@sparechange, never flew private/business, but I know a bit about this as I researched it some time ago.

Firstly, there's a big difference between private and business. Business class is still dealing with the same BS as everybody else. The only difference is that you get priority when boarding and if it's a good airline and a longer flight, you get a lie-flat seat (and obviously some additional perks like a better meal, toiletries and stuff, but IMO that's not really that important). Other than that, you still have to go through security and still need to be at the airport about 2 hours before your flight.

I personally wouldn't spend money on business class unless it's lie-flat and a long-haul flight (particularly if you want to sleep during the flight). I recently had a 14-hour flight in economy; I bought a seat with extra leg room but it didn't really make the experience that much better (it sucked a lot). Before that flight, I had a 13-hour flight, also in economy, and there were many unoccupied seats so I had the entire row of four seats to myself and could sleep most of the flight. Huge, huge difference in terms of comfort.

Next time for any flight longer than 8-10 hours I'd probably fly business (as long as it's reasonably priced) just to be able to sleep comfortably. As for shorter flights, not sure it's worth the price.

As for private, this is completely different. You don't fly from the same airport than regular commercial flight passengers. You don't deal with airport security, which means you don't need to deal with all the BS regulations regarding toiletries, liquids, etc. Your jet won't leave without you, meaning you don't have to worry even if you're a few minutes late. If you fly frequently, you can save A LOT of time as you can essentially be at the airport just a few minutes before take-off vs at least two or so hours when flying commercial.

For me personally, the only extravagant thing I'd definitely spend money on if I were a billionaire would be flying private. The freedom of being able to travel whenever and wherever you want and not have to deal with the nightmares of airport security would be incredible.

Thanks for the reply, yeh its a silly thing dealing with airport security.. was thinking about how lovely it would be to just drive up chauffeured in a limo straight to a jet.... would definitely spend alot of money there!

I share a lot of the experiences mentioned in some of the previous posts, among those are the fact that Americans (at least in NYC) are very kind and friendly.

Echo this sentiment wholeheartedly, living a lot of my life in Canada have heard how much nicer Canadian's supposedly are. Yet my experience traveling in the USA is that Americans are markedly more friendly and social. The biggest difference I noticed is people working in retail.

As the ages get older, so do the coaching stakes.

High School coaching is where the insanity begins.

The insanity here for hockey begins before 9yrs old :|

Would treat the basketball thing as life lesson. Only get so many moments either able to take advantage of it, or have to use it to learn for next time. Look at Tom Brady, am sure he had lots of moments to learn from that enabled him to make the most of his chance when Bledsoe got injured.

Anyone ever fly private or business class?

How much better is it than economy? Do you still get your personal bags checked or deal with wait times?

Business class costs about 3-5x more and I say it’s about 10x better if you are flying internationally and 2x better if it’s domestic.

The main perks are:
Fast check in *
Access to lounge *
First to board
First luggage at baggage claim
Great food
Close bathroom
And most of all comfy large seats *

The asterisks are the most important!

I’ve flown private twice when the company I worked for had a jet. It only sat 8. What’s nice is that my flight was 9am and I’d show up at 8:55 park and walk straight to the plane. There’s no security check or lines. Flying to work 300 miles away was actually faster than driving to my office in downtown Chicago.

Looking at lines gives me a mini heart attack, I've waited in line for hours on end before...its pretty brutal, must be nice to just skip through all the BS. Life goals...

Merry Xmas!

He just got detained, but that doesn't make a good video title lol.

Are randomness and causation incompatible?

Statistics implies randomness exists.

But causation requires that same cause to determine this or that effect meaning there is no randomness.

Is it because we humans are not good at identifying causes so we then label them as random? Are we intellectually arrogant so when we don't know the cause of something we resort to saying "Oh well it's random"?

Randomness and causation are quite compatible.

First of all, you nail it on the head. We often lack enough information to describe something well enough to make good predictions, and outcomes thus appear random.

Very well, in that case things only appear random, and we know causality is safe.

But there are certainly processes in this world that are truly random. Is causation still maintained there?

What about nuclear decay? Here certain types of atoms spontaneously emit an alpha particle. This decay is truly random. There is no pattern to radioactive decay; there is no way to calculate when the next one will happen, even in principle.

There is, however, a known cause. The alpha particle has uncertain energy, and eventually it will have enough energy to tunnel out of the atom and escape.

Here we have a known cause, a definite effect, but a purely random occurrence.

Also the food - I would have no idea how to eat healthy in NY. I was in Wholefoods a few times, which is supposed to be a healthy store (my impression), but all of the juices, yoghurts etc. are with such a high amount of sugar, I was quite surprised I couldn't find 1 f*cking yoghurt among 20+ with no or a low amount of sugar. The hell!?

Thats a nice pain point you got there... It sure would be a shame if someone.... capitalized on it....

Birdbox on Netflix.

Can I get my 2 hours back?

It infuriates me that people write this shit and someone in Hollywood with supposedly a lot of talent, money, and authority says, "OMG, this is good shit, we should allocated $20 million to it and create a movie!"

I don't have a garage!

Darn it, oh well, guess there's always a job!

Now we have co-working spaces.

I was surprised to find one of my meetup.com meetings at one. Had all the trimmings, like a small coffee bar, projectors, well-lit seating areas. I thought the concept hadn't formally solidified in my country yet.

Unfortunately, I don't think the youngsters know that a co-working space is a place to WORK. I passed by a few laptops on the way for a toiler break, and they had Youtube and games on. :inpain::inpain::inpain:

Now you know how I feel when I watch Dreamworks' Prince of Egypt, and they turn into a joke with Boss Baby and Shrek.:bored:

Prince of Egypt was simply majestic. Even when I watch reruns online, non-Christians were praising it for the art, emotional pulls and music.

Random Thoughts on Regret and Why You Should Start NOW and Stop Making Excuses!
If there is one thing more painful than failure (and aside from death), I believe it's regret.

The regret of lazing around and being complacent in your life.

The regret of quitting too early/not following through your plan.

The regret of not starting a business even if you had an idea in your head.

The regret of letting the SCRIPTED mediocrity eat your soul away.

I think the source of all regret is wasted time, for time is unforgiving; it doesn't come back once its gone. And all you'll tell to yourself is: "I wish I done this sooner!"

Good news! You can always change your life by changing your lifestyle. By this time, you should have learned well. You should have learned that:
  • you should stop making excuses, and
  • start taking action NOW.
If you have something in mind, do it. If you can't do it right away, take little steps: read a book/blog related to it, learn the necessary skill, save (if it requires upfront capital), whatever you know you need to do.

And don't be fooled by these two lies:

"I'll just do it next time. I'll have time for it soon."

The next thing you know, you'll regret doing it later than sooner. Or, would you even do it, or it's always a next time?

"I don't have time."

You will not have time if you don't give it time. If you don't give it time, you won't have time. Why? Because the SCRIPTED system will do its best to take away tons of your time so you'll work for it in servitude. Under the trap of consumerism, you are made to work (taking your time and energy). After the paycheck, you get to consume (and the vicious cycle begins spinning... and spinning and spinning... until all you have left are a few years).

Your best bet is to get out of the consumerism trap, live simple (so you'll have time for truly important things... Hey, you have time now, hurray!) and that's how you change your life.

Whatever it is you want to do, whatever it is you need to do to better your life, be it building a business, getting fit, or something else...

Give it time.
Stop making excuses.
Do it NOW.

May I add another one: And give your 100%. Don't half-a$$ it!

I looked through the whole yogurt section of my local Kroger (it's huge). I found only two, hidden in the top left corner... see if you can find them locally:

YQ by Yoplait
Siggi's.

What's funny is that I guess no one's been buying the Siggi's, because they were all marked 75% off, and I scooped up what was left for my kids to snack on. 9g of sugar... significantly less then the next lowest brand. Texture was awesome, kids loved it. Was remarkably un-sweet, compared to the sugary yogurt I grew up eating. But still good.

I want more juicy details on this forum when ppl randomly share info about how everything went “horribly totally wrong” and how they’ll “never do that business again”

Ffs. What type of business was it?!? I’m over here banging my head against a wall to learn the crap I need to learn and rearrange my whole damn life the LEAST these ppl could do is give me some freaking drama when they fail. Sheesh.

Yes. This has everything to do with the moon and the fact that I’m single. Go suck on a rock.

Fewer Than Half of Young Americans View Capitalism Positively

Americans aged 18 to 29 are as positive about socialism (51%) as they are about capitalism (45%). This represents a 12-point decline in young adults' positive views of capitalism in just the past two years and a marked shift since 2010, when 68% viewed it positively. Meanwhile, young people's views of socialism have fluctuated somewhat from year to year, but the 51% with a positive view today is the same as in 2010.

Older Americans have been consistently more positive about capitalism than socialism. For those 50 and older, twice as many currently have a positive view of capitalism as of socialism.

source: Democrats More Positive About Socialism Than Capitalism

This is terrifying.

I'll note these brands for when I'm going to the US next time..

I'm still baffled about this "yoghurt division", haha.

Was excited when I heard about a new Supra but I have to admit, this is disappointing.

Looks like an Alfa Romeo.

New Toyota GR Supra | Toyota.com

Kinda reminds me on the "new Viper reveal" some years ago which I also was stoked about being a big Viper guy, that also, IMO, was pretty meh. And the sales subsequently proved it.

Not surprising. Our education system is an indoctrination camp as is our media. You have to think critically to step outside that box. Most young people don't -- they believe whatever their smartphone says, namely, Bernie is cool, Trump is a Russian operative, Capitalism and business is evil, and of course, if you're earning an income better than poverty, well, you aren't paying "your fair share."

It's disgusting.
