Sorry for the late update on this one, this week was helacious! Lots going on though in the RE world, so that is a good thing. Diet and working out is now going like clockwork, and my weight is down 17 lbs. BF still looks high on this machine, I am guessing I am closer to 17%. Another 8 lbs to go, getting dang close to my goal. I am sure I will damage my progress this weekend - 4th of July and all.

Ok got my latest results. But I'm posting them all.

Date - Weight - BF% - Body Volume
3/30/11 - 149.3 lbs - 20.3% - 64.366 L
5/10/11 - 144.2 lbs - 15.5% - 61.518 L
7/05/11 - 142.8 lbs - 17.0% - 61.096 L

Based on these results I will stay that the Bodpod is not a very accurate bodyfat measuring machine. The guy running said it had a 3% error!? WTF am I paying for then?

Anyway, I can definitely tell in the mirror that my bodyfat has dropped in my stomach region. I probably lost some muscle during this time also.

I don't know what to think of the actual BF numbers. All I know is that I'm noticably down in BF, but have really no idea how much.

The one thing that is certain is that my weight is down over 6 lbs. I have a biking trip next week which is all cardio. After I get back from that it's time to begin the bulking phase. I'm done with the cutting down on my weight.

BTW, Bill sent me this website. It's very motivating. 4 months!!

Another late post, but good news. My weight blew up from the day I left for 4th of July to when I got back, but as soon as I got back on the diet my weight snapped back into place. What is clear, if you have a regular routine and make a small change (regardless of how drastic) it really doesnt change your body much. Good or bad, which means if you normally have a bad diet and routine eating good and working out for one week wont really help you (and vice versa). Lowest weight of the week was 195.4 lbs (23.3% BF). Almost there. One more week!

If the competition is about who gains the more fat, I seem unbeatable!!!

Bio, that place from the link you sent is just 15 miles from my house... I will check it out. Pretty impressive.

Well I did not kill Bill. MJ has called me out twice now here and at the B&P. But I'm back on track started my own competition with myself. This mornings weigh in 182.2 at 23.6%. I should be under 180 next week. Bio's link is awesome motivation, thats a crazy transformation in 4 months.

Well, the final tally is in and we are complete. Kids - sound off with your results. Here is the final for me.

RealOG
Started - 215.2 (27.2%)
Finished - 198.2 (23.8%)
Total Weight Loss - 17 lbs
I lost about 5.5 lbs of muscle according to the scale. I did get my measurements from a more professional clinic though, they had me at about 16% BF. That seems about accurate with my physique, but since I didnt get my measurements from them before I started I am not sure what the accurate starting point was. Regardless, I am pretty satisfied with the results - mainly because halfway through I was able to add things like alcohol and dinner's out back into my diet without causing harm to my program. Consistency is key - making sure you continue your program regularly and only deviate once in a while. The danger is when the deviations become your program, thats when you pack the weight back on.

I will make another run for the last remaining 8 lbs, but for the next couple weeks I will stop tracking so closely. Starting in August I will be back to focusing on losing the last 8 pounds.

I see a lot of "TBD"s.

Does TBD stand for . . . "Too Bloody Depressing"? :smxB:

Nice work, Mike, Bio, and all.

I'll be weighing in this weekend. Felt like I had a good week, according to our little training computers each of us on our bike trip burned 1300+ calories a day, with today being a whopping 2100 calories. In theory we should have all lost weight but in reality we tried to stuff half of the calories back into us at dinner.

IMG_4694.jpg

I am anxious to hop on that scale.

I am down a good 7 lbs, but the real test is that in the mirror I can see that I'm definitely leaner. Good contest guys! I guess we need another vegas trip to start up the next one.

Okay- here's my results:

I started out at 159.6 with my body fat range at 16.4%-18.2%. The last time I checked body fat % was on May 19th, when I weighed 148.0 and had a body fat range at 12.4%-13.7%. The first week of June I was weighing 145 lbs, and looking pretty scrawny. So, since the 2nd week of June, I've been trying to bulk up. In the last 6 weeks I went from 145 to 153, mainly muscle/water weight, pretty clean eating minus cheat days. I'll have to borrow my employee's body fat measure again to get a % for where I'm at now. Don't want to post pics publicly, but the changes have been very noticeable. Anyone who I competed against who wants to see them I'll send.

Recap:

Started:

cutting phase:

weight: 159.6 lbs
body fat: 16.4%-18.2%

May 19th:
weight: 148.0 lbs
body fat: 12.4%-13.7%

June 8th:
145.0 lbs
body fat: ??

down 14.6 pounds before bulking phase

bulking phase(clean):

today: 153.0 lbs
body fat: TBD

How I did it:

During the cutting phase I was running 5 miles 2-3 times/week and playing in a basketball league 1-2 times/week. I was also doing kettlebell swings and ab exercises, with some lifting. I ate very few carbs(and only good ones) 6 days/week and ate whatever I wanted once/week. Most of my meals were eggs, chicken, fish, salads, etc... During the bulking phase I eat similar except added a lot of complex carbs(brown rice, potatoes, etc...), added protein shakes, and take in 175g of protein/day.

I say for the next competition we start a business from scratch, and first one to create X amount of income per month on it wins.

I think we should now do a weight gain challenge. Weight gain lbs with minimal body fat gain.

My final results:

Date - Weight - BF% - Body Volume
3/30/11 - 149.3 lbs - 20.3% - 64.366 L
5/10/11 - 144.2 lbs - 15.5% - 61.518 L
7/05/11 - 142.8 lbs - 17.0% - 61.096 L
7/22/11 - 144.4 lbs - ??

I'm down only 4.9 lbs but this was a good contest. I won't be doing my body fat test again until 3 months. I have one test left ($80 a test) and I'm saving it for my bulk up phase. I'm going to try to get back to 150lbs with little or no increase in body fat.

BTW, It's pretty disappointing how this contest and the make money from $50 in one month contest had many people joining at the beginning and in the end only a few who saw it through. This is the same in real life and people wonder why they don't succeed or change. It's very easy to say "I'm in". People do that all the time. But when it comes down to putting your money down or doing the actual work, many people flake out or come up with excuses.

This is pretty cool... Bill, Kenric, Mike, that was great, and I have to give it to you guys, you made me look bad. Bulking up contest? Sounds cool... and with the high body fat % I have right now it should be interesting. Count me in.

I also have to invest on a better scale... the one I have at home has some crazy variations that I can't explain... for example, one day I weigh myself and get 166.4 lbs and then try it again 10 mins later (I was suspicious with the numbers I was getting) and showed me 1 full lb higher... so, time to find a better, more reliable one I think.

OK, so should we get a new thread started, with start date Aug 1st, and that runs until Sep 30th?

Also, what if we put $50 each and the winner gets all? (who do I paypal my $50 to? or u guys want me to be the one collecting the money?) Maybe that will motivate people to actually stick to it, or at least will work as a "laziness tax" :D

Welcome to a real-life example of people loving the event, but failing with the process. "Im in" is an event. Easy. I wrote about the failure of people to follow through in this blog article. I think you were in Prague when I wrote it.

I am going to stick to the cutting. Still trying to hit that 190 mark, but I am more than happy to provide advice on gaining muscle. Bill and Kenric have their work cut out for them as they will need to hit the gym a lot harder than they were...

August 1st date sounds good to me as well as putting up the cash (i'm willing to put up more). But let's see how we can incorporate the conflicting goals of others (bulking vs. cutting) so we can all play together.
