I was bullspitting last night (some would call it "brainstorming") and our group came up with a new way to advertise, come to find out a very successful insurance agent in our area is doing this. I am going to start it up soon myself.
I'm sure everyone knows about the "adopt a highway" program in the U.S.
Well the advertising plan is to adopt a very busy highway so you get your name on the sign. I know what you're thinking "I don't want to clean up crap!" but read on. You get the name on the sign so it is a constant billboard (free of course!) THEN you pay the local boy scouts or community group to clean it up once a month (usually a $50 or $100 donation) Which ends up being a tax deduction. So you don't do any cleaning and the boyscouts clean it for a tax deductable donation. BUT here is the kicker: because of the charitable donation, AND the fact you are cleaning up the highways there will be several FREE newspaper publications that will go out with your name in it.
A local insurance broker I talked to has a guy of his that does this. He gets free newspaper write ups WEEKLY. On top of that he has the fre billboard, AND he doesn't have to do any extra work, AND he gets the tax benefit!
