I was trying to identify the focus of major social websites. When looking for needs, it might be helpful to review what is already being done. Feel free to add others.

sharing websites:
flickr = share photos
twitter = share thoughts
Facebook = share memories
yelp = share reviews
eBay = share used merchandise
napster = share mp3s
linkedin = share business contacts

service websites:
google = provide web search
craigslist = provide classifieds
hotmail = provide email
limo.com = help find limo
uber = share cars
monster.com = share jobs

To waste even more time on this nonsense, you could also try to organize the list alphabetically

Also, the things you listed aren't USP's. There's ton of social media sites, search engines and sharing sites. What makes the sites you listed differentiate from their competitors in the same field?

You remind me of a guy who used to mug me in elementary school. He would threaten me every day and demand my lunch money. I finally had to explain to him, that if he wanted to steal my lunch money, he had to do it before lunch. So to you, I say, if you are going to ask me a question, don't insult me first.

Waisech didn't exactly state his case diplomatically, but what said is pretty much true.

I don't see how this list is useful. Going for the 'huge win' - creating another Facebook, for example, is a fools errand for the vast majority of entrepreneurs. Its great for VC's because they know that 1 in 100 in their portfolio will be a huge success. Not so great for the 99 that flopped.

Me? I'd rather go for the 50% chance of making a few million in a few years. (and I'd bet that all of the people in here have the same mindset)

And for that kind of thing, this list isn't helpful.

If the goal is not to be first, but to compete on either price, convenience, or quality - then knowing what the successful sites are doing is paramount. The companies I listed are the dominant companies. If you can take 1% of the business from a dominant $1B company, you have a $10M business. This thread was supposed to be about surveying the landscape of opportunities, but was immediately crapped on by Waisech.

There is a limit to the amount of negative energy I allow other people to project in to my life, and you exceeded yours in your first post. I was also genuinely surprised and saddened to see other forum members encourage you. Clearly I am in the wrong place, so, good-bye.

You're leaving the forum? That would be a shame. Let it roll off of you. Negative feedback usually belongs to the person who creates it. That's my golden rule. It's a world filled with many people who feel the need to sabotage others thinking and success. Even if they don't agree, don't give them your personal power away to shine. When you can shine at your brightest negative feedback can no longer be an option to stop you from achieving your goals.

You being in the forum has nothing to do with Weischer, It's all about you becoming a success. He's just practice. lol Just like Negative reviewers and Negative authors that will try to knock us down, they only win if you let them. That's the whole key, their plan I always think to myself. If they can knock one more author or entrepreneur out of the race, you're out of the way for their success.

So please outshine Weischer. Perhaps one day you'll be richer than him an outshine him. lol

Why do people need to announce their departure?

Need to get thicker skin.. the response wasn't even that rude.

I had some spandex-clad cyclist douchebag yell at me at the top of his lungs the other day as I was entering my building. So what? I ignored him. He doesn't matter. And the people that you deem to be negative shouldn't matter to you.

Although there was definite truth to what @Waisech said, so to discount it just because he offended you would be unwise.

You're probably not going to hear what I'm saying, but I'm going to try anyway.

1) You need humility. - you posted your thoughts on a topic without the experience to back it up, and people with more experience told you that your ideas were not going to lead you anywhere good. Instead of asking 'why,' you got defensive. I'm hoping that your reason for being on this site is to learn. Getting defensive will short-circuit your learning ability.

Contrast that with a thread I created in the INSIDERS forum. I posted my Google adwords ads and landing pages. I was humble about it, and ended up getting really good feedback. It stung a bit (they basically said that what I wrote was garbage), but because of how I approached it, all the feedback was constructive and encouraging.

2) Please don't leave. If you learn from this, we will all respect you for it. Seriously. (Every single one of us has been there. For some, it took a long time to grow from where you're at. Others, because they were humble, grew much faster...for me, it took me a while.)

Came from the culture where people easily get offended.

As per Waisech post, I don't find it offensive or offending he might was just trying to challenge you intellectually or definitely was just right.

Neither the less I was laughing reading the post, it ends like kid figthing each other when someone poke him at the back

I was excited until I saw that there was no 'C' in that Weisher... would have been amazing if there's like 50 different famous people named Weischer lol

After a year on Fastlane, Grumpy Cat has become predictable.

Predictability
noun
1.
consistent repetition of a state, course of action, behavior, or the like,making it possible to know in advance what to expect:
The predictability of their daily lives was both comforting and boring.

I don't follow. Care to elaborate?

Picking out errors? I believe we all do this.

The exact prevalence and incidence are not know. However, normal personality appears to be frighteningly common, and it incidence may be increasing.

Prognosis
Normal personality is most often a lifelong condition. Rarely is there any significant improvement of symptoms. It has been suggested that the presence of Neurotypicallity makes the prognosis worse, though this has not been substantiated. Despite the severe social dependencies and possible cognitive impairments associated with Normal Personality, such people are often relatively high functioning. Many of them even become successful professionals, with politicians being an especially common in this pop ulation. However, the egocentrism, poor insight, and narrow standards of acceptability may make the person with Normal Personality dangerous to other in the community, being particularly threatening to those who are not themselves Normal.

Sadly, I don't have the normal personality. I got something way worse. :rockon:

Meow! You post the stupidest thread in the history of the forum, then ragequit when you aren't hailed as the new Paul Graham. There is a name for this, but it is forbidden by the Bar Stool rule.

I don't think it was that stupid. It just BECAME very stupid with the replies. It's just, people don't give a F*ck about adding stuff to some list. People around here wants their: "I Made $14,547 in 3 Months Time Doing XX"

Seriously? "Instead of doing meaningful work, let's waste time compiling a list we could find on the web in the infinitesimal chance that we ever need a useless list". Tell me one thing this list would have been useful, like, in the life of the whole Universe.
But sure, people want actual facts about things that have actually worked. Weird, stupid, bad people.
