While I am not doing the push-up challenge along with you guys, I did go jogging today for the first time in recent memory! My wife went for a jog while I watched the babies, and then I went after! We are both going to try and get some exercise every single day.

Okay you guys, you inspired me. The ONLY reason that I wouldn't be participating in this is due to sheer laziness.

So I just did my 100 push-ups.

Day 1: 100 push-ups

Agreed. If I get twinges I’ll take a few days off and start lower again. This is very much like media buying to reach growth targets. Work our how to increase a bit at a time. Expect drops as well as increases.
Right. Tim Ferriss explains that often your body's ability to recover is lower than your eagerness to build muscle. In his concept, you do the minimal effective dose to spur muscle growth, then take it up from there.

Day 2: 100 push-ups. Did half as military push-ups to hit my lats a bit more.
I had to Google “military pushups”. What the heck?! They hurt!!

Day 5

2 x 20 normal pushups.
2 x 10 military pushups.
(60)

My kids love watching this.

I also took all three for a bike ride this afternoon. Except I don’t have a bike so jogged... way faster than I normally would.

I’m beat today. I’ll stick at 60 for a few days to get the hang of these military ones.

Exactly. The recovery is just as important.

Also... I remember my athletics coach telling us we have to “Get fit to train.” The body will wonder wtf is going on so I better listen to it and not get injured.

Hi guys, this challenge must be the easiest ever proposed on the forum, all you have to do is 100 pushups with good form per day for 30 days, no matter how you do them, all in one sitting or spread out during the day.

I just failed my first attempt after 5 days...
So I'm debating wheter to restart today or tomorrow.

How it went: Day 1, fine did them in one session took me nearly an hour(was resting plenty and doing other stuff meanwhile), Day 2 it was brutal I completed it still in one session but most sets where 5 reps(day 1 they were 10), day 3 I spread them out during the day and hardly finished them up before going to bed, day 4 pretty similar to day 3, day 5 I get to 49 and in the last 20 there's something off in my right arm... like I pinched a nerve or something it felt super awkward, not hurting but like it's about to mess up so I stopped.

Weight has a huge role since I feel like my joints would be much happier if I weighted 20 kg less..
Restarting the challenge while keeping my calorie intake lower, debating wheter to count calories or not.

I'll be taking one picture per day and maybe make a small video at the end.

You're all welcome to join and see if physical progress can be made from such a simple exercise.
Ok. I'm down.

For awhile I was doing 3 sets of 25 for 75 total every day, then after a couple of weeks moved to 3 sets of 33 for 100. Recently I was doing 2 sets of 50.

I might be rusty for the first few days, but I'm in, this will be a good morning routine for me.

YES X1000!!!!! Listen to your body!!!!!!

I did p90x a long time ago (10+ years ago, gross) and I remember hurting myself a few times. Did a few weeks of it like 6 months ago and hurt myself again! After this I started looking in to proper ways to work out. Turns out a huge portion of the way they literally tell you is "the right way" in p90x is 100% the wrong way!!!

If I had only listened to my body I wouldn't be as messed up today as I now am. Ugh.

Had a twinge in my good shoulder as soon as I tried a military pushup today. Will give it a rest for three days.

Wide angle, incline, decline, normal, military, diamond, there is a lot of variety in pushups.

I actually did this challenge last year, and recently took it up again. When I first started, the most I could do was 12. So I did ten sets of ten each day. For those that feel like it is "a lot", or like they can't do it, you'll be surprised how quickly your body adjusts. I was doing sets of 30 within a couple of weeks. I'm no expert, but I believe a big part of it was that I varied the types of pushups I was doing.

And for those who slouch from sitting a lot, this is a great challenge. Throw in a few planks a day and you'll change your posture pretty quickly.

I think that’s what screwed me up last night. Trying military pushups when I was tired and had never done them before. I’ll mix them up when I start again.

back when i was a youngster at age 55 i decided to add one pushup each day till i got to 100. so i started at 1 and added one each day. it got to be pretty grueling but i toughed it out and got all 100. i made a video of it too: 100 pushups in 100 days
That's awesome. Great way to adjust the challenge. The most I got to in one shot was 55, and that was a record for me. I like the idea of scaling it up to 100.

Something important I always think about with these kind of challenges, and you might find something useful in the idea:

"A habit must first be established before it can be improved."

Failing to do 100 pushups each days when entering the challenge can have detrimental effects to your internal subconscious motivation.

I had the same idea of doing 100 pushups a few years ago. I started doing sets of 20 from when I got up, mostly I did 60 a day, each day like this felt like a failure because I didn't reach the goal, even if I did a substantial effort, which I didn't do before. Recently I took the challenge back up but decided to hardwire the habit first, by doing at least 1 pushup a day. So the risk of feeling like a loser is minimal. Of course I never do 1 pushup but once you're down on the floor you easily do 20 or more in one set. Each day is a win. The idea is getting to cement the habit like brushing my teeth and steadily increasing the amount of pushups to reach 100 a day. I'm not there yet, but I got the habit going already and as a bonus don't risk tearing a muscle by getting ahead of myself.

This habit rule can be applied to everything. Wanna run? Go for a one minute run each day. Wanna learn a language? Learn one word a day etc..

Yes. I made it my challenge to get to 100 a day.

Ahhh a fellow Victor Pride follower....

He actually shut all his businesses down when he became a Christian

Reminds me of 30 Days of Discipline by Victor Pride of Bold and Determined that I read many years ago. I actually looked it up in response to this post and found that he has permanently shut down Bold and Determined and made 30 Days of Discipline unavailable.

The relevant portion of 30 DoD to this thread was 100 pushups, 100 situps, and 100 squats per day. To anyone taking on this challenge, I highly recommend the accompanying exercises. Whether you do 10 sets of 10 pushups or 4 sets of 25, just super set them with the same number of squats and situps - won't take much longer and you might feel a little bit more burn but it will be worth it in the end. You want to take care of your entire body.

I've been doing this challenge the past couple of days by doing sets after every 25 minutes of working on the business using a pomodoro timer. Decided to set myself the task of doing all 100 in one session today which I've just done and i'm very happy with myself for doing it so had to share. Not sure if i'll continue doing all in one session or after every 25 mins. I'd like to increase the amount I can do before failure.

Wow, doing proper push ups is difficult, I did significantly less than 100. I watched a refresher video of what not to do here:

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lnR_kb5Wjf8
Wow. He packed a lot of info into 10 minutes (that I wasn't expecting to spend watching a video on a Monday morning). Right... I'm happy to do less but do them properly, and then build up the reps and sets. Thanks for that find @Redwolf. And what the heck were those archer-pushups at the end? I've got to try those sometime.

I currently do 500 push ups on average per day, 200 dips and 300-400 shrugs with weight, a.k.a the Mike Tyson workout.

A year and a half ago my guts were taken out of my abdomen, placed back inside and I could barely get out of bed for a while. I started out with 4-5 push ups and I could barely do 1/4th of a pull up.

I didn't get stuck in considering the numbers. I just did what felt difficult which at the time was 5 push ups x 5 sets and 5 sets of 1/4th of a pull up. It felt like a big workout, and it was, even though now that's 0.1% in volume compared to my current workout. Think of it like an exponential growth.

It didn't take me long before I could do 20-30 push ups in one set and 10 pull ups. A month or two at most. I can now do 50 push ups in one go, 20 pull ups, 30 dips, etc.

So 100 push ups can be hard for you and promote growth, they could be a bit easy and not really do much, and they could even be impossible for you currently.. in which case I recommend just doing 5-7 sets per day of your maximum push ups, regardless of the number. Just make sure you reach fatigue (while not injuring yourself).

Ok, I did day 7

Missed 8 and 9. Days just go by and before I knew it it was bed time and I didn't want to do them at that time.

Did day 10.

The key is to do them early and get it out of the way.

10 Minute of pushups. I did this this morning, plus some more regular workout stuff on top of it. I was surprised by how bad this killed me! Using a timer brings it to an entirely different level

Good effort everyone, the timing of this tread couldn't have been better for me as I am looking to jumpstart my weight loss, active lifestyle journey.

I am in starting today June 1st, 2020.

First attempt: 20 push-ups and 15 situps! will add more throughout the day! I just want to commit myself before I think myself out of it!

I did the proper form pushups as per that video. 5 x 10. Plenty of rest between (like 5-10 mins pottering around the house etc).

Next challenge is to make 100 push ups in one go?
Who's up for it?
I’d must admit, I’d rather do reps and vary the type of pushups so I’m not training the body in only one way of doing them.
