Hello all,

My name is Timea, I'm 19 living in outer London.

I stumbled upon this forum whilst reading TMF by MJ DeMarco. What an amazing book, and an even more amazing group of like-minded people on here. Props to MJ! It is surprising how beneficial something as simple as a forum can be, especially to your mindset. I'm all about self-development and always looking to learn new skills.
I'm currently an accountancy apprentice , but I am motivated to start working on a side hustle, or a business to increase my income streams (I have a few ideas already!). Progress thread incoming?

Any early advice?

Looking forward to building relationships with everyone on here, and surrounding myself with people who similarly want out of the rat race.
I will be reading Unscripted next, any book recommendations for after would be greatly appreciated as well.

Hey Timea, welcome to the forum!

At 19, wanting out of the rat race is admirable.
I doubt you've entered the rat race properly though, before deciding to exit.

A job is a good way to progress quickly, develop your skills and find mentors.
If you have a side hustle in mind, then look for a job in the same branch.
That is the quickest way to gain experience in whatever it is that you plan on doing.
Just dont get comfortable and keep in mind that the job is a means to an end. A quick way to develop your business.

Thank you for the welcome.
I can see that the majority of people in the 'rat race' living pay-check to pay-check are depressed, spend any disposable income they have left over (if any) on pointless things they don't need and have heaps of debt racked up. Everyone wants to have financial freedom, but not everyone is willing to put the work in to achieve it. Hopefully I will end up where I want to be. Perspective is everything, and watching important people around me struggle financially pushed me to not end up in the same situation as them, and I understand that every choice I make now will determine my future. Might as well start early, right?
In regards to your advice, thank you. I will be sure to take it on board.

Welcome.

I'd list every business idea you have and see which one fulfills the CENTS principles and also resonates with you (if possible). You will probably need a job to fuel the business, though, so be prepared for that.

Good luck!

Hello Timea,

Has anything worked for you? I saw you were looking to add a little extra income to being a entrepreneur. If you’d like I can send you the training, let me know.
... and what training would that be? @MJ DeMarco

Welcome to the forum Timea. When you've finished TMF make sure to find the thread, "Read Millionaire Fastlane " and drop a comment. Do the same for UNSCRIPTED when you've finished that. You'll get the tab under your name that tells all of us you've read the books. Most importantly, it helps us to know that you have an understanding of the terms and language we use.

You'll also want to dive into the GOLD and NOTABLE threads. There's so much knowledge being share, I don't know where to start.

Your job, any job, can be more than a way to pay the bills. It can be exposure the wants and needs that help you find those side gigs and a future on ramp to the Fastlane.

Looking forward to all the success you'll enjoy in life.

Great idea, thank you! And yeah off course, apprenticeship wage isn't the greatest in the UK. Will probably plan, research and study close competition over the next year or so until my apprenticeship is finished and actually start to implement my ideas from there once I start full time employment with my job .

As soon as I've finished TFM I will do that. Cannot wait to start Unscripted . I will be sure to check out the GOLD and NOTABLE threads over the next couple of days too. Thanks!

Your first few ventures will fail miserably most likely. Don’t let it discourage you.. with business sometimes there’s a theme of throwing tons of stuff at the wall and seeing what sticks.

You’ll make it. I can tell by the way you talk.

I think I've read fastlane somewhere your age too, but I was also doing all kind of different stuff before. Failed miserably so many times.

Here are my advices :
- Start doing and don't read to much blog post / articles. ( at the start I was wasting too much time reading all gurus, not executing)
- Information overload. Once you will search for how to make money online, searching for advices etc. BE PREPARED! now you'll be bombared with ads like "Hei my name is XY " (and behind him rented house / car in video) - Don't believe a single word.
- Social media is a toxic. I removed it, not missing a single thing.
- Don't forget about parties, friends, sport etc. This is trend nowadays to work 24/7 until you get burnout. And saying things like "hustle" to attract millenials.

Good luck!

This is a very important part of our journey. We learn more from our mistakes than our successes. The market will tell you when you've got it right - you need to be persistent.

Don't compare yourself to others, especially on social media / YouTube

Aim to provide more value than your customers pay you for

Surround yourself with like minded people that will PUSH you (good thing you found this forum). Move in with roommates and start a hustle house

Cut out negativity and naysayers from your life immediately

Find something you enjoy, and ask yourself, "how can I monetize this?"

Just have to stay persistant, and not be thrown off by any failures. It's all a part of the journey. Thank you Chris!

That's great, and yeah I have to be prepared for failure within business, especially the mentally aspect of it. Can't let it get you down and just have to keep trying.

With regards to social media, that is something that is massive in my generation. I do find it difficult to completely cut it out of my life. I have set a time limit on my phone for social media apps which cuts off after I have spent X hours on it in total. I have Instagram and twitter, but I try to not waste much time scrolling down my feed liking photos of other people. I follow mainly inspirational and motivational pages and love saving content I can refer/read back to.

I also love a night or day out, although I'm massively cutting back on the amount I go out, both to save money and also so I have more time to think, research and prepare for my future.

Thank you for your amazing advice.

Persistance is a key term I keep seeing. Got it, thanks for your advice.

Good advice. I don't watch much of YouTube, but on social media I can often compare myself to others. Then I remember they are in their own lane and they once started from somewhere, and that thought goes as quickly as it came.
This forum is great as everyone pushes everyone up.
Thank you.

Let's be real if you are 19 you haven't even entered the race. Good luck you will probably fail a couple of times before finding success. I have never met a 19 year old who had the communicative skills to pull off major success. I'm sure there are exceptions and at least you are aware of the trappings of the race in itself.

Said like a true gatekeeping neckbeard. How is telling someone they're unqualified for success due to age advice?

My advice is to never take advice from anybody who wasn't where you are and isn't where you want to be. Especially don't take advice from strangers.

Better to try get out of the rat race before I've entered it though right?

Besides, it likely isn't going to be an overnight success, it will take years in the making with a lot of downfalls to get where I want to be. Thanks for the response.
