Hello Fastlaners!

This is one of my first posts at this forum, however it's been few years since I've encountered The Fastlane concept and MJ DeMarco's writings.

I've managed to have a tentative deal with one travel agency owner in central European country. I've started company's instagram profile and grown it from 0 to 1000 followers in 1 month. I know the numbers might not be super impressive, but it's not the point.

For now I am able to sustain followers growth, content creation and automation tools setup. It's not that hard to attract people, because content is quite interesting and I think I manage the profile in a nice way for a beginner. Problem is, this guy wants results. What I mean by that is he wants to see website visits statistics going up, and he wants to see that visitors are coming from Instagram.

When I'm fully able to attract followers and fans, I don't know how to make them potential clients. Here's the whole trick. My followers are growing in such a pace mainly because (in my opinion), I am not trying to sell them anything (yet). I am just bringing them value with quality content and entertainment. There is of course company's website in profile's description but nobody seems interested...

My question to you, my surely more experienced fellows, is - how to negotiate the deal with him in such a way that I will not have to force people to bump his analytics statistics OR how do I make people clink in the links, so he's happy with results of the whole project?

P.S. Thank you upfront for you response and for creating such a great community!

He wants to talk ROI and more tangible numbers. Is there a way that you can show him, in detail, how your plans will translate to those in the long-run?

How did you attract 1000 people in a month?

Are they real people or just accounts your got from putting hashtags?

In my opinion, getting people to follow you because of hashtags is worthless in 90% of the time.

I'm saying this, because I see A LOT of accounts with 150k - 1M followers and they get around 1k-10k likes... big part of them are just spam and other people trying to grow their account. They should get way better results even without putting 30 hashtags.

I do logo design and branding, I had multiple situations where I was promoted on huge accounts and I wouldn't get 1 visit to my website.

Where is the problem?

That's the thing, I am pretty confident that I will be able to sustain current growth status, but I cannot guarantee quality of such growth. It's coming 60% from hashtags 40% from likegroups. I know it's pointless to build your audiance from fake accounts and followgroups, however I wanted to create some wow-effect at the beginning to have first 1000, 2000 follows in order to make profile more legit and proffessional.

My first idea was to get some numbers right and then focus on attracting the right people and conversion. That is why those people are not so highly interested in the profile itself.

I would have some ideas if the company would offer physical products to sell, but they are travel company and they sell trips, events etc. That is why I don't know if I'll be able to sustain full-time contract with them. It is due to this: I don't know how to specify terms of our cooperation so that they're on WIN-WIN basis, however at the same time realistic to deliver. It's my first gig so I don't have any record based on which I could estimate the results.

I jumped for this regardless my lack of experience. I want to do my best however I am not connecting some dots right at this moment, any advice would be highly appreciated!

If you have no idea on how to show ROI through social media marketing, I don't know what to tell you.

Growing follower numbers means nothing to clients, they only care about CONVERSIONS.

There is so much that goes into SMM that it would be an injustice to explain it in a post. I recommend learning before taking on clients. It's not just about growing instagram follower numbers.

Can you give some examples or links on how/where to learn that? I'm asking because I would like to grow my Blooform branding service more on Instagram (It's time haha).

Honestly no. Social media is not my area of expertise and I do not know any content pieces off the top of my head.

Just Google it. Whatever question you have, it will simply be answered through Googling. After awhile you will have a solid foundation and you can dig even deeper by Googling questions. By then you should have some go-to websites where you can refer to for more information on SMM.

Go deep into Instagram as a consumer yourself?

Follow big names (known to be good at their IG game). See how they entice you to visit their website and take other action.

I only “did” Instagram for 30 days, and immersed myself by following big names (Gary V for instance). I allowed myself to “become a consumer” so I could observe what producers were doing and the effect it had on me.

(I can’t stand the platform btw. I couldn’t wait to stop being a consumer on it, which means it’s a channel I’m going to leave well alone.)

Make sure to follow the big guys in your client’s space in particular.

That’s going to be your best education I think. Observe what the big guys are doing (while probably ignoring what their saying).

The issue is on the client's end as he doesn't understand how social media is going to work. If he wants direct results instead of the intangible payoffs that you get overtime with Social Media - then he needs to be spending ad dollars in my opinion.

When you do a "done for you" business - it's important to make sure that your clients understand what results you are getting for them. If they think it's going to skyrocket their sales by having some followers on IG then they will be disappointed.

You've to set expectations with him. Tell him that IG is for building brand awareness.
If he wants traffic and conversions, maybe it's better to use SEO or Google Ads, or just run FB ads.

IMO, on IG, Post -> View profile conversion ratio is very low.
View profile -> Visit website rate is even lower.

Based on my stats and others, you can get a 5-digit or even 7-digit Reach and the no. of people who Follow can just be only anywhere from 5 - 64, and to get those to visit your profile is even lower. Maybe 1 - 3 will click the link?

Not sure what kind of content you're posting on IG, but since he runs a travel agency in Central Europe, perhaps repost viral images of travel destinations there?
Then, post viral travel/destination videos on IG stories several times a day to further drive traffic.

By viral travel images, I mean those photos/vids that have already been proven to go viral on other IG travel repost accounts.
