Saw a strange result I thought I'd share.

So I have this client. It's been a client for a few months, four weeks ago we added three new services pages to his site. Put them in a drop down in the menu. Pretty standard stuff for me, been doing this for years.

But instead of ranking the service page for the keyword, Google has started ranking the homepage. From what I can tell, it's still not indexing any of the new pages, but the home page has been ranking for 2 weeks.

I'll keep an eye on this, and report back any results that I figure out. But I'm wondering if anyone else has any ideas?

Maybe Google sees the homepage as the more holistic and complete result for that service, since it also mentions and links to the other two service pages (which I assume are closely related).

Is it possible that people who search for service A actually want service B or C, but they confused the two? If that happens often, Google might be trying to send them to a more general page where they can see all 3 services side by side and then decide between them. Possibly realizing their mistake in mixing up two different but related services.

Pure speculation on my part. Let us know what changes!

Ads kept getting disapproved for a new client.

We raised an appeal with Google but didn't want to wait for ages to hear from them.

We created a new account and created the landing page on a completely different domain, and now ads are getting approved.

Speaking to our hosting guy, he thinks the IP address of the first website we used is shared by someone else's website that Google flagged as suspicious, meaning we're in a "bad neighbourhood" even though there's nothing wrong with our site.

Hopefully that's done the trick.
