As Greg B reported @Runum is currently in the hospital fighting some variant of Covid.

Please send him some thoughts, prayers, or well wishes as he continues to fight in a medical facility, which by his reports, doesn't seem too interested in his recovery.

Get well Greg, we're all rooting for you!

PS: Greg, this thread was created for you if you need to relay any of your thoughts, or messages. If you want the thread closed (or deleted) please let me know. I've moved all the other messages from the main CV thread into here.

Again, you are not alone!

All anyone can do is educate yourself on the risks and play your hand. I am 62 with no comorbities. I am very active and take care of myself. I contracted covid Jan 4 and have serious covid pneumonia. I am currently in the fight for my life. It can and does happen but I wouldn't want everyone locked down for me.20220119_062149.jpg

Were you vaxinated? I ask because I expect to not do well if I get it, so I got vaxinated and boosted. Yet I still have to participate in society, so I expect to eventually get it. I understand if you don't want to say.
This is so frickin gauche it’s sickening.

I am so sorry to hear this. I am firmly against mandates but it is up to everyone to take whatever precautions they see fit.

Praying that you recover quickly and fully! I'm sure the whole forum feels the same way.

At this point it has been massive drugs and oxygen. No therapy. This path will lead to more complications and possibly death. I am transferring to therapy facility today I hope.10 days of oxygen does bad things to respiratory tract and lungs.

Please keep us updated @Runum whenever you feel strong enough to post about how your recovery is going.

Wishing you a speedy recovery.

If I may ask, what do you mean by "no therapy?"

The hospital and insurance only wants to do stuff like tests and drugs. There is no allocation of resources to work on getting stronger and recovering.

No monoclonal antibody therapy yet? That's crazy. I hope you get the treatments you need asap.

They say there is a shortage
Tell them you will pay. I can't imagine the producers refusing more money. This is what really upsets me the most.

Monoclonal antibodies have been given to all these elite people and they all recovered...

I hope that you are able to recover. Don't want to stress you out more.

@Runum very sorry to hear about your condition.

Unfortunately in my opinion the medical profession has largely failed patients due to factors that are pretty obvious to people in the field. Patients really have to advocate for themselves, which really is a tragedy.

Since you are in in the midst of dealing with the blows of Covid, maybe I can can give some useful information.

Covid is really divided into 3 phases, each phase has its own characteristics and risks. These phases are viral replication, cytokine storm, and thromboembolic. Not every person experiences all three, but usually one tends to lead to the other, so disrupting any one phase typically minimizes or eliminates later phases of the disease.

The viral replication phase is believed to typically last from 5-20 days. This typically presents as sore throat, congestion, headache, muscle aches, weakness, tiredness, and generally not feeling well. During this phase the virus replicates and then the immune system learns how to respond and neutralize the virus. During this phase the sicker someone gets the more likely they appear to be to progress to the next phase.

During this phase is when early treatment is commonly prescribed such as ivermectin or hydroxycloroquine or the new EUA drug molnupiravir. This phase lots of people are also taking vitamin d, c, and zinc. This is also the phase when the monoclonal antibodies are probably useful, current recommendations I have seen are for monoclonal antibodies within 7 days of symptom onset.

The next phase is cytokine storm. During this phase usually the viral proliferation is wrapping up, and the immune system is getting the upper hand in eliminating virus. However there is a ton of viral debris left over, and the immune system can over react. If the immune system that now knows how to attack the virus, dead debris or alive, reacts strongly this can trigger a pathological condition called a cytokine storm.

This cytokine storm phase usually starts around 5-10 days after initial infection and cal last several weeks. This phase can cause damage to different organs, commonly including the lungs causing an inflammatory condition. This results in people having difficulty breathing.

Since this is an inflammatory reaction current research indicates that steroids are probably the most appropriate therapy during this phase. The goal is to control the inflammatory system from over reacting.

Staying around 10-20 days the next phase can kick in. This is the thromboembolic phase. During this phase blood clots can occur which can impact any organ in the body.

Since this is a problem with blood clotting, the current research has been focused on combatting this by giving blood thinners. The goal is to prevent the blood clots before they ever begin.

This is one of the protocols I have been using dealing with family members.

Thank you. I am feeling better. My lungs are stressed but I am recovering. I am very concerned about relapses and the next level. I will be making a request for monoclonals in the morning.

I am still here. Nights are brutal. I cannot sit up without oxygen. I am fighting a sinus infection. I am on oxygen 24/7. I am hooked up to monitors also. I am monitored all night with little human interaction. The brain never stops thinking and has nothing to do. I listen to audio books for distraction. Nights are so lonely, scary, and quiet. Just you trying to see the sunrise and the brain that is not finding the solutions. I am concerned that this is not a linear fight. I m concerned about setbacks.

Thank you for keeping us updated.

Do these cycles of feeling better/worse last a few hours each? 8 hours ago you wrote that you felt better and now it seems you feel worse. Or is it the nights that are always challenging?

Have you requested monoclonal therapy already? Did they even tell you which variant you contracted? I read they don't recommend monoclonal therapy for Omicron.

Right now it is more mental than physical. My mind wants to progress rapidly and to success. The disease has something to say about my success.

I understand. It's always frustrating when your mind is ready to go while you need to wait for the body to recover. I guess it's a blessing you can use your phone and be able to connect with people this way as I can imagine the isolation is very tough.

Stay in there! From what I gather this is truly a massive mental battle. It is like the "treatment" wants to break you down psychologically as well. No visitors, no answers, no anything.

My mother went through this as well and she said it was the hardest thing she ever faced as no one could visit her, and she had no idea what was going on as no one would even talk to her. She was also in a foreign country which didnt help matters. My COVID recovered father was not able to visit or be with her, and they wouldn't even let him drop things off to her, including her phone. It was about 3 days into it before anyone had any contact with her or before they finally accepted some things for her.

Stay strong! Know that we are all rooting for you! I am glad you have your phone with you to at least have some communication and entertainment.

Fda just froze monoclonal treatments. Doc is refusing.

I read they only did this because it doesn't work well on Omicron?

Any other treatment options?

The instituion you've visited to heal you has just refused to provide you treatment. If they're not healing you, then what are they doing for you? Would you mind sharing their approach to treatment?

I'm really sorry for what you're going thru. You might find courage knowing you're not the only one fighting - but know that you will beat this thing and don't let fear creep in.

Fda just froze monoclonal treatments. Doc is refusing.

This is only about 2 of the therapies, regeron's and Eli Lilly's.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/seekin...y-therapies-from-regeneron-and-eli-lilly-wapo

GlaxoSmithKline is still showing promise.

https://seekingalpha.com/news/37776...o-activity-against-full-omicron-spike-protein

Giving benefit of the doubt, I assume they've determined you have the omicron strain, so that's why he's basically saying they froze it.

But if you have another strain, then they can still be used.

Here's the FDA press release page.

https://www.fda.gov/news-events/pre...oclonal-antibodies-treat-C0VlD-19-due-omicron

I'm obviously not a doctor. I have no idea if your doctor's can get their hands on any GSK therapy or if that is even appropriate treatment for you.

I'm just sharing this to hopefully help you have better conversations with those medical types, because I assume they are too busy to actually read the announcement that only just happened.

Sometimes people just hear headlines and draw the wrong conclusions.

Hope this helps.

Edit: the forum truncated my links. I don't know if this is intentional or not, but if you need them I can send them to you.
