This thread was created to point out the irony of creating yourself a 1:1 time for money self-employment arrangement after reading books that clearly define the types of business that can free you are not 1:1.

I somewhat disagree as a potential starting point for newbs and I just was talking about this with my step-son, so it's not something I'm posting here for the sake of being adversarial or posting it, but it is something I told to my very own family...

I'll try to paraphrase what I said: The point of business is to maximize and explode the value your time, ultimately, to free it while maintaining that value. This is exactly what you are talking about. However, the reason why I'm OK with people starting web design firms or other 1:1 trades is because suddenly they go from making $20 at Corporation X to $200/hour for themselves, that's a 10X.

Back to my stepson, he was doing a business that was WORSE than a 1:1 trade. Not only was he NOT making a 10X return on his time, it was less than his normal job at $18/hour. His only escape from these horrible metrics was incredible scale which likely would have been YEARS away.

I asked him, why are you busting your a$$ so your best case scenario in the next 6 months is $10/hour?

If you can't 5-10X the value of your time in business as a starting point for your 1:1-- very early (unless in a product development stage) one should stay at their job and find a better business opportunity.

The exception is product development or the ramp up stage which can pay nothing for weeks. But at some point, you need your time to be valued at 10X, working or not.
