Selling (or giving away?) a Google Ads Script

I can't decide whether to give-away or sell a Google Ads Script I developed and use on all client accounts.

It downloads Google accounts data and drops it into a Google Sheet that then pivot-tables the data and shows it much clearer than in the Google Ads account.

An example pivot-table (conversion tracking isn't working great for this client but you can see all the columns along with other metrics for each campaign label per week):




On the one hand, giving it away could bring a lot of people into my world who are already running Google Ads accounts.

On the other hand, I have @MJ DeMarco 's experience with changing the forum from free to paid ringing in my ears:

Sooo... I'm thinking of putting a small price on it of $10/mth, which is nothing for people already running Google Ads campaigns.

One downside is I (feel?) I'd need to support it more than if it was free?


Anyway, I had a DM convo with a new LinkedIn connection and dropped that I was thinking of selling it for $10/mth.

Here's the convo which is helping me decide what to do.

I know there's one guy who sells his Facebook ads guide as a course (makerads.guide) - I think you could do something similar.

I'd stay away from free. When people pay, they pay attention.

The reason I was thinking of free was because I think it's (more likely?) to be shared by people.

Mike Rhodes has a Google Ads Script that he gives away for free, and he charges for a different version that can be used on multiple accounts (i.e. for agencies). Loads of Google Ads folks mention and link to his free Google Ads Script, which gets him known more.

My current thinking is that $10/mth is so low priced to anyone running or managing Google Ads accounts that it's effectively free. Maybe it will be shared equally though, and maybe "getting known" shouldn't be my goal.

OR... if I had revenue from selling the script I could then reinvest it into ads to get more people to find and buy it... which also gets me more known.

I'm erring towards putting a low price on it, possibly after getting a few people into it for free while I test the instructions on how to implement it.
