It's almost 3am and I can't sleep, just wanted to share something that's troubling me.

So basically after joining this forum I've had a huge mindset shift already and although I'm still hopeful I'm right and my current project works out, I'm seeing how valuable selling a skill can be.

I'm really good at growing audiences, especially on Facebook. I've grown pages to 1.8M likes, 700k likes, 350k likes, 300k likes, several more with 50k+ likes and generated 6 figure earnings through these pages. I've always paid attention to the way social media works and being a young person who has worked on FB a lot, I know it inside out.

I have never paid for an ad and only ever used organic/viral marketing. People keep suggesting I start a SMMA but I have never used ads or marketed anything locally. All my audiences have always been nationwide or international, so it's not like I could sell my services to local businesses (or I could, but not provide results and make a fool of myself).

What sort of businesses do you think would be interested in this type of FB marketing? I was wondering if I might have success messaging Instagram brands who have no/little presence on Facebook, and perhaps don't want to pay for ads there, but would pay for organic views + engagements. The problem then is if that's even something in demand or that people would want.

I also feel like, I'm only 22 and I've literally only ever had "businesses" that are ran by me, and only me. I've always just done everything myself. So when I'm talking to someone about their business I fail to understand so much stuff. I feel like an idiot when I talk to other entrepreneurs around my age. Terminology throws me off and I end up having defined/researched so many words that the initial meaning of someone's message confuses me and becomes hard to understand. I feel like I'm not smart enough to do this and I'm anxious to even have conversations with people over the phone as I need to think about my replies for so long.

I'm just eager to make X amount by April so I can invest into my main desirable project and finish 2020 by making enough cash to finish my renovation and sell this liability of a house (I hate my home so much)! I'm doubting my main idea (selling merch to existing 350k audience) from responses here and freaking out as the only possible thing I have of value is social media knowledge/experience but even then it's so niche that it's not even desirable to most businesses looking to have someone do their FB marketing. I'm going to finish launching the merch store as I'm so close and aim to talk to 100+ people a day to bring in sales but I also want to learn more about business so I can take on social media work as needed, or always have it to rely on as a backup. Now I just feel so naïve and my self-esteem is so low as I've always just done things myself by putting things into practice and when I talk to people about their business and social media I feel ridiculously stupid despite my achievements.

How can I feel better about myself? How can I learn more about general business, so I don't get caught in an awkward moment when talking to someone about their social media needs? How do I convince someone to see the value of my skills when I'm not even good at ads?

Okay one thing at a time.

How to feel better about yourself?

Well that's going to take some time, a lot of people have written better on the subject than I can in this space, but getting some wins will certainly help.

Also keep in mind, you may feel stupid about their business, but they feel pretty stupid about Facebook.

How to avoid the awkward moment in front of a business?

Be upfront.

When I was first starting my agency, I made it a point to tell them my background and why I was getting into starting an agency. So they knew I was just getting started. And they often hired me anyways.

If you do the same, your background of building pages will give you the credibility you need. But admit to them upfront what you don't know. Tell them you're young and you've never run a business other than your Facebook businesses.

That way when stuff comes up in a meeting, you have full license to ask "I'm sorry, I really want to understand, what does that mean?" I still use this question a lot. Sometimes even when I think I know the answer.

It sounds like you have some friends who are business owners as well, so keep hanging out with them until you learn some lingo.

How to demonstrate your value.

Well, start building pages, and ask yourself who wants that traffic. Go to those businesses and offer them website visitors.

All businesses want more customers. So who can you send customers to?

If you don't have them built, what kind of business would pay you to do the viral type marketing you already know how to do? Build them a following of 350k...

To close a sale you have to look someone in the eye and promise to deliver results. Since you aren't confident, price yourself cheaply at first, to get some wins under your belt and build your confidence. In no time you'll be charging $3k a month.

Maybe offer to charge based on how big the audience is. Under 1k charge X. Under 10k charge 2X. Under 25k charge 3X...

Heck you can even offer to send traffic to them for a week for free, and if they get calls, then start charging a monthly fee or per call fee, etc.

One more thing.

Practice. You said you have to think about your answers. I know that feeling. You need to practice before you get in there real game.

So call up one of your entrepreneur buddies and ask if you can try to sell them your service. Get them to ask all kinds of questions. This way you can be more prepared for the kinds of questions a business will ask, and have time to come up with an answer.

Ok another thing

In your last thread you I suggested finding someone to sell for you. I just wanted to reiterate that idea.

Hope that helps.

@elusive97, congrats on your social media success, sounds like you know what you're doing; stop beating yourself up and relax. You're trying to swallow experience and success whole, it takes time and it happens in gradual steps, not overnight.

You're correct ...you don't have a lot of life experience and it will be difficult at first speaking to business owners about marketing and their businesses, however, any skill worthwhile is hard to learn at first. I'm guessing you weren't amazing at social media right away? Maybe it came easier, sure, but great? I doubt it.

You were asking what businesses would benefit from FB advertising? In my opinion, anything that is B2C (business-to-consumer), meaning anyone that is on "Main St." is a potential customer and of course online business selling B2C as well.

More business owners will be willing to speak to you than you think, as they're always looking for marketing ideas and the majority have no idea how to successfully run a campaign. My advice is to start by poping into the local businesses you already are a customer, such as your dentist, chiropractor, mechanic and plastic surgeon (kidding). Tell them briefly about what you do, ask them what they're currently doing for their marketing (don't knock what they're doing), give them a short explanation of how you could help them and the previous success you've had. Your goal is to get an appointment, that's it.

Come back at a later time with your laptop and demonstrate what you can do for them. Business owners know they need to be doing this, show them. They know younger generations are good with online tech and marketing; they will listen. Just remember in simple terms...talk ROI and visual analytics with the prospect (they aren't there with traditional advertising). Another thought is to offer online reputation management (Google Reviews (GMB), FB Reviews, Yelp Reviews, etc.), companies can live and die by a good or bad review.

You have to believe you've already got it!! ...Go get it!!

You said you've grown pages organically. Does this mean you made the actual content? Did you get people to engage other ways than just likes? Did you get them to comment/give their email?

You're not selling anything with the current mindset you're using. I know from experience.

You're experiencing a lot of anxiety and low self-esteem, I'm not a psychologist so I don't really know how to fix that, but going into business with this kind of mentality will not do you any favours in attracting any kind of client.

Maybe take a break from this, reflect on your life, where you're at and where you want to be. Leave your emotions at the door and do a self-assessment of your strengths and weaknesses.

What about other areas of your life? Your relationship with your family, friends, your physical health? Do you have a good career/job to hold you up when you're not doing well in business? If these areas are not balanced, they typically contribute to anxiety.

You have a skill that a number of businesses would definitely love to use.
I think you just lack confidence, that's all. And the only way to build that confidence is to reach out more to businesses. It will initially feel like lifting bricks, but will eventually become just like muscle memory if you master it.

I'm also wondering why you think it's a better use of your time to build for others than to build for yourself. Would it not be more profitable to use your skills to build your own pages and monetize them with affiliate sales and other means, than to build pages for businesses for a fee?
Just wondering.

How long does it take you to build a page with an audience that consistently brings in $2k/month and how many can you build simultaneously?

Maybe you can build them and sell them as a turnkey product?

Your whole reply was gold, and I definitely took on board the whole idea of having someone sell for me. Especially as I feel like I could offer more to a non-local business, someone else selling for me sounds much better.

You said you've grown pages organically. Does this mean you made the actual content? Did you get people to engage other ways than just likes? Did you get them to comment/give their email?
70% original content, 30% submissions/shareable stuff from online. On my current page I get tens of thousands of comments daily, and our group has 10k+ members, so there's definitely interest beyond enjoying the content.

I'm also wondering why you think it's a better use of your time to build for others than to build for yourself. Would it not be more profitable to use your skills to build your own pages and monetize them with affiliate sales and other means, than to build pages for businesses for a fee?
Just wondering.
I totally understand it's more profitable for me to monetise my own page. I mentioned in another post my last business grew to 6 figures within one year. This time, I think I can get closer to 200k, learning from the mistakes of last time.

The only reason I'm even considering building pages for businesses is because of the words of advice here. I can build an audience for free (I excel at organic marketing) but the actual monetisation costs around $4-5k to get started. The initial cost is paid off within 6-8 weeks max (usually 4) but right now I don't have any cash so I'm just figuring out ways to get that (without a support group and zero credit).

I have no doubt once I have this money I can turn the business into, even at a flop, a £50k/yr business (which is over 8* more than I made this year so far!) and get back to living a normal life where I'm not in this crazy state where I *HAVE* to keep going with my ineffective side hustle to pay the bills, and not knowing what to do to actually raise enough money that isn't just going on living expenses.

How long does it take you to build a page with an audience that consistently brings in $2k/month and how many can you build simultaneously?

Maybe you can build them and sell them as a turnkey product?
With cash for stuff I don't excel at (which is necessary for the monetisation), I could get a page there in 3-6 months. Ideally when I have money to invest, I'll grow audiences with the goal of 250k in mind whilst having a couple of people working on the other aspects with the goal of reaching $5k/mo profit. Then I can either expand on them and keep them growing or sell them. I could do several of these a year.

My page should reach 1M likes by the end of next year, and be making $15-25k/mo if I get my money right before April/May and can continue the regular process (that's only being stunted by lack of funds). Then I have a lot of cash to spend on that sort of thing and maybe in 2021 I'll be a millionaire :p It'd be amazing to be the one giving advice and helping others here!

Just chat to people?

Here, maybe this call might help you:

Also check out the Inbound/Sales thread in my signature. I think you’re viewing sales as something big and scary, when it’s not.

I’d be interested in chatting with you to see how what you do could be offered to some of my clients, and maybe for some of my own projects.

On that note: “Who already has your clients?” (Jay Abraham)

It's so weird. That was the first thing I thought of when I saw this thread, but wasn't bold enough to mention it.

Having fb and Google locked up and cranking out cash is basically global domination.

If you can grow a fashion, beauty, travel, decor page to over 1,000,000 followers I am definitely interested in a further conversation on using your services.

Can you share an example of one of your more successful profiles (either publicly or privately)?

If you aren't doing ads and you create the content, what does the start up $ get used for?
I'm not a good copywriter, I averaged English through school however my articles 1) take forever to write (I can type 'naturally' pretty quick but a 1000 word article takes me a few hours) and 2) don't get good authority because of my writing style. I studied the Copywriter's handbook for a while but it didn't improve key statistics. Also I have someone on research for six hours a day. Basically, if I did everything I do (social media/video), plus writing 4 articles a day, plus the research, I'd be working 20 hours a day. I tried it for a bit but the articles sucked, the videos were poor quality, and even general social media engagement went down. I also got like 2-3 hours sleep a day and ended up with suicidal ideation as I was still depressed over having no money.

Also check out the Inbound/Sales thread in my signature. I think you’re viewing sales as something big and scary, when it’s not.
I definitely am. I don't understand what people are talking about a lot of the time when they talk about their business, processes, etc. I don't understand most fields, as my own businesses have always been media/publishing/entertainment. As I said in my main post, as I've always done business alone when I had cash, I just kinda learned by doing and not discussing. I'm more worried about my general business knowledge, then secondly sales. I don't know if I can provide results to someone else's business (especially more traditional ones) so how can I ask someone for $500 for example. I guess the idea is that I sell 10 $500 services, and even if they fail, I have my $5k and can get back to doing what I want to

It's so weird. That was the first thing I thought of when I saw this thread, but wasn't bold enough to mention it.

Be bold! :p When I came to FLF I was like 'guess I'm just gunna boldly be myself and be honest so at least these people who know their shit can actually help me'. I am certain I can get FB/Google cranking out cash for a few years, I'm excited to get things rolling, even if I do manage to get into selling it'll only be until I have enough money to do what I want/was doing before as I see the power + potential.

If you can grow a fashion, beauty, travel, decor page to over 1,000,000 followers I am definitely interested in a further conversation on using your services.
I've never worked on anything like that, mine have been publishing/entertainment/media but I could adapt. Maybe I can do some stuff for you just for the experience. I am anxious to say I can work for someone else and achieve their goals when I've literally only ever done this for myself!

I'm 90% certain you're sitting on millions of dollars worth of talent

I feel like you're right, although the percentage is a little low! :p I am not really worried about the future long term as I know I'm good at what I do and that I'm good with money, it's just so stressful right now starting from (almost) zero again

Don't doubt yourself! Organic marketing is such a useful skill to have in today's advertising world.

I am currently starting a youtube channel, and my question to you is: how long does it take to get to 100,000 subscribers from your experience?

To be honest I don't have a lot of experience with YouTube.

I have worked with video on Facebook and I'd actually recommend creating a Facebook page additionally anyway. If you get to 100k subscribers on YT and even just 50k likes on Facebook you could still make $200-400+ (that's 100k+ views) when a video goes viral there. Which happens organically easier than paid I found, as long as you're tailoring your content to what the audience is engaging with most.

Wish I could help you out with YouTube more, best of luck!

Sure, ask anything! I've had most experience and success with Facebook ad network alongside websites/blogs/videos. Sponsorships are good, too. I've also made money from dropshipping although that was years ago before the boom

Sounds like you're just over-whelmed and stuck in your head. Relax, take a breath and just go for a walk. You can only do so much yourself before you need help. Either by hiring employees, paying for commissioned gigs, or partnering up. Sounds like you got plenty on your hands with what you do for now.

How are you planning to do the merch, how or who will take care of the back-end part?

@elusive97 Am confused ..... you can get a page making $25k / mo, yet you do not have $4k to start your own page?

what is the outcome you are trying to achieve?

Right now all I do is maintain my audience. It's not much work. I can't afford to expand on my current project without money, which is why I wanna get some money in. So although I'm constantly busy, I'm making next to nothing, literally struggling to pay bills. Only my side hustle is making money and it only really works as a little extra money on top of a main income.

I bought a house and spent a lot of money to get it half-renovated, then lost my business. I got to $12k/mo, but I could easily get to $25k/mo with my new one. I just need to make some cash to get the initial investment (most of which goes to hiring), which is what I'm trying to do now.

I've done it before, starting with just $10k, and I know that even with just $5k (my goal) I can start the process again and get back to making really good money

I'm only 22 and I made some mistakes in the past that lead to my current poor financial circumstances (plus some bad luck), hence why I'm not loaded despite owning a home and creating a 6 figure business by 21. This has been a tough year and I almost didn't make it here but I'm looking forward to a prosperous 2020 :)

Good that you have progress! A lot of things may change as you move on with your plan. I am always very careful with goals like "X amount of $ by date", as they can kill creativity and add additional stress. But on the other hand it is important to have discipline and work on a project everyday in a long run.

I've never worked on anything like that, mine have been publishing/entertainment/media but I could adapt. Maybe I can do some stuff for you just for the experience. I am anxious to say I can work for someone else and achieve their goals when I've literally only ever done this for myself!

I am going to send you a PM. Look forward to chatting with you!
