Hello, new here and I may be biased since I'm a graphic designer, but do we really not need a website to get sales?

I'm not good at outreach, so I'd feel more confident selling if I already have an internet presence (website, content, etc.) so I can attract people who are already interested in what I'm selling (email marketing).

I'm a bit lost on how to get sales without all the fancy stuff, tbh.

Welcome to the forum.

Here's the thing.

You could put up all that fancy online stuff and still not get any sales.

The point is not to forbid you from getting a website. The point is to focus your attention on the area that matters.

Imagine that you set this up for yourself as a challenge with a unique constraint. Your goal is to make a sale without the luxury of a website. Afterwards, when you have this down, it'll be easier to put up the kind of website that supports your ability to sell.

You're a graphic designer. Let's say your challenge is to sell a logo. Or since you said you are selling email marketing, pick that if you prefer. Get in front of a target client wherever you think they'd be most likely to be found. Make a proposal, set your price, and ask for the sale. Do this 10 or 50 or 100 times until you get a yes. (Look up resources on how to structure a sales pitch to help you be more likely to succeed.)

Is this intimidating? Yes. Is this going to tax your confidence? Yes. But is this exercise going to benefit the rest of your life as an entrepreneur? Yes.

It's going to break you out of the limited mindset that says, "I'm not good at outreach" and show you that "outreach is a learnable skill." It's going to free you from, "I don't know how to sell" and set you free to realize you now DO know how to sell.

Your confidence in sales will be built out of this exercise. There's really no substitute.

Don't get me wrong - feel free to put up a website by all means. If it helps you to feel prepared and professional, go for it if you want to. I'm sure it will be beautiful since you're already a graphic designer. But you'll quickly discover that your website is not a shortcut and it does not do the heavy lifting for you. YOU still have to do the selling. You can do that with or without a website.
