Edit: Sorry I put that stupid title as a placeholder and then I forgot to replace it for something more relevant.

Disclaimer this is a full-on rant and I just want to complain

I see this on Facebook since I periodically gotta keep up with the animal videos my mom and dad like to put on my wall:

30760

It says "If the ones below get up, the game ends"

Well haha the ones below are just waiting for the ones on top to drop the next iPhone right? The last TV, the last console, etc etc, except they can't make ends meet because the greedy banks charge them interest on their maxed out credit cards!

Friend comments on Facebook "Nah the ones up there never did anything in their lives, they just make bank from people"

Really? Really MF? Do you know how Rockefeller started? Ford? Oprah? Whatsapp's founder? Starbucks founder? etc, etc, etc, etc? There's TONS of examples on Google. Y'all just have excuses for why your life isn't up to you and it's always someone else's greed or w.e. You're so exploited omg I feel so bad. "This is just feudalism, the one owning the land scratches his a$$ while we work it" Well if you are so noble and smart why don't you save and get a piece of land of your own? Oh I bet you have an excuse for that too, don't you. (Spoiler: he did)

There's this X ad about stuffed animals that become hoodies popping on my IG feed (which btw only has a few artists and that's it), just like PillowPets but with hoodies. I go in to ask whether they come up all wrinkled when you unfold them. Random comment "sigh, I don't see any brown kid, nice ad" What? Did you even look at the whole ad, for starters (because there were several ethnicities, for the sake of the argument), do you realize a small business might not have money to hire a bunch of models and might be using just family friends or w.e....but if you are going to point out representation how about you do it in a less passive aggresive way? Takes the seriousness out of your plea and makes you look like an idiot.

That's just today and yesterday.

WTF is wrong with people? Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to say I'm morally superior but it's like this constant battle staying connected to society and just wanting to get a brickphone and keep informed through the little TV headlines on my job's elevator because I'm so tired of reading nonsense!!

I'm so disconnected, it even feels lonely. Whatever happened to making a logical argument? Ah no let's just throw ad-hominem fallacies that'll work, I win. UGA UGA yo momma so fat real socialism hasn't been tried yet!! Nordic countries are socialist just because they have welfare and UBI!!

Hold on how about you rethink that statement? -AH NOOOO, YOU ARE SUCH A SNOWFLAKE FOR POINTING MY FLAWED LOGIC OUT! LOOK AT MY ONE AND ONLY EXPERIENCE AND EXPERTS AT BUZZFEED SAYING YOU ARE WRONG!

...

I swear I want to be more social why is it so hard to find common sense. I don't even want to be right most of the time, I just want to exchange ideas. That's why I don't delete or hide people with different ideologies. But they make it impossible! I don't want to look at my phone, then again I don't want to be isolated, wtf is one supposed to do.

WTF is wrong with people?

Entitlement, or the feeling that they deserve things without having to take any action. Which is ironic, because they accuse productive people of being useless, while actually being unproductive themselves; or at least, not productive enough to make up for all the free services they demand as "basic human rights"... you know, a smart phone, Internet, universal income, free medical care, unlimited salty sugary snacks, free cigarrettes, other people's property.

Entitlement combined with an inability or unwillingness to do the things necessary to give them the things they want results in frustration and personal attacks. "Maybe if we vote for the right person, they'll punish the successful people for us, and give us all their money. That'll show 'em!" and "Those damned rich people... I'm poor because they took away all the money *I* could have had!"

There are all kinds of social circles. It can take time to find the right ones. I know that you know some people now who you didn't know as well in January... that's a start, right? Beyond that, there are groups of people and nonprofits interested in Austrian economics, Objectivism, business, personal responsibility and self reliance, etc. You'll find a lot more to get along with in some of these groups than you will in a general sampling from social media. And when you do get to spend a little time conversing with "your people" it's a real relief. The strain of putting up with the people on social media seems less. It's like there's a whole other planet where the people make sense, and you can choose to go there from time to time, just by selecting the right venue, time, or topic of interest... and you don't even have to go into orbit to get there :)

(Most of) Reddit is the quintessential example of this. Worth avoiding it like the plague. A cluster**** of poisoned mindsets that work in tandem to shut out anything that's not group think. It's especially bad when it comes to large businesses / corporations.

"It would take xx,xxxx years at $100 per hour to make as much as Bezos has. No one should have that much!"

"Minimum wage should be increased because these people can't afford to live."

It goes around like this in complete circles as if grandstanding on an anonymous internet forum is the righteous path to getting things done.

So I'll say this...

Information is the equivalent of food.

Consume the right information and your entire being will be healthier. Limit bad sources altogether or treat them like a treat - say, something like watching the news or reading an online publication briefly for a couple of times a week.

Consuming too much information, even the good type, is no different than eating too much food, even if it's also good. The benefits become removed. Your brain will become fogged instead of energized.

Don't replace downtime with information consumption. It's a never ending rabbit hole and the only ladder out is to stop. Turn off the radio when you drive, take a break from your podcasts, turn off the news, etc. It's good to be connected but chances are most people are more than enough connected as is.

^^^ This (and the rest of your post).

I drive with the radio off. I turn TVs off when I walk into empty rooms. I buy a newspaper once a year probably, and I’m not subscribed to any podcasts. I’m currently only watching the news because of flood risks, and to keep up on local news related to the Corona Virus. I’ve ignored Brexit and elections.

I go through phases of consuming, but only because something is top of mind and I’m trying to immerse myself.

I want to hear my own thoughts and not get dragged into other people’s worlds.

I’m at peace letting a fool think he’s right. Have the last word my friend. You win a lifetime of thinking you’re right.

It’s a shame many will live their whole life with the wrong mindset. I’d have been happy to help them change their mindset, but I’m not going out of my way twice.

@BellaPippin ... just see these dumb posts and comments as great ways to find out who you can ignore.

There is a good chance that facebook is designed to make you feel as this post feels. Just divided, isolated, confronted, (and we know adicted).
It's a great tool for marketing and business... but with a knife or any tool, you can also harm yourself... so expand your thinking.

I want to echo what Rabby said. My FB experience got a lot better when I cut the "mindless" chatter, especially the "I'm convinced I'm correct so I'll get judgey on you" political crowd.

Now I have reasonable people to chat with on FB, many of whom I disagree with.

And like Rabby suggested, I sought out a few groups that discuss points of interest for me, I get a diverse group of interesting topics in my feed from that too. Diverse discussion but not divisive. If the group is divisive, I bounce, find another.

Add in this forum, a couple whatsapp groups, and some selective meetups for mostly meeting Bizy people, and my social circles have improved dramatically over a year ago. As has my overall outlook on humanity.

Hope that helps.

My hypothesis is that high-achievers rarely waste their time on Social Media. They are busy living their lives outside of Social Media and working on their goals. On the other side, most low-achievers often have nothing more interesting to do with their lives than engage in time-consuming comment battles. I recommend working on Social Medial control techniques so it works for you and not against you. The world is full of stupid people, as well as smart ones - they just hang in different places and do different things.

I don't agree with the hypothesis. I'm lucky to know many high achievers. Most under a certain age understand social media is a tool. That tool often feeds their livelihood.

I'll be at a dinner and have someone pull out a Facebook meme. Because high achievers like to laugh too.

Sometimes it is easier to catch them via Twitter than a phone call. Hit them up on WhatsApp. Etc.

Is this "wasting time"? Probably not.

I think the difference is for them, they know how to put social media in it's proper place in their life. It doesn't dominate their life.

But many don't ignore it.

Yep. That is democracy for you unfortunately. We democratize decision making to people that have no business even opining. "Hey economically illiterate loser living in your parent's basement... What do you think? Make your voice heard!"

All it takes is 51% to steal from 49% of people with 100% of the law. Let's not forget that the most nefarious, genocidal, murderous, and oppressive things in history were all legal.

Despite the fact that I put ZERO hope in government to solve our problems, I am an election judge for my county... Funny enough, my clerks talk about how during the primaries they will ask voters which primary they would like to vote in, as required by law... a disturbing number of them, that showed up at the polls to vote in a primary, will ask what a primary is... With ZERO shame...

Ultimately competition is going to have to reach governments for this to change. They need to stop treating citizens like cattle (even though most deserve it) and more like customers. The only way that is ever going to happen is more competition. Smaller countries that want to attract the best and brightest are going to have to sting the behemoth central control loving nations where it hurts.

I AM optimistic that competition will increase among countries in our lifetimes... But I am pretty bearish on the USA ever realizing they need to compete before we travel long down the road to serfdom.

@Kak & @BellaPippin, I believe it has been an issue since time immemorial.

Plato solved it allegorically with the idea of the "philosopher king" - a tyrannical ruler who puts the love of philosophy + his (or her) people above all. Most consider Marcus Aurelius one of the more pertinent examples.

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLJBzhcSWTk

The book in which this is mentioned is called "The Republic". Although I've read a copy, the only two real points of value I gleaned from it where the idea of "Plato's Allegory of the Cave" & that of the philosopher king.

In modern times, Singapore's LKY is most likely the closest to such an individual. Margaret Thatcher, possibly, too. My friend Ludvig Sunstrom wrote about him, after he died. I could be wrong, of course.

Human history is a bloodbath - there will never be any shortage of suffering. The people who complain about the rich exploiting other people don't actually give a shit about the people being exploited, they're just trying to denigrate them in an effort to justify their low effort lifestyle.

There is always something to complain about, or more generally, there is always something to be against. The people who complain about how everything is wrong with this or that, what are they actually putting their energy towards? What are they for? You'll notice that the people who complain the most aren't actually building anything, they aren't actually in favor of anything.

People who only whine don't count.

I too spend a lot of time frustrated with the world.

I am as pessimistic as they come about the direction the mindless masses are going to boldly lead us. This is probably the most demotivating thing I deal with.

The struggle is real, but push through and get your peace back. We still have a lot of life ahead and squandering more than a pity party’s worth of it it isn’t a realistic option.

Same here Kak. That's sort of ultimately what I'm ranting about. Humanity can be so much better than it is, yet we love to skip back and forth between 1984 and Brave New World over and over and over.

I know Andy... sometimes I still struggle letting go of that, or stressing myself over helping friends that keep complaining but aren't really ready to be helped. This friend of mine has 0 self esteem due to many things in his life, and way too often I find myself trying to help him see he's not a failure; he just tells himself he is all the time, just because things aren't working the way he wishes right now doesn't mean that's how it's always gonna be, but it's like talking to a wall. He keeps saying things like "You are right I guess I don't work hard enough like the millionaires or don't have the million dollar idea" all sarcastic yet deep down he really really believes it and I just want to scream into a pillow. It ends up being bad for me.

I feel like a black sheep for all the people at home. A black sheep that is doing well because "I took the easy road and moved to a first world country". I can only make small talk with all my high school friends, my mom, there's very few exceptions...because I'm not preaching anything but I can only go so long hearing nonsense before I wanna say "are you listening to yourself" which of course 99% of the time leads no where, so I've lost my will to connect. It's sad!

I keep telling myself in my head I wanna do what you do (and I do most things as is, no TV, news, newspapers etc.) but a part of me feels bad or guilty about being so disconnected. Like, will I be that person that just isn't reachable, let friendships go, live in a bubble? I've been considering getting a dumbphone for years now, uninstalling the apps wasn't enough apparently.

I'm just rambling at this point idk. I'm frustrated lol
A few lines that feel relevant. Maybe one will help:

“Put your own oxygen mask on first.”

“People listen to experts, they follow leaders.” (Doberman Dan)

“Help the people in motion.” (Amy Hoy)

“You can’t steer a parked car.” (James Schramko)

You’ve only got one life @BellaPippin. I like helping people too, but how much of your own life will you sacrifice to people who can’t or won’t help themselves?

Maybe listen to “Give and Take”. I found it helpful and liberating.

No need for a dumb phone. Why on earth are you still following people that give you the shits? That's on you, not facebook.

I think a lot of people here have a similar problem. None of my high school or local or long time friends match up with or want to hear about stuff we are interested in. They want to talk about the latest survivor episode lol. Whenever I get started on even the most basic stuff they make fun of me and call it a ted talk lol.

Ignore the shit and try find a new circle of friends/peers. Go to trials at different coworking spaces to find a social one, meetups etc. I'm still looking myself since moving back to Australia from Bali, which was a hot spot for that.

Love that you are still involved with your community even interacting with it can become really draining. I plan on coming back to it at some point, because otherwise I feel I'll just be like the ones complaining but not even trying. A portion of someone's time should always be used in helping one's village grow IMO.

Ultimately competition is going to have to reach governments for this to change. They need to stop treating citizens like cattle and more like customers. I hope you are right, I have however lost all hope in the whole South American continent. It's a live painting of the people in Atlas Shrugged, I wish I was exaggerating. Down there people do get treated like customers, except they are given free trials in lieu of a vote and then nothing. That is the only competition there is, because people will vote the same candidates that promised them the solution and left them worse as if they had no memory, back and forth. Reversing a century of inept and openly corrupt governments along with the subsequent damage in education seems science-fiction at this point to me.

Where do you see systems designed to break your spirit?

The video in your sig is quite interesting

Its a lot of things added up together.
The rent situation is insane, it feels like you're busy surviving, not living.
I had a 50k job for some time and was only getting 1350 a check, they took 500 F*ckin dollars in taxes a check.

The level of materialism bothers me to this day, i got an iphone 5S and i feel like a peasant lol cause its so outdated.

The whole social justice, anti masculinity movement has affected me a bit i wont lie. It makes me feel like I can't act like a man without being judged negatively for it.
I think this trend is reverting though.

I get this weird vibe that the society i live in doesn't want what's best for me, and if i do what i want i'll get judged negatively.
It's probably all in my head, but the question is why did it get in my head in the first place.

I think a lot of people are not living lives they want to live, its depressing to be surrounded by that.
So if i go for very lofty goals like a fastlane success + being popular with the ladies + being in great shape, athletic, it makes me feel a bit insecure and i feel like i get no social backup to pursue these goals.

It's like back in the day, neighborhoods were more tight knit, everyone knew their neighbors, people helped each other. A young man or woman could feel like their community had their back, even in a spiritual sense.

I don't feel that backup whatsoever living in NYC, its every man for himself.
That's why i go to TheFastlaneForum for like minded people, and other forums for my other goals.

lol i guess i should meet some like minded people in real life, but i haven't met many like that, i gotta get out more lol

That video is about Zhan Zhuang, it helped me so much i practice every day. I recommend it to anyone.

In reference to this, you have to remember: "Common sense is not so common".

People don't want to think for themselves anymore. So many people cannot think outside of their own little bubble, and can't grasp the concept that a small business might not have the funds to hire models, that they might be using their family/friends as you said, might not have the time to meet new people or that their main priority might not be to include different ethnicities within their ads (even though as you stated, they did!) Just another reason to complain as usual.

Agreed!

Someone just shared on WhatsApp this fake thing about Carrefour (supermarket) using expired cheese "re-pasteurizing it" and selling it again. Ofc is viral... does that make sense to you? Like do you really think a well known supermarket, huge chain is gonna be reselling expired cheese, with the reputational risk that means, the lawsuit liabilities? All I had to do was type three words in Google and got the snopes fact check confirming its BS. It's just a matter of time before my mom sends it to me too, probably. Smh!

Meh. Some people just want to argue for argument's sake. There's no reason to feel angry at someone else's opinion, no matter how uneducated and presumptuous it may be.

View attachment 30760

I feel yah,

The unfortunate truth is most people would rather feel right, than be happy. It's the eternal struggle of ego vs. soul. People's ego are always striving to feel superior to others, so much so that they lose sight of what is important. Some people do it by taking the moral high ground, some do it by putting others down. People who act like this have let the demon of ego overtake them.

Focus on those who support you and add value to your life and continue to add value to the lives of others.

As for fear of Isolation, I don't know about you, but I'd rather be by myself and free of toxicity, then bogged down in a toxic crowd.

Cheers!

I get this weird vibe that the society i live in doesn't want what's best for me, and if i do what i want i'll get judged negatively.
I don’t get any vibe from ”society”. I think everyone is getting on with their lives.

It's probably all in my head, but the question is why did it get in my head in the first place.
I had a coaching call years ago. I was wondering why I didn’t do something.

The coach said:

”F*ck why. It only holds you back.”

It's like back in the day, neighborhoods were more tight knit, everyone knew their neighbors, people helped each other. A young man or woman could feel like their community had their back, even in a spiritual sense.
I know quite a lot of people in my town. It’s quite close-knit. Again, everyone is focused on their own lives.

I don't feel that backup whatsoever living in NYC, its every man for himself.
If it’s every man for himself then why is what people think even on your radar?

It sounds like you’re in your own way trying to get over obstacles that aren’t even there?

One simple hack to get out of your own way is to go help someone.

Help someone and you miraculously forget about yourself and whatever’s going on in your head.

i love it too for its size, most reasonable phone size in my opinion.
Come to america u will be a peasant lol
im half jokin anyway about the phone thing.
Oh, we have people buying fancy phones here in Ireland too.

If I came to the US with my phone I wouldn’t be a peasant at all. The model of my phone is totally irrelevant to how I perceive myself.

What other people think of my phone is totally irrelevant to how I perceive myself.

What other people think of me is totally irrelevant to how I perceive myself.

What other people think is totally irrelevant to how I perceive myself.

Tip: Your mind doesn’t think you’re half joking.
