my body and honing my mind, but this method taught me how to use the power of BREATHING, and has made my meditations far more vivid and lively. Needless to say it's one of the best things I have discovered recently.

Living like a Shaolin monk.

A Shaolin monk spends his day meditating, praying, and honing his skills to perfection. He doesn't have bullshit in his life taking away his attention. He's one hundred percent focused on what he is doing, and as such, he attains mastery. I have adopted a similar lifestyle. I don't waste my time going out partying, drinking, browsing facebook or snapchat, or socializing with people who drain my energy. I've made the decision that distracting bullshit has no place in my life, and I will spend all my time focusing on what makes me better.

These thing have made my life tremendously better, and if you're in a slump, try them out for yourself and see how your life improves.

Being myself.

Life's too short to be living it for someone else.

Age 14-17: "Why are you always talking about business?"
Age 18: "Why don't you just party and drink and just get a job after college?"
Age 19: "Oh, you sold your first business. That's kind of cool, but are you thinking about interning?"
Age 20: "Why'd you stop being friends with so many people? You should never burn bridges." (Mostly cut out drug addicts, bad influences, people holding me down, and people that are fake. Also started being myself in social interactions. It's easier to find friends that match your personality than to transition into someone you're not.)
Age 21: "Why are you planning to graduate early? If you stay another year, you'll have another 3 degrees."
Age 22: "Why don't you just get a job and move out of your parents place? I know you want to invest cash in your business, but you can do that later."
Age 23: "Hahaha. You still haven't gotten a job? And three of your ventures failed? Dude, just get a sales job for $40k and move on. You're smarter than that."
Age 24: "Wow. How do you like running your own business? Is that hard?" -- Things started coming together, I had a lot more money and freedom than friends. Also liked what I was doing, whereas a lot of them were obviously unhappy.
Age 25 aka NOW: "So you're on vacation? Oh, you're working but living abroad? Ok, but when are you coming back to Chicago? I know you said January 1st 2018, but really - when are you coming back? It's already been three months. How's your business doing? Your clients are fine with you being abroad? You're living off of tax money? Thanks for the invite, but I can't take off work. I'm starting to get face time with execs. Why didn't you visit these countries? If I was you then I would've gone here. Why are you dating Asian girls? White girls are so much hotter. Oh, you're in Poland now? Why don't you go to France? But really, when are you coming back?"

Becoming a father.

Changing my life through books.

Mindset by Carol Dweck that thought me a I have a static mindset but that I could change it to a growth mindset.
The Millionaire Fastlane and Early Retirement Extreme that thought me there are ways out of the rat race.
Give and Take by Adam Grant that thought me that one can be successfull by giving.
A guide to the good life - the Ancient Art of Stoic Joy by Villiam Irvine and Antifragile by Nassim Taleb but I dont know why..

Decided to learn how to build websites by helping an out of work electrician instead of taking a web design course.

This was the key turning point for me in many ways:

1) It got me out of IT contracting which was 100% slowlane, and into something that showed me almost immediately how I could divorce my time from income.

2) I "fluked" my way out of the slowlane learning loop and straight into the "do whatever it takes to add value (aka help someone)" mindset.

3) It taught me that you don't need to be an "expert" to say "Yes" and help someone, and get paid.

4) It's helped me gain a particular skillset that businesses are prepared to pay for.

Here's the main takeaway:

Really interesting man. Love the story.

How did you get to a point where you had the monies available to buy a duplex?

I saved my money from my job if you make 2k/mo and save 1k/mo you'd have enough by the end of the year. (depending on where you live. Using an FHA loan you can put 3.5% down and i put that down on a 155k duplex.)

The decision to learn html when I was around 13. First website was a DragonballZ website haha. This led to figuring out ways I could monetize sites, internet marketing, et. HTML was probably the catalyst that opened me up to the world of entrepreneurship down the road -- and the idea of freedom.

Oh yeah, and the decision to listen to Jim Rohn. That guy is awesome.

I still remember the moment I decided to read and googled things like "how to be financially free" or "entrepreneurship 101"

....long story short. That's how I found The Millionaire Fastlane .

All my decisions on life are based on principles of TMF and it will forever affects me:

  • Instead of wasting your time on 9-6 Job, It opened my eyes that there's more to life than by just punching your time card.
  • Instead of spending money on sh*t things that I don't really need, It taught me to be disciplined and treating your money as soldiers.
  • Instead of wasting my time on bitches or relationshits which holds me back, I learned to say NO! and value my time more. Spend it only with the right people.
  • Instead of getting drunk with buddies on FRIDAY night after work, I rather use the time to improve my areas which I needed to improve.
  • Instead of getting envious on my friend's fake lifestyle posts on Facebook, I learned not to give a F*ck on those silly things.
  • Instead of belittling my circumstances because I lived in a third world country (Philippines), I used it as a fuel and see more opportunities I needed to offer in my country.
and so on! That one major decision I made( Which Is To Better Myself ), completely change everything I see in life.

1. Applying and getting a job with Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) out of school. Big 5 consulting world is grad school on steriods with a paycheck. Since then I have been with a 2 small consulting companies and most recently KPMG. Invaluable skill sets for entrepreneur world.
2. Buying a multi million $ retail business in a mountain town I love, which in turn I had to sell at a major loss during the banking crises
3. Getting back into the retail game, learning from past lessons.

Having grit, living life to the fullest while continuing to move forward learning from challenges (some call failures). Calculated risks. Expanding your hobby/passions to coincide with business life. Have passion. Show up. Take notes, always take notes (mentally, physically, however). Pay attention.

A few months ago having a discussion with a friend about how I didn't like my job or the work culture of investment banking. Found out she's making 6 figures doing website design + SEO for local businesses and working very few hours. Really blew my mind and a lot of lights went off for me that it was even possible.

Since then, it's inspired me to fly through entrepreneurial books and learn every day.
