got online to 14 notifications...damn (in a positive way LMAO)

Before I reply to y'all, I just wanted to say that I really appreciate your guys' support. You're my only positive feedback loop at the moment (aka the only thing that doesn't scream "No"), so to speak.

Now to the repyling:
My bad. I wasn't clear.

When someone "spots" something amiss in your motives then it's often because they're projecting their own thoughts onto you.

A couple of years ago someone apparently took offense to me saying "Good for you" when I replied to something they'd done. I meant it as "Well done" whereas they took it as me being sarcastic. I was upset about the miscommunication for a while then realised the problem was with how *they* saw things. They maybe say "Good for you" when they're being sarcastic so assumed I was doing the same.

That old lady is suspicious because of the way she thinks. So long as your heart was in the right place then the issue is with how she thinks.

Hence me saying her perception isn't your reality. You went out to help them, she thought you were up to something, but that doesn't change your motives.

Maybe allow yourself to feel sorry for her that she sees the world that way, and try not to let it get to you.

And bear in mind some people have been burned in the past so have their guard up. It's not personal.
Thank you for the explanation!
I read your answer on my phone before bed yesterday (I couldn't react since it wasn't logged into the account) and it made me feel a lot better.
I was already feeling way better yesterday evening and even felt like I could get going again, definitely also thanks to your answer.
Just need to get going again!
I like the idea of the Facebook Business Page. In addition, you could try to give them some kind of Info Sheet when they ask about your number or Website -> Just use the Facebook address. Put a logo and Business name on top so it looks a bit more legit. (I wouldn't get business cards at least not at the moment. )

You could also go to a copy shop and have them print your logo as a sticker for your bucket. But don't overcomplicate this. Just that your potential customers have a visual clue and don't think you're a scammer or want to rob them.

Being from Austria myself I know that people in our countries are more often than not very suspicious. I think this is your main problem at the moment. Ask them if you can clean One or Two windows for free (in exchange for feedback and testimonials you can add to your info sheet).

I hope this helps a bit. Keep working and don't let your family and environment bring you down !
Thank you for the idea!
I'll get my business registrated first (more on that on a later post) and then will set up Facebook/google business. In relation to the online business site, I found out that you can just go clean at your friends' places and let them leave a review for you. That way you can gather some momentum...

"Keep working and don't let your family and environment bring you down !"
Thank you very much. More on that topic in a later post...
Congratulations for being persistent! That's a very good sign.

It seems like getting new customers is the hardest part of this endeavor, so try to get people to subscribe to your services, so you clean the windows every few weeks (instead of doing it just once). By doing this your customer base will grow month by month and you will spend less time trying to sell and more time actually doing the job and earing money.

Advertising your services through the web for your local area might also be a good idea.

Please be very careful when cleaning windows at the higher floors.

;)
Thank you for the tips and encouragement!
Today I realised that getting customers probably won't even be the hardest part... (more on that on a later post...)

"Please be very careful when cleaning windows at the higher floors."
I'm working with an extension pole so no worries and thanks! ;)

first of all : Respect, you did it!
Imo in Germany its quite hard to start that business. I have an idea about that. As I dont want to spread it, if you are interested, send me a PM and lets have a conversation!
Thank you!
I'll dm you some time, I have to learn for a class test after this so I currently don't have too much time!
Haha, you're going to grow thicker skin over the years. And when it comes to YOUR business, what your family thinks or says doesn't mean shit.

The reality is, people are intimidated by what you're doing. Fortunately, you're at the perfect age to disregard their "advice" and do what you gotta do anyway.

Also, don't argue with them. I did that when I was your age and it would often lead to 5-6 adults collectively exercising their feelings of inadequacy and low self-esteem on me. Huge waste of brain cells.

"I'm just looking out for you" or "I'm saying this for your own good" was something I heard a lot. Don't fall for it.
This post really resonated with me today (more on that on a later pos-
It's indeed really painful long term to have people be against your idea and push their gross and depressive hyperrealities/"ideals" onto me.
It's like a zombie telling you how to live.
Rejection stings. You'll eventually figure out that 99% of the motivation behind people's decisions is social status, so it makes sense that people don't like anything where they are rejected.

The solution here is immersion therapy where you just keep getting rejected until the sting is minor. It never fully goes away, but it becomes so small that you just ignore it.

Six doors at a time isn't enough. Go for 20 and try to get up to 100+.

Thank you for the words!
I did actually knock on 42 doors in a day in a previous post btw ;)
Though I have to agree on that specific day. It indeed was a bit too little.

We'll win eventually!

You said you're going to register a company soon. I can only assume someone in your family that wants to be "safe" gave you this advice.

I wouldn't do that. You're 16 and only getting CASH from your clients. Nobody expects a receipt and you won't be sending any invoices anytime soon.

It would be unlikely for you to get into legal trouble or anything of the sort. Many tradesmen (electricians, roofers, window cleaners, etc) live off cash and they either don't have a registered entity OR they grossly underreport their earnings (as a result, they pay less tax). And they get away with it.

To add to that, we're talking thousands and thousands of euros here, not the pocket money you're making.

My advice for you is to just focus on consistently knocking on a lot of doors at the moment and working on your pitch — and your social skills with strangers in general. The advice you received about creating a Facebook page and business cards is MUCH more important and will make you feel more professional and confident when you're out there doing your thing.

Treat this for what it is - a hustle that will get you some pocket money for you to invest later on. And, most importantly, a hustle through which you'll develop sales skills that will put you way ahead of the curve in the coming years.

I believe Germany is really strict about it. And btw, my parents gave me the opposite advice ("don't registrate").
I don't know but I just really want to be on the safe site. Germany is as I said pretty strict. Also, I've even been asked so far about my business registration.
Also, don't worry about me stopping!
I'll obviously still go out while trying to registrate it.
Thank you for the heads up though!

If everything works out, I'll actually attempt to make this as a business first (with employers and stuff, but gotta see), so I can then do some more expensive/higher entry business attempts.

(to anyone wondering why I am writing at this hour in Germany (10am), I can't go to school because my sickness worsened this morning. Not going out today...)

Whats up?
(following wall of text is kinda miscellaneous, tl;dr exists down below)
I was scared of somebody asking me how I'm doing.

Here's what's happened since the last time I postet in this thread.

Mid-December 2022

I had just become healthy again after whatever disease I had and had kinda lost the momentum.
It was snowing, cold and I struck to lame excuses.
"Oh, I don't have that Unger tip yet. Also I need a smaller squeegee"
"Oh, the weather is just so shit. It has literally snown! Nobody will want me"
" I will start tomorrow"

In fact, to this day I haven't even yet ordered the things from excuse #1.

Late-December 2022 to early January 2023

Winter vacation had just begun and I wasn't on a holiday.
Pre-story for what I want to tell:
I've been wanting to enter a huge music composition competition but I just slacked and slacked on it.
The deadline for it was for early january and I started around the 22th of december (way too late!!).
/end
I finally got to work during the holiday season and it was a recipe for disaster.
I would wake up, straight up go the basement and work for hours on end. After that I'd take a nap because I just couldn't function any further. After the nap, I'd continue. I did that for 10 days, everyday.
After every next day, the willpower swindled more and more and I worked less and less.
I remember that on new year's eve I was still working. I could hear the fireworks outside while working and I knew that my friends were doing some fun dumb shit somewhere and that my family was outside as well. Even after I eventually crawled out of my cave to "celebrate" new year's eve (it was depressing), I got back to work as soon as it was over.

We had a holiday planned for the 2th of January and I only had ONE day left. I was working the day long to finish and even worked until 5:30am (because we had planned to leave the house at that time) and finished it.
I was having so many problems while composing that piece and hadn't even ever written for the selected instruments before. I could write 4 chunks of text to explain the troublesome process and struggles but I don't think you care too much about that. You see, I just didn't want to regret not having composed anything. Nevertheless, I don't think I'll be able to win it.
I don't think I will get away with cramming everything into the last few days again.

The holidays after I finished the piece:
I was exhausted after 10 days of non-stop hard work, so I was hoping that the following holidays could help me relax a bit. Sadly, the holidays didn't do that. I already had the feeling that they'd turn to shit before they started and I was right. I won't go into detail. I'll just say that when they ended, I was feeling as before or even worse. No, I was feeling worse. After the holidays ended and school started again, I was even more tired and not refreshed.

From 10th of January 2023 to today

I still didn't work on the business during that time. I don't know why. I'm too tired rn to think of why exactly (this weekend, I had abysmal sleep). Nothing too notable happened during this time.
I was on a choir trip this weekend (also the reason why I'm only replying right now).
Well, we were singing and stuff. I guess I also tried to socialise (which I definitely managed on a surface level?). I (for some reason) had comically bad sleep. I have to chuckle at how stupid my sleep quality was LOL.
One evening (yesterday), we were having a party(?) and I tried to fit in/have fun as well, but I just really struggled.
I was thinking to myself "Are these people really having fun here?? Am I just weird?"
Like, my age group was just chatting and kind of going with the beat with their bodies and I tried to do the same and almost died of cringe after a few minutes (not because of them, but because of me failing to "vibe"). And with everbody else I really wasn't able to connect on a deeper level than "Yeah, Ninjago season 4 was really good". It really makes me wonder if there is something wrong with me.
Like, the only people I really vibe with are my therapist, piano teacher and music teacher.
Whatever.

(tl;dr)
I'm not really able to put it exactly into words, but in short, I'm sad that I didn't work on the business.
And something that makes me even more sad is that I have to tell that YOU. I feel like I'm betraying you after all your support. I will continue to work on it again but I'm honestly just a bit unsure of the future and if it will work out (e.g. time-management-wise). I have FTE reminders almost every day. For example, a few days ago I heard from a choir mate that he has OVER 10 HOURS of school on some day (I'll need to face the same if I do high school), so I definitely have a fire burning up my a$$, but it's still kinda hard.
(tl;dr end)

I've been also working on something else that could allow me to break my devil's cycle (but ironically worsened it while I was working on it). When I have finally figured it out, a guide will follow.

So yeah, that's all I've been doing.
I hope you forgive me for slacking on the probably most important thing in my life...

edit: I reworked the intro.
original intro:
I'm actually very often a bit anxious when somebody asks me how I'm doing. But this ^ question makes me even more anxious. It's not just an uncomfortable moment when somebody asks you how you're doing like normally. This time it's more shame and dissappointment (in my self, by myself).

It really makes me wonder if there is something wrong with me.
Nothing is wrong with you. You're just growing wiser.

Everyone here has asked themselves this question. Keep going, and don't let these temporary setbacks stop you.

It doesn't matter how slow you go, as long as you're going.

I hope you forgive me for slacking on the probably most important thing in my life...
Don't beat yourself for it now. What's gone is gone. Now focus on being accountable.

Haha, I used to think I was the master slacker. Guess we all go through that phase.

The adapter for the pole and squeegee finally came and so I wanted to knock on doors again but I tested my skills before that and realised that I F*cking sucked at polework. The pole also kind of sucks because it doesn't lock in place properly...and so I didn't do anything that day...
I'll see about tomorrow...

While that's out of service, could you potentially just offer a "first-floor window makeover" package that's quick and a good price for you and the client?

If someone showed up and told me they could make all my immediately visible windows shine like the day they left the factory for 100$ and in 30 minutes I'd be inclined to take it. If they like your work enough, they'll then see they have the other windows that now look bad by comparison, so an upsell at that point is a natural step.

wax on, wax off! I washed windows in HS one time; went to an apartment complex and didn't know I was not supposed to be on the property without mgmt approval! I had one lady open the door and didn't make eye contact as I gave her my pitch. She said, "I don't use my windows much." I kept selling and got the job. Ended up she was blind and I did the best job I could anyway! Make the sale and be confident.

That was a plot twist

Thank you for the encouragement!

I actually went hustling last saturday for the first time this year. The first guy I started off with a joke and it was okay. My problem with him was his response: "It's still too early this year, it's also kinda raining".
I didn't have a comeback to the "too early" response and my "rain" response wasn't so smooth and confident. Then I did a few doors after that and I got less confident each time, less convincing as well.

Confidence is something I definitely gotta work on, you're right.
Thank you!

Ps^: this is kinda cursed if you read it enough times.

Thank you for your message!
I believe that my ability for this kind of side hustle is kind of bad. I can't drive a car to carry around my equipment with me and get my own a$$ around. I have to resort to trains/foot.
Something that also *really* bugs me is the quality of the work that I can do.
I don't have a ladder and only can use a telescopic pole, which is troubling for the quality because I can't really check from down there and also really just can't reach everything (properly).
Store fronts are ok, but residential is seriously hard to do a good job with.

The only way I could imagine this to work is the following:
-Work a$$ off for long time in limited jobs and hire people
-get an adult teammate

But even then, I feel like it's just not worth it going this path.

And me seeing at-first-inexpierenced people who've been doing digital marketing for 1-3 months and already earn 2-5k makes me think "Wow, if they can do that, I sure can as well! Even if it's just half of that, 2.5k sounds awesome!"

I'm a bit conflicted myself on this, but perhaps it's the right decision.
About this: I think I'll actually discard the idea for now (to do an SMMA). Partly due to your guys' messages to me and also partly due to @Subsonic .
Subsonic is about the same age and in the same country as me and already has got some promising results. And the fact that @heavy_industry teased me a bit in the thread... I don't know if this is just the kind of motivation that will die tomorrow but I thought that I should at least try again. After all, I only knocked on a few doors!

What I did today:
-woke up early to get the piano task out of my way fast
-went to town hall and got some knowledge on legal stuff (not business related but essential)
-got myself a hip belt to look more like somebody who actually does shit (I feel like my appearance plays a big role)

What I am going to do after posting this:
-knock on doors or businesses

I'm scared to the bone but whatever.
Let's see what I can do.
About an hour until it gets dark...

Divorce yourself form the outcome. Your job is to get in there, ask questions, present a solution and quote a price. You can do that! You got this!

If they say no, move on to the next lead. Keep going.

If you want to learn digital marketing, don't do an agency: use it for your business. Run a Google ad targeting people searching for window washing in your local area. Target really small, spend a tiny budget (2-5 euro a day or something, I've run highly profitable ads for businesses as low as $2 USD a day)

You've already made money doing this. If you take the euros that you're earning from knocking on doors and spend it on advertising, you'll quickly get to a point where you won't have to knock on doors anymore. You'll get people calling you asking you to come clean their windows.

If it's profitable, you'll be able to turn up the budget and you'll have more work than you've ever imagined.

@Andy Black what do you think? Do you think Google ads is a good thing for this young man to do?

EDIT: if you actually do this, turn off search partners

If you want to learn digital marketing, don't do an agency: use it for your business. Run a Google ad targeting people searching for window washing in your local area. Yeah, try it.. If no-one's searching or you can't get visitors then you've no spend. You can learn with a super low budget too.

YOO THANK YOU SO MUCH!
You're right, I should experiment on my own business first haha and maybe it'll indeed give me more work than I could've imagined. Thank you for the video and walkthrough!
I'll try it after I registered my business.

I'll try it after I registered my business.

I assume you're a German citizen, so it shouldn't be too difficult for you. Judging by online posts, you are classified as Gewerbe. Get your Gewerbeschein immediately. Use your parents bank account if you can't legally get one because of your age.

How to get a Gewerbeschein in Berlin (found this in english)

Start the process but don't wait for the process to finish before you go back to work. Tell people who ask "I just got my Gewerbeschein we're waiting to hear back from the Finanzamt". I hear Germans really like when things are official & done by the rules. Maybe even collect VAT in advance (not legal/tax advice).

If you 100% need a registered business to run Google ads, then two months of waiting & knocking on doors won't kill you. Just start the process now! If you put off the process you'll never do it!

If you had registered when you first posted this you'd have a fully registered business and you wouldn't be concerned about any of this.

UPDATE:

I F*cking did it!
I have 3 potential customers, 2 of them very likely! And I also got another job from the lady from november, my first customer and earned 20 bucks again!

And the most interesting thing was that it was very enjoyable! It wasn't really scary at all!!! WHAT THE HELL. Well, tbf, I only walked into stores today and not residential (which I remember as frickn traumatising).
My first potential customer is a shop-chain ("Rotes Kreuz Shop" or smth). Their previous window washer doesn't show up anymore lol and I offered the same price. Now I gotta talk to the chief, and close a deal.

The 2nd potential customer is a fruit-vegetable shop-owner. She kind of treated me like a son, engaging in "body contact"(<--I forgot the proper word right now) and her window cleaner also let her down.
She said she'd call me on a sunny day.

The 3rd one is the unlikely customer. I felt like she wanted me rather away, also stating yada yada...
In short, incredibly unlikely.

Also, the new hip belt is cool af

@Subsonic Hear that?
I hope you like a friendly competition!

small update:
I've went to a pharmacy and I got rejected, also the called the potential client (Rotes Kreuz Shop or smth) and they shot me down with "We have a cleaning service and it's a contract yada yada"

Yesterday I didn't go because it was abysmal weather and I would have died carrying all the stuff lol.
I'll go out again on saturday (better weather as well).

I'm really curious about the google ads. Hopefully I'll be soon able to try it out.

Please don't lose sight of this part.

Keep going. You can do this.

What do you mean by that?

He means don't lose confidence just because you got rejected. Rejection is just part of the game, and there's no reason to take it personally. They don't know you or your goals, all they know is that they have a contract with a window cleaner and they don't want to breach it. Even if someone reacts with hostility, it has nothing to do with you.

Work into your sales pitch the reason why you are doing this. "I'm saving for a car" or "I'm saving money for college".

That will switch the prospect focus from "do I need my windows washed" to "should I reward this kid's moxie", and you should get more yesses.

Good luck. Let us know how many people say yes.
This is genius, lol. Give them a story that they can be a part of

What do you mean by that?
He means, for you to remember that the process of going and pitching and getting potential clients was fun. So focus on that rather than whether they say yes or not.

This is a way you rewire your brain to focus on process over results. It is better because you can control your effort but not your results.

Good to hear you are still going.

Remember what MJ said, "failure is the sweat of success." Keep going till you're dripping wet!

I've been scouting on google earth and my city doesn't have too many shops left (well, at least not if I just want to go about it mindlessy).

My options would be:
-explore local suburb more
-go to another suburb
-try residential in my city again
-go to the city (like, an actual big city) by train and ask businesses

I feel like the last option is the best, however it's kinda scary because I feel like entering small stores with all the equip is not good and leaving the stuff outside leaves the danger of it getting stolen, I'm also just a tad bit concerned about how to get water for the bucket.

This is frightening, but it's either now, later or never. All paths will be scary, some just later (such as the Slowlane for many people).

Just wanted to share my thoughts here.
