Some food for thought today.

Gosh I read a lot of posts about what people don't want, or distractions people have, or "reasons" why someone can't get to where they want to get to.

For example, the plethora of anti-social media posts. "I can't spend time on my business because I'm addicted to the YouTube". Or porn. Or Reddit, etc.

So over in this thread

(By the way, lots of good tips to minimize social use on that thread)

@BigRomeDawg made this comment...

Just start a YouTube agency. Then it's R&D.

I don't know if this was a joke or serious. But I think it's brilliant. This comment represents the kind of thinking that is rare for an entrepreneur to achieve.

Because this comment shows how to take a perceived weakness and turn it into a strength.

Who's going to be better at YouTube than someone who is addicted to youtube? Who's going to be more motivated?

I know, I know, I'm not suggesting all YouTube addicts need to go out and start YouTube channels.

My point is this...

We spend an inordinate amount of time talking on this forum about how to become somebody we currently are not. We call that growth, and it often is a very good thing.

But sometimes it makes sense to lean into your basic nature.

I'll highlight @Johnny boy as one such poster. He has made comments before about how he doesn't really want to work. I'm not sure if he called himself lazy, or if that's my interpretation of something he has said in the past.

But this desire not to do the work is so strong, that he will work 16 hours a day for weeks on end to produce some thing, some improvement...

That it's going to save him from having to work 16 hours a day for the rest of his life.

"Laziness" is a commonly seen as a negative quality. But JB will own it and use it.

BRD's comment above highlights it too.

So dear reader, when you take stock of yourself and find "weakness" ask yourself if this truly something you need to exorcise from yourself, or if it is something you can exercise to grow your empire.

So my question for you today is simple. Can you turn a perceived weakness into strength?

Hey @Johnny boy if I misrepresented you, feel free to correct me and I'll make the proper edits.

One of my weaknesses is that I am scared of spending money.

I now see it as a strength because it means spending money doesn't give me a hit of dopamine. I get that dopamine from earning and saving money.

Every weakness is a strength in disguise.

Every strength is a weakness in disguise.

I like observing what I do best and gravitate towards, and see if I can lean into it.

Oh, and that's why I keep suggesting doing short videos as a service to lots of young folks. They already consume them and know more about them than us old folks.

"Dead-a$$" as the kids would say.

To your main point, gaming is a great example. I know avid gamers who hate their jobs. To me, the formula is obvious. Take the thing you have 10,000 hours in and monetize it:

- stream on Twitch
- have a personality (or boobs)
- post Twitch highlights to YouTube
- add some YouTube specific content (tutorials, reviews, whatever)
- ???
- profit

But instead they feel guilt for gaming because they "should be doing something productive"

So they lock their PC in the closet and read endless business books to try and start a business from scratch in a niche they just found out about.

Now that's a brain twister.

Exactly!

"Grow what you know."

We've already got skills, experience, tendencies. There's so many ways to help, entertain, or provide value that there's likely a way to earn with what we already have, know, and like doing.

No, it doesn't mean "follow your passion" blindly. You've still got to figure out how to earn money if it's to be more than a hobby.

This is ultimately why you will see me parrot the phrase "everything in life is a gray area" 24/7 here. Obviously people should work on negative habits - especially those that are causing them to be unhappy with their lives - but to completely dismiss it all is foolish. Perspective and attitude are everything. So, how do you take advantage of it? Simple.

Identity Statement: "QQ, I watch porn 1 time/day, so I obviously have a massive problem, and I'll never be able to do anything productive because of the fact I consistently look at titties once per day."

General Forum Response: "Aww man, that sucks, you're weak and have no discipline. You claim you want X, Y, Z, but you spend 5min/day jerking off, so clearly you're an unmotivated loser that will never amount to shit."

My Response: "Aww man, that sucks. Do you feel it's negatively impacting your life? Yes? Seek help. No? Clearly you're lying or you wouldn't have started with "QQ." Either way, get help because you have a journey ahead of yourself. Oh, you're also on this forum and want to figure out how to help people and make money from this experience? Cool. Easy.

Ebook: "How to stop consistently cranking your meat rod for 5min/day, so you can finally reclaim your life and have the existence you deserve!"

Ebook: "How to CUMbat porn addiction!"

Podcast: "From strokes to smiles: escaping porn addiction"

Fancy a blog? Cool.

Blog: "Wipe off your screen: we're here to better ourselves."
Blog: "Just because our keyboards are crusty, doesn't mean we have to be."

There's a billion ways to make money off of the suffering and problems of others. Now learn how to monetize your own suffering and problems while simultaneously improving your life.

Did @BizyDad just tell all people who watch too much porn to just start making porn instead?:clench:

Or does this only apply to YT and gaming?

Jokes aside, it’s an excellent point. Opportunity is around all of us all the time 24/7. Some see it, others don’t.

Here are a few ads that I thought were very clever and came from spotting something almost every amateur would miss:

what I got from this is that

if you tell yourself you need certain skills or money or powerful connections, in order to build something you envision, nothing will do, no amount or kind of resources will help.

Until you start looking around, get creative and do it with what you got.

Btw I’m not saying a billion dollar won’t help in building a business, but it’s the same principle as winning a lottery or hoping that billionaires for some reason will notice you on linkedin and give you a job. Not worth it if you’re not worthy.

I find my biggest problem is my job. I have a lot of pride in the product because I built it from scratch, I should really wake up and see that im just making money for someone else (the company got acquired because of the product i built). I find myself working hard for them and its by choice. Example i worked an extra 15 hours this week to get things done. I only work 3 days a week for them now, but i find myself logging on every day just to make sure everythings okay.

I am also working on a product for myself, but i find myself sitting there with a lack of direction, i think digging into my job is a way of me saying "well i couldnt do it because I was working for my job".

I guess this is my one addiction that i need to wake up from, other than scrolling through cat pics constantly on twitter, but thats slowed down recently because MJ is posting a fair bit on twitter at the minute and it pops up in the middle of my feed and reminds me that i could be doing something better.
