For those of you worrying about not drinking, smoking, hookers, and blow... Don't worry about it. Just make friends while you are here, get outside your comfort zone and open up to people. You'll fit right in.

And for those of you worrying about not enough drinking, smoking, hookers, and blow go talk to lighthouse.

The best time I had in the past (B&P meetup) was when 5 or 6 of us would just sit around in a quiet area and open up and talk. Just to listen and give input among a small group of like-minded individuals allows creative juices to begin flowing and knowledge to be gained.

If one seeks it out, there will be opportunities there.

If one looks for it , there will be possibilities to open up, ask questions, get answers, and get inspired.

It most likely won't be in a loud bar or out on the casino floor, (though there will be plenty of that also) but there will be gathering places that one can gain as much from as when we are all together listening to some awesome speakers and their stories...

Look for it. It will be there.

For starters, Golf.

My course is about 2.5 hours from Scottsdale. @Get Right and I are interested in playing a round.

Who else might be interested?

For anyone interested in checking out VR, I'll bring along my setup so anyone who's curious can give it a try after the conference on Friday.

Thanks, @AllenCrawley! That sounds awesome. Can you recommend a specific trail that would be under ~1500' elevation change and ~8 miles +/-? Out-and-back v. loop doesn't matter.
Download the AllTrails app. Here's a direct link to the Superstitions section: Best Trails in Superstition Wilderness - Arizona | 2763 Photos & 2294 Reviews | AllTrails

Here are a few that come to mind:
Siphon Draw trail. Hike it up to the Basin (the smooth rock area) then turn around. Not sure of the elevation to that point but should be under 1500'.

Near Siphon Draw is Prospectors trail and Jacob's Cross Cut trail. Just a few miles long with only a few hundred foot gain. Incredible views.

Massacre Grounds trail. 5.3 miles out and back. 1089' gain. Possible waterfall at end of trail depending on recent rain.

Hieroglyphic trail. 3 miles out and back. 570' gain. Get to see petroglyphs at the end of the trail.

Wave Cave trail. 3 miles out and bank. 866' gain. Cool cave at end of the trail.

Anyone already at the resort?

I arrived a few days ago on Sunday but I don't smoke cigar and are trying not to drink alcohol. The only thing I can do now is lying low & spying on Phoenix.

This is my very first visit to the US. Don't know if it can be generalized but I've found people are very friendly. Face-to-face customer service is also a lot better than in Australia, even when tipping is not involved (supermarkets, bookstores, fast-food restaurants, bus drivers, & pedestrians). They greet you frequently, with good energy! In Australia clerks often pretend you're invisible. Happy to spend my money here!

@MTF Superstitions is my all time favorite place to hike and explore.

Many trails there and all are fantastic in their own ways. Flat Iron is a difficult and long hike so I wouldn’t suggest that one but here’s drone footage to give you an idea of the beauty of the Superstions Wilderness.

OMG I need to get me one of those. Wonder what the regs are and how easy they are to buy.
You need a license for the 2 seaters. I'm working on getting mine now. Cost for a machine is between 8K for a decent used rig up to 45K for a 100hp, 4 stroke motor. Gotta get the trailer. I have a travel trailer but am going to purchase a toy hauler. It will allow me to easily take my camper and machine to the same place. RV camping and exploring with ease...

Feel like an outsider because I don't smoke lol.

You don't need to smoke to join us in the cigar bar! Bourbon works too! ;)

@Red's husband is offering ATV tours so we can book it for the 15th depending on how many people he can take.

Right now he can only take one at a time (2-seater, Yamaha YXZ1000R) plus you'd have to get yourself up to our home. I'm not sure it's that feasible for a group but if you *really* want to see the desert, DM me & we can probably make it work.

Don't smoke, Don't drink, Rarely gamble, unless I find a old school slot machine with the analog reels. I guess I'm an action faker when it comes to partying, but I do enjoy hanging out and listening to stories.

Would love to check it out! :) Will likely be helping out at an AR startup local to me this summer, so getting some VR hands on would be cool.

Also, to those who have previously attended the summit, do you have any tips for a first time attendee? Not just to this summit/conference, but pretty much new to all conferences?

Thank you!

So this is true for all conferences, but especially here. No matter how great they are, the presentations are just the excuse for everyone getting together. The real impact that people take away is from the discussions you'll have with everyone around you, so if you hide in a corner and avoid interaction (like lots of people at conferences always do), you're literally throwing away 99% of the potential value. "You get out what you put in" is so very true, so if you're a pretty hardcore introvert, the struggle is real, lol.

A question for locals: what's the best least crowded hiking trail around the area?
What difficulty level are you looking for and how much time do you want to spend.

There are soooooo many that this would be difficult to answer. I could probably list over 100 spots. Sedona is stunning with many hiking trails. There are a lot of hikes down in the desert also. Weekday hikes are usually not crowded. I like the Superstitions. They are fairly close by and very nice.

Prescott is a little over an hour away from Scottsdale. I once hiked a circle out in the Bradshaw mountains. Not sure of the mileage but it took around 10 hours. Elevation from 5200' to about 8000'. Mostly pine forest but some "scrub" and spruce. Only saw 2 people the entire time and one was a miner working out of the back of a VW van.

@AllenCrawley is an avid hiker in the area.

You're not attending the summit? :(

Nope, sorry. My flight has been canceled last minute and it made me realize that I didn't really feel like going so instead of rescheduling I decided to get a refund and cancel my trip.

For the sake of my well-being and self-respect I promised myself that I wouldn't force myself to do something just because I already made plans or feel obligated to do something. When I bought the ticket I thought it was the right decision but I've changed my mind (or the flight cancellation made me realize it).

@MTF sorry to hear that, I too enjoyed many of your posts here and looked forward to meeting you.

I arrive the night before. I'll be down for this. Haha yeah, I'm sure we can spot each other somehow.

Unless one of my flights gets cancelled or I get sick all of a sudden, I am definitely coming. Look for a guy with a shaved head around the pool and a huge book in his hands

Anyone want to do something Thursday? Hike camelback? Cigars?

I’ll be around early Thursday evening.

Surely the resort has a place to kick back, drink, and grab a bite to eat.

Wherever this place is, that’s where I’ll be. We’ll grow it into a sizeable hang by evening’s end, I’m sure.
