Recently I read Unscripted by @MJ DeMarco, several years after reading The Millionaire Fastlane . I want to note that reading Unscripted could not have came into my life at a better time in my life.
Several years ago, I stepped out on a limb and tried full time entrepreneurship. It did not go as planned, no yacht (I still have my eyes on a large Chris Craft fully restored) no private flights etc. Instead I got depression, fear, uncertainty and doubt. Fast forward to today and my wife and I are closing in on the home stretch to our first house flip.
I will spare all the details that have lead up to this point but it has not been easy. We definitely have been choosing hard, excellently discussed in the book Choose Hard, and the rewards will pay exponentially when this house sells. I did the math last night and since closing on this house and beginning the rehab, IF I put in the maximum time needed for it myself, I will be making around 2600$ an hour. I will likely be making more "per hour" than that however.
I wanted to simply open a discussion to the fact that in a moments notice, that life can obviously change for the worst, but more importantly can change for the better. This is the first of many houses for us, we have been putting CENTS principles into building systems, hiring incredible people to help us carry this project and slowly build out part/full-time employee lists.
Three years ago my wife and I were considering bankruptcy and yet here we are today looking at the math to see when we could step into this business full time. Life really is about the choices that you make. I have hit several roadblocks to get this business up and off the ground, I always try to look at how to properly get around them and typically do find a way often in unexpected areas.
Never give up on yourself, if it seems like hard decision or task, it's likely what you need to be doing. The bottom if you ever find yourself on rock-bottom is only the foundation. As Jimmy Hendrix once said, "Castles made of sand fall into the sea eventually". I'd rather be building my house on rock instead of sand wouldn't you?
